  1. Count me in as well for wanting to know a better way to play it. Our dates are: 2 nights 3/21 - 3/23 We originally wanted Dupont Circle, but the Capital Hilton seems to be within walking distance of Dupont Circle. Also mentioning that Hotwire is showing me a $20 one day coupon for today. Not sure if that's for everyone or just for past customers.
  2. We are hoping to stay in a nice resort-type place in Fort Lauderdale prior to our cruise. I have two questions: 1) Is it too early to start looking to book for October 22nd? Will there be better deals later on? I'm guessing that the one that came up is the Westin. Is the Westin one that's really worth jumping on if it's available at a good price? Or are there other Ft. Lauderdale resort type hotels that are even better that might come up later? Or is it better to get it now, as the closer we get to our cruise (considering that the ship we're on carries 4400 passengers, many of whom may also be looking for hotels for the night before!) 2) Identity of Hotel: I clicked on the link through your site to a HOTWIRE search, and got: 4 Star 95% thumbs up of hotwire customer reviews Amenities: - Bed Choice - Resort - Near Beach - Smoke Free - Fitness Center - Pools - Restaurant - Business Center - Laundry - High Speed Internet Thanks! And I will, of course, book whatever I do THROUGH your site links!!
  3. I got impatient and bought the room... It's the Hyatt Regency. Very pleased. It's SO close to Union Station where we're coming in...
  4. For this coming Saturday night (5/21 for 1 night), there is a 4 star in the White House/Cap Hill area that lists: Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, High Speed Internet, for $122 for the night. I, of course, did the link through your site to HOTWIRE!! Any ideas what hotel?
  5. I just won the Scanticon in Valley Forge (3*) for $65.00 for one night. Others were getting it cheaper, but I really needed it to be this hotel, so I added some extra to be sure I got it.
  6. Sorry - forgot to say that. I'm looking for Monday October 13th.
  7. I am looking for something in Orange County for ULTRA cheap for one night. There is a $29 2* on hotwire. But the amenities don't exactly match anything on the pinned list. 2* Anaheim - Disneyland North Amenities: complimentary breakfast, laundry Any ideas? Thanks!
  8. Thanks! I'm afraid I really want to be sure of being easy walking distance because we have a toddler who is going to probably need to be taken in and out of the park throughout the day. So we booked a suite at the Desert Palms, which is right on the corner. BUT, I'm now planning on going down to Orange County the night before so I can get avoid the drive down from Los Angeles that morning. And I won't care where I stay as long as it's CHEAP. I'll report back on what I get through HOTWIRE. And, of course, I'll do it through the links on this amazing site! (Which, by the way, I tell EVERYONE about!!) Thanks!!
  9. Also, there is a 3 star listed for $59, but it ONLY lists high speed internet in amenities. And I can't find a single hotel listed on the site that fits that description. Any ideas?
  10. Hi all! I'm going to Disneyland for my birthday on October 14th. We want to get a hotel that is walking distance from the park so we can stay out and play late into the night at Downtown Disney. There is a 2.5* listed as Disneyland North for $59. Amenities: No Smoking, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, High Speed Internet I'm guessing this is the Red Lion on Katella and Harbor, which is definitely walking distance. Just want to be as sure as possible because some of the hotels in Disneyland North are up by the 5 and DEFINITELY not walking distance. And I've found that the hotel shuttles tend to stop running soon after the park closes. So staying out til 2 a.m. in D.T. Disney means having to get a cab or walk for a half hour or more. Thanks!
  11. We did end up bidding for the 4.5 Star hotel in Seattle for Sunday July 25th. The rate was $208. We were afraid we would lose the possibility of the Monaco if we waited for the price to go down. We bid and we got the Monaco at $208 for a Sunday night. I've been excited about it until I saw the posts that others are getting weekend nights at the Monaco in the $120's!! I just checked again and the rate for the 4.5 Star Boutique hotel is now up to $209 for that night. Hotwire saved me $50 from the Monaco book rate. But I have to admit, I'm really upset that other people are getting the Monaco for like $90 LESS than I got it for!! So if you want the Monaco - I think it's a pretty good bet that the hotwire hotel with those matching amenities will be the Monaco. And it did work for us and we got the hotel we wanted. But beware that others may get better prices than you if they pick better dates. I still can't believe that someone got the Monaco on a Saturday night for $124 and we are there on a Sunday and paying SO much more. Unless the Monaco is more of a business travelers hotel and so they keep their weekend rates lower?? The other thing I want to warn everyone about is that we had two frozen transactions because of the "Verified by Visa" thing. It took about 10 minutes of waiting for that page to come up after we input our credit card info. After 10 minutes we decided the site had frozen on us and we closed it out and started again with a different credit card. That froze for more than 10 minutes again, but this time there was a phone number on the screen that said to call it if we were having trouble getting the transaction through. While we were on the phone with the hotwire rep, he told us that the "Verified by Visa" page jams up on people FAR more than he could even tell me. He told me that would would have to use a THIRD credit card because both of those previous credit cards were not going to be approved since it froze on the "Verified by Visa" page. Just as we were trying to figure out which credit card to use, the verification arrived that we had gotten and been confirmed at the Monaco. That was about 15 minutes AFTER the screen appeared to freeze. In the end, I'm very glad to have saved $50 over the book rate on the hotel that I wanted, but I'm stinging a little bit from paying $208 for a room that other hotwire users are getting for $121 or $124..... That's a hotwire issue, though. Betterbidding.com is incredibly valuable for helping you to know what you're doing and what you're getting. Now if I could just understand why the Sunday night that I'm staying there is $90 more a night than the Sunday night two weeks earlier than someone else is staying there....
