  1. This was extremely last-minute (helping another friend out)... I tried for 4* downtown beginning at $50 and going up to $70 in $5 increments with rebids. All unsuccessful. I downgraded to 3* and bid $55 with success. Again, this was a day-of bid so I'm sure I could have gotten better with more time... Check-In Date: Friday, September 1, 2006 Check-Out Date: Saturday, September 2, 2006 Hotel Name: Marriott Los Angeles Downtown 333 South Figueroa Street Los Angeles, California 90071 213-617-1133 Your Offer Price: $55.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $55.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $15.35 Total Charges*: $70.35 I used Savingsbarn.com pricline link, of course...
  2. I only briefly read this thread but people rely on the "Name Your Own Price" guarantee and for PL to be able to unilaterally rescind their accepted offers is simply unfair and misleading trade practices.
  3. A friend just called looking for help getting a room in Monterey this weekend. My bidding history was as follows (always using savingsbarn.com : $70 - Monterey - Pacific Grove - 3* rejected added Carmel - $90 - rejected. Closed browser and reopened priceline via savingsbarn.com Selected Monterey - Pacific Grove and Marina - Seaside - 3* - $110. PL counteroffered for $23 more. I declined and added Carmel for $120 - successful. Here's what I got for her via savingsbarn.com ... Check-In Date: Saturday, September 2, 2006 Check-Out Date: Monday, September 4, 2006 Hotel Name: Hyatt Regency Monterey 1 Old Golf Course Road Monterey, California 93940 Your Offer Price: $120.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $36.95 Total Charges*: $276.95
  4. I'm sticking to the Alladin for now until i find something decent sub-$100. Go Vegoose!
  5. 3* Best Value Amenities: Casino Restaurant(s) Laundry Facilities 4* Amenities: Resort Casino Restaurant(s) Business Center My guess it that the 4* is the Nugget...
  6. It's back up now. I swear there was no downtown earlier. by the way, there's a 4 * listed downtown for $142, which should be the nugget. I think the 3* "best value" may be the 4 Queens. Any way to verify????
  7. I'd rather stay at the Alladin for $160 over the Nugget for $138, however, a lot of PL bids seemed to be in the $80 -$100 range for the Nugget and I was hoping to book sub-$100. Bummer :) If I could get the Nugget for under $90 I would take it instantly. ps. My eyes may be deceiving me but it appears that there is no longer a "downtown" zone on hotwire for Vegas. Has Fremont St. backed out of the opaque services?????
  8. I finally talked my friend into staying downtown and today I went to priceline to get the Golden Nugget and there is no 4* listed on Priceline for Fremont St./Downtown. What gives? do you think it's been downgraded?
  9. Thanks for the tip. I just booked the Alladin as a backup and I'll keep on the hunt for the next couple of months...
  10. I'm looking for the best hotel I can find for under $170 a night in vegas for 10/27-10/30. I just bid on priceline via savingsbarn.com link. I bid in $10 increments from $129 - 159. All rejected. The Venetian shows rooms for $329 a night for these dates so I think I will likely have to go higher. My max is $170 a night (before taxes). I noticed the Alladin is available on EasyClickTravel for I think $160. Is this a decent hotel? I can get the MGM for $229 - 10/27 and then $69 for 10/28-10/29 via my players club card so I would consider splitting my bid. It's in the MGM West Wing, which I hate, so I would prefer to stay somewhere else. Suggestions? thanks.
