  1. Following up after our stay. The hotel is conveniently located on Woodward about a mile south of the I-75 Square Lake exit. We were 21 minutes from our room to our seats at the Palace for Tuesday nights Pistons game. The Hotel is no longer a Radisson and is simply known as The Kingsley Inn. Apparently they are under new ownership with major renovations planned this year. The onsite restaurant is closed although they do have a small deli open, that we didn't go in. The hotel was nice enough, but I would say "dated" feeling. The room was a decent size although the original room they gave us was a king bed and chair (my hotwire booking did say 3 people), but no issue getting moved to another room. I really wish hotels would use queen beds instead of doubles lol. We had a newer flat screen TV with enough channels to keep the kids occupied when we were in the room. The pool and spa area is under an atrium off the back half of the hotel in a central courtyard area, and as is typical of hotels, very strongly chlorinated. Didn't seem to be a lot of people staying there Monday night and we had the pool to ourselves for most of the last 90 minutes it was open (8am-10pm). For the amount of driving I did up to the Palace and Great Lakes Crossings areas, I probably should have just stayed at a hotel right near there, but for the price we had, I think this hotel was fine. Like I said, a bit dated feeling, but that was basically walking down the corridors. The bathrooms had been done at some point in the last few years and had no concerns in there. The neighbourhood was certainly very nice and even the fast food places up the road were nice looking lol.
  2. Taking the kids on a short getaway this week during the Ontario school break. Doing a few things around Detroit, culminating with the Pistons game Tuesday night, so I decided to search for a hotel in the Auburn Hills/Pontiac Area. Using the HOTWIRE links on here, I searched and found a couple spots, but decided the uncertainty over the hotels and the desire for indoor pools, not to proceed. Changed my search area (for kicks lol) and I saw a really good deal on a 3.5 star. Using the resources of this site from prior posts, and the amenity listing on the bidding helper, I was pretty sure this hotel was going to be the Kingsley Inn (Radisson). Info is listed below. The $71 US price compares to $114 listed on hotels.com FULL AMENITIES: Free parking, Free Internet, Indoor pool(s), Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Golf nearby, Tennis nearby, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking
  3. Yeah, that looks like the one. I just did another search and purchased, using Bidding.helper, the Kinglsey Inn, 3.5* a little ways south. Thanks for your help.
  4. Hi again BB. Appreciate help id-ing this 3 star, (of course, searched for through this site's links) Looking to take the kids for a spring break getaway. March 16-18 95% recommended. Amenities include free parking, free internet, free breakfast, pet friendly, indoor pool, smoke free, fitness center, pool, business center Thanks for your help
  5. Haven't been here in a while. Searched Hotwire for a pre-cruise hotel and came up with some options. Then I remembered to check here, so when I did the search on this site, the prices came back a touch cheaper. Managed to get the Country Inn & Suites for $89 plus tax. I had this hotel already reserved for $140, and just prior to my search, I did a mock booking and came back with $138 as the cheapest option. Will follow up after the trip with the type of room we ended up with. Amenities are as listed on the hotel directory on this site - free parking, pool, HSIA, accessible bathroom, free breakfast, business center, accessible path of travel, handicapped parking, free internet, self serve laundry, in-room accessibilty and roll in shower.
  6. I wonder if Hotwire has reclassified the Americana as a 3*. I found a 3* Niagara West for July 18-19 whose amenities match those listed for the Americana in the hotel list, except it's shown as a 3.5*. I think I will book direct as the Hotwire price is only $12 less than the website, and I need to make sure I get this hotel, so unfortately I can't help you out with knowing for sure this is the Americana.
  7. I just booked the Crowne Plaza Hollywood Beach (through the HOTWIRE link on this site of course). The amenities came up as Resort, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, High Speed Internet and Golf nearby. This is for Jan 9/2011 for one night and was searched as 2 adults/2 children. When I searched as 4 adults, a 4* with a slightly different set of amenities came up (but no Spa which seems to be a Diplomat giveaway). I am very happy with the rate of $92 and look forward to staying here for our pre-cruise night. Thanks to those who offered help and advice through my first HOTWIRE booking. I definitely will be trying this again.
  8. Thanks for that info. Does searching using 4 adults instead of 2 adults 2kids affect anything when it comes to booking like that, and I show up with 2 kids instead of 2 adults? When I just did a search again using 4 adults, I see what I beleive to be the Westin Diplomat for $93, but it doesn't come up with 2 adults/2 kids in the search (although I beleive the Diplomat Country Club does come up using 2 adults/2children). I think I would jump on that one at that price, but I'm concerned that they might not honor that price if we show up with 2 kids.
  9. Thanks for the help. I've decided that I will try the Hotwire route, and have started a request for info on another thread.
  10. Looking at one night pre-cruise, Jan 9-10. Used the HOTWIRE link and this one doesn't seem to match any of the descriptions in the hotel list or on this forum. 3* Jan 9, One night 2 adults, 2 kids $109. Amenities Fitness Center Pool Business Center Laundry High Speed Internet. Thanks for the help
  11. Forgive me just tagging on to this thread instead of starting a new one, but I am a PRICELINE rookie. I see it gurantees rooms for 2 adults. We have 2 kids travelling with us. What typically happens if you get a winning bid and have to call the hotel to ensure room for 4? Do they hose you on the extra people, or tell you tough luck, you paid for a room for 2 and if you want one for 4, you can pay rack for that as well? Thanks, and when I decide either PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, I will use the links through this site. For information purposes, I am looking for FLL Airport and Hollywood areas, for Jan 9, 2011. Thanks Dan
  12. I'm curious if anyone on here has booked the Diplomat through Hotwire and received the golf location instead of the beach. I'm thinking of going for the Diplomat (through the link here of course), after showing the family some pics of the beach location, and would probably be quite disappointed if we ended up at the golf course (especially since I won't have my clubs with me LOL).
  13. Thanks for the help. My wife hasn't been feeling well the last couple days so we are going to forego the trip for now.
  14. Just registered and used the link here for the search and hope for some help from the good folks on here. Anyway, we are looking at Magnificent Mile area for Aug 8-10. 2 adults, 2 kids. I'm seeing one at $109, 4 star, fitness centre, restaurants, business centre, HSIA, and spa. Also see one for Loop area, 4 star, $106. Business centre, HSIA, Pool, fitness centre and restaurant(s). Appreciate the help.
