Paniolo Greens Resort isn't near the water; however, as we will be spending most of our time exploring the island, this isn't an issue for us.
Got it for $71 through through Hotwire. Very satisfied with this result!

Tried various low-ball bids, mostly for May 16-19.
First day of bidding:
4* 91
Second day of bidding:
4* 96
3.5* 99
4* (include Volcano) 100
4* (include Hilo) 105
4* (include Volcano, Hilo) 110
3* 90
Third day of bidding:
3* 100
3* 101 (changed date to May 10-13)
3* (include Volcano) 105 (back to May 16-19)
3* 110 (changed date to May 17-19)
Not surprising, no success! Opted for a 3* for $71 on Hotwire instead.
Thank you. Didn't end up bidding for Kona. Opted for a Hotwire deal instead.
Have posted bidding results for Waikoloa-Koala in a separate thread (ultimately opting for Hotwire here as well).
Yesterday bid $80 and $85 (adding Poipu), no success.
Today tried $90 and $91 (adding Poipu), no success.
Opted for a pl Express Deal at $103.
Very happy with the result!
For Kona, dates are May 10th to 13th.
There is a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for $123 (minus 5% is 115), so I am willing to bid up to that amount.
We've used Priceline in the past but not recently. Our memory is a bit fuzzy on how to safely bid multiple times in a day.
We intend on spending 3 nights in Kona, followed by 3 nights in Volcano, followed by 3 nights in Waikoloa-Kohala. The available "Name Your Own Prize" zones are currently as follows:
We will likely book Volcano direct with the hotel. However, we would like to use Priceline for Kona and Waikoloa-Kohala (both 4 star). Can an expert please assist with a bidding strategy?
As well, clarification on the following case would be appreciated: if we bid for a 4 star with Kona, Hilo, and Volcano all selected -- given that Hilo and Volcano do not have a 4 star listed under "Name Your Own Price" are we guaranteed that a win would be in Kona? Thank you for your help!
Researched prices on this site for December 10-11, 2010. Seems like others were having luck with $70 bids, and seeing as this was my first PRICELINE experience I decided to play it safe and try to avoid having to rebid.
Bid on 4* hotels and selected Downtown Toronto South; bid of $70 was accepted at Hyatt Regency.
Looking forward to my stay! Thanks for the great deal!
3.5* Big Island (Kailua - Kona) Holua Resort at the Mauna Loa Village
in Hotwire Hotels - Hawaii
Posted
Was initially targeting the 4* Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay through Priceline bidding; however, upon finding the Holua Resort at the Mauna Loa Village for $78 on Hotwire couldn't resist the lower cost for larger space.
