3.5* Raleigh Marriott City Center... I was rejected for the first three bids ($60, $65, $71). Last rebid option was accepted at $76.00. FYI the bid was placed on Nov 10, 2014.
So the saga continued....
I ended up going back and bidding again but this time I started with an opening bid of $150 and incremented by $5 each time. Based on your comments and the information pulled from some of the hotel websites I was expecting to at least get the Crown Plaza for $170/night. See below for bids and info and the winning bid.... Thanks once again for the great advice.
1st bid $150 - rejected but informed if I bid $36 more I would get a hotel.
2nd bid $155 - rejected.
3rd bid $160 - rejected.
4th bid $165 - Won Hotel Ivy (4.5*)
Not sure what's going on in Minneapolis on these date/s, but rates are MUCH higher than usual (HOTWIRE has a 4.5* for $185 and a 4* for $255). What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay?
Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Looks like I'd be dropping my * level down to 3 - 3.5 and shooting for the most $70... which after using this forum for so long feels like they (the hotels) are finally getting back at me :)
***EDIT***
AaronJB - what are your thoughts on cost / night to stay in the downtown area for these dates? I'm thinking I have a few more rebid options and I'm contemplating if it is worth pushing my maximum up to meet the range.
***/EDIT***
Tried for a 4* starting at $45 with a total of 18 rebid options. After failing 11 bids to secure the downtown area I jumped to $70 and was still rejected but some forum posts indicate recent successes at $47 and upwards (but not higher than $70) for the same * & area !?!?
Does anyone know if these rates would be accepted closer to my check-in date or is this based on current hotel vacancy rates?
3 night stay
First bid = $80 with a rebid option by adding Banff 4*
Won the bid first crack (should have bid $10 lower).
taxes/night = $12.72
total per night = $92.72
Grand total = $278.16
Noticed someone recently got the Vancouver Holiday Inn (YVR) for $51.00 so I thought I'd start at $52.00 because I only saw Langley as a second rebid option (or risk staying at the HI on Broadway). Nailed the HI @ $52.00 first shot.
FYI staying at the Broadway location isn't bad either. I've stayed there before. It is nice and also conveniently close to the sky-train which will take you from/to the airport.
Thanks to the forums once again :)

The above matches reports for the Holiday Inn Express so that would be my best guess for this one.
I may wait to book once we are out there in case our plans change. Either way I'll let everyone know how well we got on.
Thanks again,

I got this through HOTWIRE

Well I decided I wanted to be a bit further North in the Hotel zone after reading some of the reviews for the Westin (PL bidders seemed to be getting this for ~54). It seemed to me a better deal to pay the extra $20/night. End result I booked Jan 14-16th for $72/night and got the Omni Cancun Hotel for a total of 169.70 w/taxes.
Thanks for your help once again... Love these forums!!
I'm torn between going with this or trying the $54/night deals others seem to be getting on priceline....If I knew for sure I'd get the Hilton (PL or HW) I would pay the extra but I'm not sure... I'll let you know how I get on.
thanks for the quick reply.

I should have booked earlier as it looks like the price went up a bit.... I am pretty sure this was in the lower $60 range previously.
Thanks in advance,

Late response but just wanted to inform others, I did have the first nights charges reversed :)
An update to my Priceline adventure....
I arrived at the Sheraton but unfortunately they only had the one room and not the two I had booked/paid for. However, they were very nice and accommodating. I was offered to take the one room with two double beds and they would refund my monies for both rooms for the first night (I had booked a two nights stay for two rooms), or they would put me up at a neighbouring hotel (La Quinta Inn & Suites) and also refund me for the two rooms for the first night.
We decided to take the second option. I have to say I really liked all the perks of La Quinta hotel (free wifi in the room, continental breakfast, friendly staff).
I have contacted Priceline since I was told by the Sheraton front desk their accounting department would be refunding Priceline who would in turn refund my credit card.
Further updates to come...
Started at $46 & had a total of 10 rebid options, incremented by $2 and won the bid at $48 :)
Curious about the taxes though is $34.52 for two rooms ($17.26 each) considered normal? Grand total for two rooms at a 3.5* 226.52!!
