  1. Started at $50 and upped in $5 increments. A bit more pricey than the recent deals in Downtown Dallas, but didn't see this hotel listed on the Priceline Maps resource :) Cheers!
  2. Can't remember how I bid for this since I forgot to post on BetterBidding right away, but regardless, the end result was $90 for the one night. Cheers!
  3. Bid $ 80 -> 85 -> 90. Seems like a very nice and modern hotel! Cheers!
  4. Did the whole A+B, A+C, A+D, A+E etc, $60 -> $63 -> $65 -> $68 ... -> and finally nabbed it at $80. Spent a couple of nights here last year around the same time, for 10 bucks less a night. Cheers!
  5. Hi everybody, my latest catch through Priceline was this airport hotel at O'Hare South. Started bidding at $45, free re-bids at $50 and $55; refused a counter-offer to $70 and bid again till I got it at $65. Cheers!
  6. Tried CPS, MTW, MTE, TSQ, UWS from $110 -> $150, in $5 increments; no luck.
  7. Hi thereuare, thanks for the breakdown on the NJ transportation costs... doesn't seem all that bad. I guess I'll keep that in reserve. I just had a look at the median retail prices as shown by Priceline, and they've dropped to the lowest level since I've started bidding. DTS is down from a high of $269 to $220, CPS 368->314, Chelsea 375->278, MTE 331->286, MTW 368->314, and so on. I'll try a few rounds of bids right now, one for DTS and another for my top-5 preferred zones, we'll see how it goes! Thanks!
  8. Hi everybody, I've been trying to bid for a property in the areas mentioned in the topic (Central Park South, Midtown West, Midtown East, Times Square and Upper West Side) for some weeks now; my Excel file tells me 2/15 was the first time I tried bidding. I've on occasion also included all other 4* areas in my bids, and I've ranged anywhere between $80 and $155 per night. The lower end of the range is surely very unlikely to happen, but I wonder, after looking at succesful bid here and elsewhere, what, if anything, am I doing wrong, since I haven't had any luck getting a bid accepted yet. Is there a big convention in town that I'm neglecting? Should I break my bid down into two separate bids, one for the weekend and another for the two weekdays (I'm travelling alone and light so switching hotels is a possibility)? Is there a convenient method of public transportation (i.e. a direct bus) from the 4* hotels on the New Jersey side of the Hudson to JFK, which is where I'm flying into and out of? How do you feel the timing of my bid will affect results; is there a chance for a last minute deal in mid-May, or should I just bite the bullet and bid upwards of $155? Any help is always greatly appreciated; I will naturally keep you posted on any results I get :) Cheers, Mikko.
  9. Thanks for the welcoming words, AaronJB, and your tireless replies to other topics as well :) I have now posted all of my stays booked through Priceline, ever. Feel the karma love! Cheers, Mikko.
  10. Hi everybody, quick sleepover in beautiful and exotic Lake City, FL, (...) on our way from Tampa to Destin. The hotel was nicer than I expected, a pretty modern Holiday Inn property. Cheers, Mikko
  11. Hi everybody, more clearing of the archives, this time a one-night stay next to the beach in Destin; the weather was quite chilly and the hotel was absolutely deserted, which was more than fine by me! Nice enough of a place at this price, and the location was just excellent. Cheers, Mikko.
  12. Hi everybody, another one-night stay on our roadtrip across the South; not much of a hotel, but not much of a price, either. Staff was very rude and uninterested, but it's 3* so whatever, you get what you pay for. Jackson was drenched in several inches of ice that evening, so I guess everyone was a bit on the edge... Cheers, Mikko.
  13. Hi everybody, final hotel stay on our 3-week roadtrip around the East Coast and the Deep South. Was delighted both with the hotel and with the price I got for it. Excellent service, lovely decor in the rooms, spacious bathrooms, good location; what's not to love!? Cheers, Mikko
  14. Hi everybody, this was a stay I booked from London-Heathrow Airport, as BA had botched our flights to DC and we were rerouted to Atlanta, from where we started our 3-week roadtrip; had to get a hotel for the night as the flight was going to arrive quite late. A service fraternity was having a meeting in the hotel at the same time; a very young and happy atmosphere, thus. They recommended a microbrewery called Max Lager's, basically across the street, which turned out to be a great place for dining! Cheers, Mikko.
