  1. Thank you SO much Lopezca, I will keep that in mind the next time I'm there. I've only been to DC a handful of times and am never sure how far out I can stay while still having a quick commute.
  2. Thanks for the quick replies and great ideas! If you're finding high rates too that makes me feel less crazy (I thought that maybe they were just rising on my specific computer because I've been searching for a couple of days). They were even higher today so I ended up going to Lastminutetravel.com and got the Sheraton Four Points Downtown Washington for $149 a night plus tax. The thread you have on using the hotel id number, coupled with the tripadvisor review numbers, helped me identify it before booking, so thanks for your help!!
  3. Hey all! I'm having some rotten luck and would love some tips on this one. I have a training next week near the Capitol so would like to be near a metro stop that can get me there earlier. Here is what I have tried to far: 4* - Capitol Hill Convention Center - $100 - declined 4* - added Capitol South - $125 - declined 4* - added Downtown/Whitehouse - $135 - declined 4* - added Downtown - $145 - declined Then tried... 3.5* - Capitol Hill Convention Center - $100 - declined 3.5* - added Capitol South - $125 - declined 3.5* - added Downtown/Whitehouse - $145 - declined 3.5* - added Downtown - $155 - declined The most frustrating part was this morning there was a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for 4* in Capitol Hill Convention Center for $145 but I had to wait for work approval. And now it and anything similar are gone. So I know there were some good ones eariler... Any bidding tips? Should I just wait it out? thanks!
  4. Didn't get it for quite as cheap as we were hoping, but still a decent deal. Used the betterbidding PRICELINE link for this bidding strategy: 1. Kona, 4 star, $85 - declined 2. Kona, 4 star, $90 - declined 3. Kona, 4 star, $95 - declined 4. Kona, 4 star, $100 - declined 5. Kona and Hilo, 4 star $105 - declined 6. Kona, 4 star, $110 - accepted! We took a few days to try this out. They kept coming back with an offer of $127, which was even more than the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer of $122. Saved a bit I guess!
  5. hahaha, that's great! Well I must say you brought my spirits up about it!
  6. $95...7/31-8/1...Palomar Hotel - Dupont Circle. I used the betterbidding PRICELINE link. I didn't start lower as I was hoping to mimic the winner who got the Shoreham for $95+$5 that same evening. I didn't luck out with the Shoreham (still bummed!), but that's all part of the game I guess!
  7. Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles! I finally got a room in Copley, 3.5 star Marriott Copley for 110 (105 plus $5 bonus) for Sept. 17-20. Here is my bidding history: Bidding History: Copley, Sept. 17-20, 3* Increased $5 amounts over time starting at $65... Recently: Sunday: $85 + $5 bonus, rejected Sunday: $90+$5 bonus, added fenway, rejected Sunday: $95+$5 bonus, added fenway and north cambridge, rejected Monday: $100+$5 bonus, rejected Monday: $105+$5 bonus, added fenway, ACCEPTED Copley upgraded to Marriott 3.5*. Final accepted total: Copley District, Marriot Copley 3.5*, $110 a night, total $374.40 with taxes and fees. I used my $5/night bonus in there (I actually paid $105 a night) . Very happy with this win, looks like others have gotten this rate as well. I'm assuming the Courtyard must not have had rooms available or else I would have gotten one of them before I got this. Maybe not though. Good luck to anyone else on that weekend, it's been a headache! Please let me know if I need to post anything else to go on the calendar. Thanks for all your help!
  8. Thank you for your help! Since it's my boyfriend's first time in Boston I'm looking to stay rather central, so Quincy would work and then I'm not sure...maybe the waterfront area? We're seeing a sox game so Copley had been convenient. Good to know it's just an expensive weekend, I'll try bidding up again this evening and see where I get. I'm not sure how much I'm willing to spend quite yet...not much more than $100/$110 for a 3* though I don't think. I know splitting up my stay for such a short period might be ridiculous, but I don't have any problem changing hotel locations if Friday ends up being significantly less expensive than my other two nights (if, for example I did get a price similar to $65 for Friday alone). Is this tactic used much, or do the fees make it less worthwhile? Thanks for your help!
  9. First off, my apologies admins for posting this in the Hotwire section earlier!! I couldn't figure out how to delete it... Hi, I've been bidding casually for a few weeks on different districts and realized I should probably book a room already. I'm looking for a room Sept. 17-20 in Copley District, 3*. Have bid up to $90 in Copley for 3* and been rejected. On the wins calendar, someone got a 3* in Copley for $65 on the 17th, so I was a bit surprised when I got turned down for $90. Does anyone know if there is something going on that weekend I'm not aware of, or have any bidding advice since I'm obviously failing? I've bid. $65-$90, in increments of $5, 3* Copley. Any advice or insight on that weekend and bidding would be brilliant, thanks!
