  1. Thanks for the info, I think I'll keep on eye on it over the next few months. My backup plan will be either to big North Bergen or LIC later on (late aug or early sept) neither of which seem to vary in price all that much, last time I had the Fairfield in LIC for $80 which was great. In doing some research it seems that downtown Newport/Jersey City seems to be really nice with great views of Manhattan, and the conveniecne and cheap cost of the PATH makes it desireable and a lot nicer than Queens/LIC which in my view is not really a great place to be but just a place to rest your head while visiting NYC. North Bergen is close and cheap too but I am not a big fan of the bus...prefer train/subway. Stay tuned!..
  2. Sorry I think the last time I went to LIC I booked direct as the PL price was only $20 in the difference. I will be sure to post anything new. My dates are 18 October to 22 October and I am flying into Newark. Doing a lot of research and a lot people got the 4* Westin for $100 last year in October. I tried 3* at $120 today, no luck dont want to spend much more cause I know I can get something good in LIC for about $100 or less. I might try the 2* Candlewood in Jersey city starting at around $80 reviews are good and its close to the PATH.....any suggestions?
  3. Just tried to book 3* or higher for Jersey City in October with no luck, seems like others had luck last October with the Westin (4*) there for about $100. I wonder why I can't get it now? I went to $120 and down to 3*, no go. I usually do Long Island City and use the subway to Manhattan but this time I thought Jersey City would be a nice change and I want to be near the PATH stations or Hoboken Station in Jersey. Any Suggestions?
  4. I got the Fairfield Inn 2* in LIC for $80. Reviews on this Hotel seem ok, only drawback is using the 24 hour Shuttle to the Subway...likely a little safer than walking. I tried for the Comfort Inn 2.5* cause it was closer to the Subway but had no luck I bid up to $115 that was my max, then I dropped to 2*. I used your PRICELINE link. Thanks Ron
  5. I have been doing a lot of research using Trip Advisor, it seems that Long Island City is my best bet....you can get something nice for under $100. Subway is close to all hotels for daytime travel and only 5-10 minutes to midtown. In the night you can take a cab from midtown for $10-$15, if your worried about the quality of the area. This makes more sense then heading downtown and paying twice that price. I am a lot closer to midtown from LIC. I am going to try Priceline for LIC, I'll use your PRICELINE link. Thanks
  6. I plan on spending most of my time in midtown Manhattan so I was hoping for $150 night, and I really don't mind staying in NJ for $100 or less and commuting to Penn its too easy, I did that before, but this time I am flying in/out of JFK so going to NJ is more difficult. I see some hotels cheap around Long Island City, Are they ok? Is it safe there? I like staying in Manhattan until midnight or so and I was worried about having to take the Subway back to Long Island City late. I know its only a 5-10 minute ride but then I would need to walk to the hotel there. I have been reading that the JFK airport area is really bad too...kinda far to get to Manhattan and back a few times a day. Thanks
  7. I have been trying for the last few days for a 2* in Manhattan for 4 nights...just about anywhere except for UES, UWS and DSF.....I thought I might be able to get something for $150 is that reasonable? It seems that late October is a very expensive time, why is that time so high? Is it because I want 4 nights.....should I try a split? Thanks