  15. Hi everybody, yet another archival post for good karma and vibes. Charleston is where we finally caught up on our three-week roadtrip's original schedule, after British Airways botching our flights and redirecting us (a day late) to Atlanta instead of DC. They claim bad weather (force majeure), but I know for a fact that Dulles remained fully operational during that particular blizzard, and ALL other flights from ALL major European airports were operating to IAD that day, at least according to Flightstats... Still haven't heard back from BA regarding compensation - which they're obligated to pay, according to EU legislation. Charleston was a very beautiful, charming, old town, and Isle of Palms was very neat and clean - and peaceful, this time of the year! Cheers, Mikko.
  16. Hi everybody, here's another archived stay from last year's road trip. Didn't actually use this purchase, because of botched BA flights. Was just supposed to be a quick rest stop before hitting the road :) And the cost was next to nothing, so no hurt feelings here... Cheers, Mikko.
  17. Hi everybody, this one was a tough nut to crack. Bid on-again, off-again over a few weeks, trying to get this hotel and others in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, but wasn't able to get a combination that was just right in terms of bang-for-buck. This seems to be a pretty new and expensive property, so I wasn't too miffed by the price (the highest I paid for a single night in a 4* on a 3 week road trip), because it was just for one night. What I was miffed about was British Airways botching our flights from Helsinki via London so that I couldn't actually use this reservation... Oh well, that's the kind of situation travel insurances are for! Cheers, Mikko
  18. Hi everybody, posting some old-ish stays for a better karmic record. The Omni in Charlotte was a more than decent hotel! -Mikko
  19. Hi everybody, here's another belated entry to the BetterBidding boards; sorry for the delay in posting these... The Loews is an absolutely gorgeous hotel, loved it! Loved the price as well! Cheers, Mikko.
  20. Hi everybody, Posting this old stay for karmic satisfaction. I bid for $80 + $10 Priceline Bonus Cash for this 4 night stay over New Year's Eve. A well-located hotel if you're into the Sawgrass Mills scene, otherwise perhaps a bit far from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. We had a wonderful stay! Cheers, Mikko.
  21. Hi everybody, posting old stays in the high hopes that the good karma might help with future bids. Pay it forward, as they say :) This Rosen property was pretty gigantic, with longish walks from the self-parking area to the hotel and even from the hotel lobby to the room, if you happen to end up at the very back of the hotel. But a very pleasant stay, none the less. Cheers, Mikko.
  22. Hi everybody, posting some old stays for good karma :) Was happy with the hotel, but the price was, as I see it based on what I've seen here for similar properties, a bit on the high side. Cheers, Mikko.
  23. Hi everyone, posting some old stays. Loved the hotel, and loved the price even more. Breakfast was not worth the money the one time we ate at the hotel restaurant. Cheers, Mikko.
  24. Hi everyone, posting some old-ish results for good karma :) IIRC, I got this pretty much based on old results for this property that I found here on BetterBidding.com. Was a decent hotel, although our room was on a low floor, facing an air-conditioning vent of some sort. This was during the great snow and ice storm in January, so the whole city was shut down and the hotel was jam-packed with people whose flights had been cancelled. Cheers, Mikko.
  25. Hi everyone! This is my first post on this forum (although I have booked a few rooms on Priceline using some information from this site as guidance, I have not posted before), so apologies if my formatting is a bit off. Started bidding the Ft. Lauderdale Beach area at $70, went up mostly in $1 increments. Was offered a chance to raise by $20 at $75 so I knew I was getting close. I refused and continued upping by $1 increments, figuring that I would get either B Ocean, the Westin Beach Resort or the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six, possibly even the W. I was delighted to get the Westin, as it has slightly nicer reviews than the other probable properties. I used Coral Spring, Airport North, Airport, Miramar and Pompano Beach in a classic permutation matrix (A, B, C, D, E, A+B, C+D, A+E, etc.) for the one-dollar increments. Thanks to all posters and mods for making this such a great site! Now if I could only find a decently priced 4* in NYC just before this stay in Ft. Lauderdale :)