  11. Hotel was listed as Best Value This Hotel features the following amenities: Airport Shuttle <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Complimentary Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. Laundry Facilities <amenity names only please... not descriptions> ps. I just realized that I overlooked the fact that the Wingate is a 2.5* on PL. I probably could have gotten this hotel for cheaper. :)
  12. I began by attempting to get a 3* room with Priceline at the Orlando International Airport for 08/22/06 - 08/23/06. My unsuccessful bidding history on Priceline is as follows: $28 $30 $34 $38 $40 $42 $44 $46 $47 $48 $49 $50 I knew that I could get a 3* Hotwire (Wingate) for $50 so I stopped there. By the way, the Wingate in is listed as a Best Value on Hotwire. Here's what I settled on: Wingate Inn Orlando International Airport (Midscale) 5750 Hazeltine National Dr. Orlando, Florida 32822 (407) 826-5258 Check-in: Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 4:00 PM Check-out: Wed, Aug 23, 2006 at 11:00 AM 1 room(s) @ $50.00 per night x 1 nights $50.00 Taxes and Fees: $12.17 Hotel Subtotal: $62.17 Note: I made sure to use the Priceline and HOTWIRE links at SAVINGSBARN.COM for all Bids. Ps. I wasn't sure whether this post should go in the Hotwire or Priceline section. It's always confusing with these crossover bids :)
  13. New York New York also has some decent rates for most of your dates ($89-79). I'm not sure if it's super exciting for kids, it's got a roller coaster. Mandalay is the very last stop on the strip but I think the monorail runs there. It also has a great pool/beach and a shark reef with real sharks swimming around. Also the promotional rates at The Mirage appear to be close to your max too, however, as thereuare mentioned apparently it's customary in Vegas to tack on some additional fees for more then two people (" Triple and quad rates are available upon requestat $30 for each additional person (four maximum)"). Finally, here's what appears to be an even cheaper Paris deal. NOte also, there's $59 Bally's and $69 Harrah's for some of your dates on this link too. Be warned, these deals appear to be based on double occupancy so you better sneak them kiddies in.
  14. I've never really had a problem with 4 in a room on priceline. The only real exceptions I've heard of are boutique hotels in places like NYC and San Fran. Usually, you can call after getting the room and request 2 queen or double beds. That said there is no guarantee so if you must be 100% sure then you should book elsewhere. If you're willing to split your stay, you can get the Mandalay Bay's Summer Bliss deal for $119 a night (2 queen beds) on some of your nights: 09/03 - $189.95 09/04 - $119.95 09/05 - $119.95 09/06 - $189.95 The following link was sent to me today by Mandalay Bay: Mandalay Bay (if this link doesn't work for you, call them) I also think you have a legit shot at the Venetian via priceline for around $150, as it appears to list for $193 on Hotwire. If I were you, I would go for the Venetian via priceline and bid up as high as you are willing to go (don't forget about tax!). There are many, many free rebids so you could bid in $2 increments. For an explanation of free rebids, consult the General Priceline Tips Priceline Tips Re-Bidding section. You may want to look at one of my recent bid histories for a good example on how to get many bids when you have multiple free rebid zones. Don't forget to close and reopen your browser between bids when adding a new zone. See: Bidding Tips Good Luck.
  15. Actually, Fremont St. Vicinity is a separate zone. You're probably not looking in the "name your own price" section of priceline. The priceline zones for vegas are as follows: Boulder Strip Convention Center Fremont St. Vicinity Henderson - Lake Las Vegas Las Vegas Airport (LAS) Las Vegas Strip Vicinity Nellis - Las Vegas Speedway Summerlin - NW Las Vegas West of Strip Area Details The Nugget appears to list at $124 for your dates on Hotwire. I would guess that you could hit a successful PL bid somewhere between $70-90 but don't quote me. There are 2 true rebid zones so you get 4 free rebids. I'm just a user of this board and certainly have no expertise, but if I were you I would start at $60 and go with $10 increments up to $90. By the way, PL is not always the best for booking in Vegas. I have found some very helpful information on other sites under "vegas promotional codes."
  16. Thank you both for the help! I decided to settle out of area. Here's what I got. I'm sorry!!!!!! I made sure to use it last night, but I guess I got so caught up with this frustrating bidding on this area (40 bids in total) that I spaced tonight. I'll try to be more careful next time.
