  1. Luckily enough, I will be attending a conference on Jan 8-10. The company hosting the conference will be sponsoring the hotel, so I'm sure they've shelled out a pretty penny for the rooms during that time.
  2. My buddies and I are heading out to Vegas on January 4th and staying through January 8th. We started looking through Hotwire at a friend's request. We used the hotel list as a guide to identify which hotel is which. We then looked at their published rates to see what we could find. Ulimately, booking through the hotel directly was our route because it was actually slightly cheaper than all of the travel websites, plus it gives us the option of canceling in case better rates pop up. For Paris we were able to get it for 55 a night and Imperial Palace we have for 27 a night. We thought about bidding on Priceline but didn't want to risk any of the other 3 star hotels as my friends who are staying there love the location of IP. I prefer a higher rated hotel which is why I couldn't pass up Paris at 55 a night even though I was tempted by the Priceline reported winning bid of 57 a night at New York, New York but the MGM resort fees made me lean towards the no resort fee Harrah's property. Thanks again for your site and I'll gladly keep using it in the future and make an update here if we choose to book through Priceline or Hotwire (using the provided links as always!). Dave
  3. Hey everyone, Like most of you I love trying to get a great deal on hotels when I travel. I have used this site a few times for travel and it has helped me quite a bit. Most recently I was able to save a great deal with a booking at the Vdara in Las Vegas. Prior to finding this site, I would often use Travelocity as my main travel website as I liked their layout and felt they gave pretty good prices. With the improvements by Priceline and Hotwire though, I began to start increasing my searches across many different travel sites. A few years ago I was going to Las Vegas and wasn't really finding any hotels to my liking on Priceline or Hotwire. This was before I discovered this site and was still unsure of whether or not to bid and didn't know how to identify potential hotels on Hotwire. What I ended up doing was going on Travelocity's top secret hotel page. I was able to see a 5* hotel's ratings. I figured they would be rounded, but was able to take what I knew from the regular hotel page reviews and compare it to the ratings the Top Secret Page provided. I knew it had to either be Venetian or Palazzo at a much better price that I was finding on Hotwire or Priceline. I ended up taking the chance on it and just like I had thought, it ended up being the Venetian. I'm not sure how hard it would be to add, but I do think that there are some good deals on the Top Secret Hotel's page and with a little work it isn't too hard to figure out which hotel matches up. With some winning purchases, it would make our power from knowledge even greater. Thanks, Dave
  4. It looks like just from general browsing that the average price of the hotel rooms that weekend have started shooting up quite a bit. A couple of weeks ago both PRICELINE and Travelocity had the Trump for about 130 a night. There's a couple of 5 stars on Travelocity's TopSecret hotel list for 155 a night. It's a bit more than you want to spend but it's cheaper than HOTWIRE and you should be able to use the ratings to get a general idea what hotel you'd be buying. I'm guessing that the hotels are getting more traffic which is why the prices are going up. I'll be there that same weekend with a group of 8. My girlfriend and I got the Vdara for 115, my buddy and his wife are staying from the 25th - 29th and got the Vdara for 110 a night. My other friends used the Caesar's friends/family package to get Harrahs for 60 a night. Good luck to ya. Maybe at some point we'll run into each other over the weekend.
  5. I'd love to see a section added for Travelocities top secret hotels. I used it before to get the Venetian when it was cheaper than priceline and hotwire by about 25 bucks a night.
  6. I had posted my winning priceline bid a few days ago, so we should be good.
  7. A bunch of friends and I are planning a trip to Vegas. They're on a tighter budget than my girlfriend and I so we were only going to accept a 4.5 star or higher. After negotiating directly with MGM Signature, Wynn, and Venetian we didn't get a price we liked. I had an offer for the same dates at Paris for 400 total, but felt I could get a 5 star for that Price. Using the HOTWIRE link here I saw Vdara for 129 and wanted to try priceline to beat it. I used the PRICELINE link here. Over 3 days I started at 80 was rejected, 90 was rejected (after adding strip north) Day 2 went back to South Strip only at 100 and was rejected, tried 105 (adding strip north) was rejected again. Today I used the PRICELINE link again, tried 110 and was rejected, then moved it up to 115 (adding strip north) and finally it was accepted. I was hesitant to use priceline over 110 as the Trump was 114 a few weeks ago and I was not interested in that hotel at this time, but I decided to risk it. Luckily I was able to get the hotel I wanted. Now if I can get the 20 dollar trick to work and can avoid the Vdara death ray, I will be in good shape. Thank you for all of the help on the forum. I have used the site in the past (Excalibur 40 a night, Dallas Springhill suites -80 a night) but have never posted. Dave
