Stayed here one night feb 3rd, 2007.

Won it for $32, after unsuccessful bids of $25 and $28.

It was a nice stay. Very quiet hotel, pool usually empty, which my sons loved.

Breakfast was ok, not as nice as some other country inns but still nice for a free breakfast.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Very easy to find, and not too far from restaurants, etc.

Room clean and well appointed.

Will definitely stay again.

well, we just stayed here last nite and had a complete opposite experience to the other poster.

the hotel was packed with teenage boys and their families prior to some sport event. the boys were rude and loud. we got the worst room in the place- room 101- on the first floor at the end of the hall near the stairs and the exit door, so all we heard ALL NIGHT was these teenagers and other kids running up and down the halls, and BANGING up and down the stairs- apparently none of them walk up the stairs, they STOMP!!! we got no sleep at all. when I went to take a shower, I had to pull hard to get the shower valve up, and then it wouldn't go back down!

The pool was occupied all day and night by trashy families with small, unsupervised kids in the pool- one family had about 5 kids under the age of 7, and the kids were by themselves running around, and jumping in, the main pool while the parents lounged in the whirlpool- real classy people!

As we were checking out, some stupid kid about 10 yrs old was running in the pool area and fell and hit his head and was taken out by ambulance- we overheard his sister say- "This is the second time he's done this"- so apparently he doesn't learn from his mistakes.

The breakfast room was full of these teenage boys- one group of 3 boys took the two syrup bottles meant for the whole hotel and kept them at their table so I had to go over to them to get syrup for my waffle.

In the hotel guest guide they only list one pizza place, old towne pizza- and it was terrible! Not only was the pizza bad, but when I called I told them we were in a hotel and needed paper plates and plastic utensils, and they said fine, but did not bring them, so my kids had to eat pizza off washcloths.

Horrid stay- never again!

we wanted to go to the cinco de mayo fest in elgin and gave the country inn another shot thru priceline. our stay was once again horrid.

My mother emailed management with our concerns, and their response was "you get what you pay for." I would warn others not to bid 2.5* in elgin. stick with the 3* holiday inn.

here is the response of management:

I am so sorry to hear that your stay with us over 5/4 and 5/5 were less than perfect. After looking at your reservation on our system, I did notice that you made your reservation through a third party website such as Priceline or Hotwire. When you book through these sites, you are guaranteed the rate, not the room type. When we have these reservations, we accommodate your requests for smoking or non, and room type if we can. Unfortunately in your case, we were sold out of nonsmoking rooms, therefore your family was moved to smoking rooms. If you would like to guarantee your room types in the future, I recommend booking at a hotel's website or by using the 800 number regardless of hotel. It may cost a little more, but if you are sensitive to smoke it would be worth it for you.

I understand that the pool was very full over the weekend. We do not host birthday parties at the hotel, we only allow those registered guests to use our facilities. There was a mother who booked two rooms on Friday night who had 6 young girls here for a party, but again, they were guests of our hotel. It is unfortunate that they were not respectful to the other guests who were using the pool. I do not have a security guard who patrols the hotel on the weekends, and maybe that should be something for me to look into in order to keep guests under control. We had a wedding, and two funerals in house the weekend you stayed with us, so there were more children here than usual.

As for your room not being cleaned while you were out on Saturday; the hotel was sold out the night before, and the housekeepers get to each room as quickly as they can. If the housekeeper said that you had a DND sign on your door in the morning when they went to clean your room, and you did not, then I apologize for that.

Sincerely,

Molly Hanson