  17. Any ideas what this hotel is? 3-star hotel in Wethersfield - Rocky Hill - Cromwell Best Value! Amenities: Restaurant(s) Pool(s) Fitness Center High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Business Center
  18. I just tried the same strategy (basically 16 bids in 5-10 dollar increments) and got rejected from $35 all the way up to $135 for East Hartford too! "We're sorry, but we couldn't find a hotel willing to accept your offer of $135 for a hotel room in the Hartford, CT area." This sucks. Thoughts? :)
  19. Thanks for the insightful tip, dude. That was clearly the advice I was looking for. :) ps. I can get the Crown Plaza for $189 or the Sheraton nearby for $150. I was just hoping someone would have some better suggestions.
  20. I'm taking the connecticut bar and I need a hotel room in Hartford for these dates. My max price is $150 a night. I would like 3* (but I'll settle for less) and my zone must be downtown Hartford and ideally close to the Connecticut Convention Center. It appears that the Hilton is sold out. Easyclicktravel has nothing. I just had a seriously frustrating go at priceline. Here's the results of my unsuccessful bidding strategy: Goal: downtown hartford (A) Free rebid zones: farmington - B hartford south - C manchester vernon - D southington - E Note, I closed priceline and reopened the window for each bid to maximize rebids: Bid 1 $35 downtown hartford A Bid 2 $37 downtown hartford A+B farmington Bid 3 $42 downtown hartford A+C hartford south Bid 4 $46 downtown hartford A+D manchester vernon Bid 5 $50 downtown hartford A+E southington Bid 6 $53 downtown hartford A+B+C farmington hartford south Bid 7 $58 downtown hartford A+B+D farmington manchester vernon Bid 8 $65 downtown hartford A+B+E farmington southington Bid 9 $73 A+C+D downtown hartford hartford south manchester vernon Bid 10 $78 A+C+E downtown hartford hartford south southington Bid 11 $83 A+B+C+D downtown hartford farmington hartford south manchester vernon Bid 12 $90 A+B+C+E downtown hartford farmington hartford south southington Bid 13 $95 A+B+D+E downtown hartford farmington manchester vernon southington Bid 14 $101 A+C+D+E downtown hartford hartford south manchester vernon southington Bid 15 $125 A+B+C+D+E downtown hartford farmington hartford south manchester vernon southington Please help!!!!!!! ps. I will be sure to use the savingsbarn link.
  21. If you want the best deal on the MGM, you should join the MGM Player's Club. They quoted me $89 for 7/21-7/23 and I'll bet the same or similar rate is available for your dates. When you register online, they make you physically pick up the card in the Casino before it's activated, so I'm not sure if you can still get that rate without actually having the card. It's worth a try though!
  22. I'm looking for 4* on the strip or downtown for 7/21-7/23. I can get a room at the MGM with my player's club card for $89 for these dates, which seems like the price to beat right now. Rates are over $180 for most 4* on the strip for these dates and easyclicktravel.com doesn't show much better. However, a friend of mine assures me that the rates will go way down because July is a slow month in Vegas. He claims that he will be able to get Paris for $70 via Orbitz. Frankly, I'm skeptical. Has anyone had any experience with a serious drop of rates for the summer months in Vegas or do you think the rates will hold? Also, any thoughts on a bidding strategy? Thanks in advance.
  23. "Luckily after several attempts I won the Hilton New York for $150 (bid $130, priceline advised have offer if bid $20 more) on Priceline after my cruise on 6/17" It's probably not a good idea to accept priceline's counteroffer. See: Priceline Suggests Price to Pay Options
  24. I'm looking for a family resort type place to travel with my wife and (approx) 10 month old child for thanksgiving. I want a place that has daycare/babysitting facilities for an infant so that we can occasionally go out for dinner. I was looking at the British Colonial Hilton Nassau, which I think I can bid on PL for a good deal. Thoughts or suggestions?
