  1. Thanks for your input. At $213/nt I'm not going to risk it if I can't convince myself of the likely property. I'll probably end up booking something direct at the Marriott @ RiverCenter (Covington) or Embassy Suites (also Covington). Thanks again for taking a look at this!
  2. Sorry for never updating... I ended up booking a Cash + Points @ Embassy Suites for that stay. Thanks as always for your input & help!
  3. 4* Cincinatti Downtown 4/21-4/23 $213/nt Using the Hotwire Easy View tool, the full amenities are: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Spa services I'm wondering if this is a lower star rating of the 21c Museum Hotel (based on amenities except self-service laundry, although the 21c is normally listed as 4.5*). Or maybe the Cincinattian? "Boutique" is kind of throwing me off the trail for the other usual suspects in DT Cincinatti. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.
  4. Dates: 4/2-4/3 (1 night) 2 adults Amenities: Indoor pool(s) Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business center Self-service laundry Internet access Golf nearby I'm thinking it could be the Cincinatti Marriott at Rivercenter, as Embassy Suites often lists free breakfast (not always...); also Embassy was last reported here as 3.5*. I'd appreciate any insights. Thanks.
  5. First try at $50. Win for the Courtyard by Marriott Montgomery. Used the PRICELINE link!
  6. Tried 4* at first: started at $60, used free re-bids in $5 increments up to $110. At $110, I got a counter-offer for $140, but I wasn't willing to try $125, so I stopped... Started on 3.5* at $60 - accepted for Crowne Plaza on first try :) Oh well - maybe could have gotten lower, but still a pretty good price for this hotel. Thanks to the BB for PRICELINE links and good reference data!
  7. First Bid: $55 - counter-offer to $70 Second Bid: $60 - Accepted! Always use the BB PRICELINE link! Cheers, -imthecableman
  8. Congrats on the win! For future reference: When you're given an offer like this, you can often be successful by splitting the difference between your last bid and the counter-offer.
  9. I wanted to update with our decision - we decided to call off the trip. Thanks for the input and I'll used the forum and PRICELINE nad HOTWIRE links again next time I'm HOTWIRE-ing! Thanks!
  10. Hi! Will use the site's HOTWIRE link for searches too! Any thoughts on the 3.5* in North Michigan Avenue with no smoking, fitness, restaurant, business center, internet, golf, tennis? 4.0 starts in Tripadvisor; 90% recommend by Hotwire. Currently showing $95 for 8/12-8/13. Thanks! -imthecableman
  11. For the night of Aug 12 only, I'm seeing a 3.5* in NMA with: no smoking, fitness, restaurant, business center, internet, golf, tennis -- any thoughts on what this one is? 90% recommend in Hotwire, only 4* in Tripadvisor. I'd really like to be certain that I'm getting something with non-smoking, that's why I'm hesitating on the possible Amalfi lead. Thanks! And of course I'll be using the site's HOTWIRE links!
  12. Thanks - I see what you're looking at. If that is Amalfi, it would indeed be a great deal. I'll update the posting as soon as I make a decision and buy (using the BB PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links, of course!).
  13. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! imthecableman
  14. Julie01 - Did you decide and book one of these? I would be interested to know your results. Thanks, imthecableman
  15. Hello, I'm more experienced with Priceline, but there are just too many options out there in downtown Chicago - makes it too risky... I might try it after a little more research, but I thought I might give Hotwire try for the first time. Looking to arrive Thursday, August 12. Stay either 1 night or 2 nights - depending on what deal we can find. I know the air show is this weekend, so that might make it a little tricky... but I saw the success that canadianbullfan just had for the dates right AFTER mine, so I'd like to see what might work. As far as amenities go, smoke free is the only 'strong want' - I know that some hotels won't list that they are smoke free, so I'm willing to take a *reasonable* risk here... just like I would have to with Priceline. For 1 night, three catch my eye: 4* Mag Mile for $109 - smoke free, workout, pool, restaurant, business center, internet 4* Museum Campus for $79 - workout, pool, restaurant, business center, internet 4* N Mich Ave for $94 - Boutique, workout, restaurant, business center, internet, golf So far, the 4.5* options are $146 - higher than I'd like to be, especially since I'm going to have to pay for parking... I'm interested in 4.5* if they come down a bit (you got a good deal on the James canadianbullfan...) For 2 nights, it looks like everything goes up in price, so I'm probably better off leaving the Chicago area for Friday night. Any help you can give on hotel ID, I'd appreciate it. Of course, I'll use the BB HOTWIRE link when it comes time for booking! Thanks, imthecableman