  12. As asked, I'm following up on my posts here. Unfortunately, I was too nervous about risking the Hotwire thing for this particular trip as location was hugely important to me as I was attempting to be as close to my friend's hotel as possible. I wish I had some great information to pass on to everyone, but I decided to not risk ending up in Circus Circus or at an off-strip hotel on this trip and so I just paid full price. I will, of course, report any actual bookings I make via hotwire or priceline. Thanks everyone!
  13. I actually didn't follow up on my Las Vegas thread because I got scared about ending up at Circus Circus and so I chose to book directly with the Luxor, which had a good deal on their internet site. For that trip, location was key for me and I didn't want to take a risk. So sadly, I just didn't have anything to add to that post. I'd like to use Hotwire or Priceline - but the Las Vegas trip simply wasn't the right trip to take chances with. I believe the Seattle trip might be the perfect shot at using Hotwire or Priceline. But I'm trying to get some information and feedback, as my ONLY exposure to Seattle in any way shape or form was in seeing the travel channel Great Hotels show do a segment at the Monaco. Thanks!
  14. I've heard SO many great things about the Monaco. Would love to stay on there on July 24th. Any suggestions on how to get it for a good price (I see a lot of $114 ranges mentioned here) would be great. I just did a hotwire search and it only came up with one 4.5 hotel and the rate was $208. That's a little high for us - especially since we're going to arrive mid-later evening and have to catch a train out at 10 a.m. - so it'll be a quick overnight stay with them. Does anyone have any other suggestions for something that has the great charm of the Monaco and elegance and beauty that I've seen in pictures? We have to be at the train by like 9 a.m. - so I'm not sure which area the station is in and if the Monaco's area is the best choice anyway? But I only get one shot at staying a night in Seattle and I'd like to experience it in style if possible and affordable. Thanks
  15. As much as I'd like to try the Venetian someday - I'm honestly hoping for something in the $70 or $80 range. My dream hotel is the Luxor to stay in the Pyramid. But any of the 4 stars would be good, I think. I just know that if i bid too low on Priceline and I'm denied, then I lose my chance for bidding again for tomorrow night. So I'm trying to do it right the first time so I can get it. Not sure what free re-bids means, though.
  16. I am already in Vegas and I want to extend my stay on Sunday night. I'm at the Sahara, but their book rate is a lot higher than some of the other book rates at BETTER hotels for Sunday night. I'm considering throwing the dice with Priceline and trying to get a really GREAT hotel for Sunday night on the strip. Any suggestions? All I really want is the strip and a great room in a great hotel. Hotels.com has Luxor at 92 and Excalibur at 75. Could I do better with Priceline and get something better than Excalibur? Or a better price at Luxor?
  17. I am now starting to get the hang of it and it seems a lot of people are putting their dates in and asking for advice, so I'll do the same, if anyone has any ideas for me. I want to be as close to Caesar's (my friends are staying there) as possible and would LOVE to be ON the strip. It seems as if some people are able to get rooms on the strip for under $100. What would the pro's here do if they were me? I'm young and want a cool type hotel: NY/NY looks like fun, so does Treasure Island or Paris or Venetian. The most important thing to me is a low price and that I can easily get to Caesar's where my friends are staying as we'll be hanging there most of the time. thanks!
  18. For $73/night 5/12-5/15, hotwire is quoting a 3* hotel with the following ammenities: Casino Restaurant(s) Pool(s) Fitness Center Spa Services From the list of hotels I saw on this site, it looks to be possibly Excalibur, although Excalibur also lists golf as an ammenity, which the listing on hotwire does not. Anyone have any idea if I'm right on this? If not, any ideas what hotel it is?
  19. I am traveling to Vegas on May 12th - so I need accomodations from 5/12 - 5/15 (checking out on the 15th). Here's my deal - I am going to hang with friends who are staying at Caesar's Palace. They will be getting me a room key so that I can come and hang out with them at Caesar's whenever I want to - but since it's their anniversary trip, I won't be staying with them and definitely can't afford my own room at Caesars. I want something really inexpensive, but am not interested in staying in a complete dump either. I was hoping I could figure out how to get a deal for a nice room somewhere within walking distance of Caesar's - or at the very least a fairly easy/ inexpensive cab ride from Caesars. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to get one of those great deals for under $100 (or less) per night, but would also be close to Caesars? It doesn't seem to me that Priceline will let me name my own price and also require that I be close to any particular intersection, and I'm afraid to take the chance and find out that I'm all the way down at Circus Circus or further. I've never used hotwire before, so I'm still figuring out how that works. Anyway, ANY help would be appreciated. I'd LOVE to be in one of the nice strip hotels if I could fanagle a deal - but I don't know if that's something that can't be found for under $100. I saw something called Palace Station, but that's a bit too far - and I want to have access to my hotel fairly easily without spending a fortune on taxi's or hours on the bus system that always seems to run poorly. I know from my last visit there that there were a bunch of hotels on the side streets leading away from the strip - it seemed more to the east than to the west, though. So how can I find out which one to go to? And how can I get the best deal possible? Thanks in advance!! GREAT site, by the way!!
