bobvila
Hi, thanks for your help on this site.My wife and I are going to NYC for the first time, we got good tickets from Seattle to NYC off priceline for $212 each. We're looking to stay in a nicer, but not too expensive hotel while we're there, and I started playing with some prices.I tried 4 and 3* for MTE, MTS, SoHo, MTW and put in from 89-119$ (before taxes, etc.) and met with no luck.We know that we're not going for a few more months, so we have plenty of time to secure a place to stay (my brother lives in Park Slope/Brooklyn, but would prefer to stay in the city for our first adventure to Gotham). If anyone has any suggestions of when would be a good time to look (i.e., closer to May) or a better understanding of what price to expect, any assistance would be much appreciatedThanks-Matt Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! For "when to bid" see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Your current bids will not likely be enough for the time of year you are visiting... what is your maximum bid? bobvila
I read the FAQ - thank you for pointing it out.As for price, ee are willing to go a bit higher, though, I really don't have an idea of what is on the low end of reasonable at that time of the year (Early May for 5 days). As I was bidding 119, 130 is certainly doable. How much more do you think would be possible (or required) that time of year? Also, this is our first trip to the city, so if you can recommend a certain part of the island to focus on, that would be fantastic. Thanks for your help! thereuare
Your probably looking at closer to $150+ than you are $100 but i would sooner ask for a strategy to follow once you decide upon your zones and maximum bid. Your maximum bid should be determined by 1) how much you'd be spedning if you aren't successful with the opaque suppliers and 2) how much time you have before your stay.I would focus on MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS... then adding MTS if unsuccessful with the previous three zones; SoHo/Downtown only as a last resort.
