  1. I just realized need pay $23/day for parking, can anyone confirm?

The Marriott is a very nice hotel, I think you will like it. I believe you are right that valet parking is $23 Self-parking is about $16, but the parkade is a block or so away so it is rather inconvenient. There is a public parking lot across the street that is cheaper, if you can get a spot. It is pretty busy.

  2. This was an ooopsie. I sent out a "feeler" and landed an unexpected win. First bid, so probably could have got it for less. Oh well. Mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, but it is undergoing renovations, so hopefully they will be done by December. I believe this is a new hotel for the board.

Sorry, but since this was just meant to be a "tester" (I really didn't think I would get a 3* for that low) I did not use the Savings Barn link. I have two more hotels to get for this trip, so I will use it for sure.

    Here are the details:

    Las Palmas Hotel And Suites

    3003 North University Drive

    Sunrise, Florida 33322

    954-748-7000

The hotel website says it is a Holiday Inn.

  3. If you go to South West.com via this link you can book the Orleans for $40 per night for those dates, which is a real bargain over a weekend. It is supposed to be a very nice hotel, and gets great reviews, although I have never stayed there. They have a shuttle to their sister hotel, the Barbary Coast, which is next door to the Flamingo. So, if you don't mind being off-strip, I think this might be the way to go.

With the money you are saving you can buy them a really nice wedding present! :)

  4. This was actually an Oooopsy! I bid $100, got a counter-offer for $133, hit the wrong button and accidentally accepted the offer! :) I am an experienced Price Liner and have never done that before. Oh well, lesson learned to slow down and read the screens. Probably could have gotten it for a few dollars less. The rate for that night is $179, so it was still an OK deal.

This is our anniversary, so it will be nice to stay at the Venetian. I have always wanted to.

I started the bid using the Price Line link on SavingsBarn.com.

  5. I deal with GST quite a bit in my work as a bookkeeper here in Canada, and if the hotels don't charge Priceline GST, that would be a first. The only ones exempt from paying GST are government agencies.

I would bet money that Priceline is charged GST, but claims it back the same way that any American purchasing goods or services in Canada can.

The only way the we Canadians are not paying GST on Priceline rooms is because the government has not yet figured out this loophole.
