  1. According to the Pricelien Hotel List this is basically the only 4* hotel in that zone.
  2. Hi boumbo and welcome, June is usually a busy season in NY, now it depends on if you want a 4* hotel or something lower. Areas with walking distance from times square will have to be: Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square - Theatre District, Central Park South and Hell's Kitchen. Other areas can be risky because you can not be sure which hotel you get and where it will be and it can be farther away. For a 4* hotel i am not sure if you will be able to get a $100 or a $150 hotel in those areas, lowering your rating a bit will probably do the job.
  3. Look at the Calendar of Wins there are wins in the areas you want for the price range you are looking for. It means that you can and will win what you want at some point. Maybe you can even try and split your stay for 2 nights in one hotel and another night in a different hotel. Jersey city is an option as well but of course it's out side the city so it all depends on you. I do believe that you can and will get something at the price range you are looking for.
  4. In general i believe that closer to the date when/if the people in the hotel see that it's not full they may lower the prices because it's better to book a room in a lower price than not to book it at all, with that said this is not a 100% accurate strategy and you cant count on it for sure. I can tell you that it did work for me few times in NY, waiting closer to the dates got me better prices. I would suggest to go up to $60 anyway. The difference between $53 and $60 is not that big really.
  5. Well, getting the $140 hotel for $50 will be hard i think but you can always try, the only problem with the US side of Niagara is that all zones there start from 3* so you will have a problem using the rebidding strategy i showed you before. Besides never know what hotel you will actually get when you bid with priceline.
  6. Ye, i know what you mean.. I always like to know that my trip is set and i have everything i need but with bidding it's better to have patience specially when you have 2 months before your trip.
  7. Hi palioye, I would suggest you to try and bid on the Canadian side of the falls (if possible) because they have more and better hotels. I won a bid there in December 30-31 for the Marriott for $80 and it's 4*. Please read this Priceline Re-Bidding Explained topic here in the forum, it will explain to you how to bid again before the 24 hours limit. When you bid in Niagara Falls Canada there are 5 zones there and only 1 has 4 starts. I would suggest to use this zone because it is the best location with the best hotels. You didnt tell us what is the maximum amount you are willing to spend on the the hotel. Right now a normal reservation in the area for 4* hotel would cost you anywhere between $130 and $200. So i suggest start bidding at around $65 and go up.
  8. Hello TOfoodie, If you check the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins (Tools on top -> Calendar of Wins) you will see that there is already someone that won the Affinia Dumont in the Empire State Building area at $180. So the price you want is possible. You still have 2 months to your visit and it's a lot of time so i would suggest keep trying few times a week and i'm sure you will be able to find something in your price range of $180. From my experiences (bids that i won) the closer you are to your date the better chance you have to win what you want. Hotel usually stay with available rooms and prefer to sell them at a lower price than not to sell them at all. And i would suggest you to try and split your bidding for 2 nights and 2 nights. Much better chances of actually winning something because 4 nights at a cheap price is a lot for a hotel. Again, keep trying and i'm sure you will be able to win something.
  9. Keep trying, few times a week... You still have a lot of time before your trip.
  10. You still have almost 2 months until you arrive to NY. Priceline has an option to set alerts for winnings so what you can do is go to priceline and set an alert in your account that each time someone win a hotel in the areas you want with the price you want or lower the website will send you an email saying that someone won a price X in area Y. It does not tell you what dates the winning was at so it can be a problem......
  11. I know that Hoboken is a really nice area in NJ, dont know much about the hotels there. A ride to Manhattan will probably cost you like $2 one way with the PATH from Hoboken, dont know where the hotels located there so i donno if you need another transportation to the PATH station or not. If you take a look at the Calendar Of Wins you will see that there are people that got 4* hotels in midtown at $150 and 3.5* for $120. I say keep trying it everyday, you have nothing to loose really. Go to all the NY/NJ transportation websites and you can always check the schedule of all trains/subways you need.
  12. I think it's kinda early to bid for December and $200 for those areas at that time if the year is low. That's my opinion. You can always try....
  13. I'm not sure what to tell you really. thereuare has a point with the whole occupancy thing. You can not be sure about 2 beds in the room, you can always ask but it's not a 100% deal. I think that $257 is a high price. Like i said, i usually wait for the last few days to try and get really good prices - if a hotel see that in the next 2-3 days they have free rooms they do lower the prices a lot. It's better for them to sell a room for a lower price than not to sell at all so there is a logic behind it but of course you can never be sure about it.
  14. I wouldnt suggest bidding on the airport areas. You are coming to NY for the first time and i suggest staying in the city so actually enjoy it. I can tell you this - Newark airport has a train from the airport to Penn station, it takes less than 20 minutes from what i remember but it's $15 each way so you will spend a lot of money on transportation. Same with JFK i think. Now about the other area's like i said, when coming to NY it's better to stay in the city (Manhattan) because you can actually walk around the city and enjoy it. As i said before, the closer you get to your dates the better your chance of getting a good price. Hotels see that they didnt sell all rooms and lower prices for priceline. Of course there is always the chance that all rooms are sold and you wont find anything but that never happened to me and i use priceline in NY several times a year. Now if you want other areas i would suggest going more south in the city like: Chelsea Area, Empire State Building Area, SoHo - Tribeca and Downtown - Financial District. All the areas has 4* hotels bidding and i would only bid on the 4*. Those areas has good subway system and you can use it to get anywhere you want.
  15. By the sound of it we can understand that you have never been in NY. 1. Basically almost the whole city has subway stations, in some cases you will need to change 1 subway to get to a specific place. You can see the subway map here and see what i mean. 2. If you are a first time tourist in the city then i suggest you bid on Midtown East, Midtown West and maybe even Times Square. Now i dont know if you will find something for $120 right now because it's 2-3 weeks before you arrive but the closer to your dates you bid the better chances you have to win a good price. Those areas are basically the centre of the city and to most places you can walk and the rest you can take the subway, you will have a lot of stations in this area for different subway lines. I would suggest to bid only on 4* hotels due to the fact that if you bid for something lower you can end up in a place that you will be very disappointed and will not enjoy your stay. I'm coming to NY in mid April and will start looking for a hotel in those areas as well. Hope i helped.
  16. Nice price. I got the W hotel on a priceline win for $135 between the 9th and the 11th of September, actually i'm here right now writing this email :) Great hotel with great service. We arrived with a baby and from what they said the room that you get for this price is a cosy one with a queen bed and we asked them to get a larger room if possible with a king size bed so the baby can sleep with us. Not only they gave us this upgrade, they gave several nice W present for the baby. We couldn't be more happy with the hotel and it's location as well of course.
  17. thereuare - correct me if i'm wrong but the closer to your date that you make the bidding the bigger your chance to get a better price? Simply because if the hotel has empty rooms on those days in few days then they have less chance of booking it and you will get a better price comparing to if they still have a week or more to book the rooms in a normal rate?! oceanb - check your dates on the internet and see if they really have some kind of a convention or something else big in NY, if not i would wait until the same week of traveling and then make the bid. What i do is start with 4* hotels first up to my $$ limit and then go back and try 3.5*. I'm sure you will be able to find something for $200.
  18. I'm not sure what OP's mean but he has the same days as i do + her has a sunday that i didnt. Just by checking websites like Expedia / Orbitz/Kayak you can see that those days you can book nice hotels for a little less than $300 so i am almost sure that by using PRICELINE you can get great prices like i did.
  19. I won a 4* hotel thru priceline in midtown east for $135 this coming weekend, i'm sure that for your dates you can have the same or even better price.
  20. Hello, I use this website alot to check prices before i bid and finally decided to register and share my winnings.... Just won the W New York Hotel for $135 per night for 2 nights this week from Thursday until Saturday. I really feel that this is a great price comparing to everything else i saw all over the internet.
