  1. Don't know if it's the site you mean, but you could try www.hrs.de (click for english instructions). For last minute (within 28 days), try www.wotif.com or www.laterooms.com
  2. Fantastic, Bonnie :) Thanks for sharing -- we're all happy for you!!
  3. We'd love to hear what bargain you eneded up with - PLEASE share!!
  4. According to the amenities and the lists at the top of this forum, it looks like it's the Westin LAX.
  5. Unfortunately for your group, what's guaranteed is a room for 2 people. In the lower star categories you might have luck and get 2 double beds, probably not 2 queens. There is also the possibility that you only get one double bed. No guarantees - only that there are no refunds and no exchanges!! :) As yellowdog indicated, you might be better off with HOTWIRE, where you can indicate that there are 4 people.
  6. It seems as though voubaixar hasn't yet "hit the trigger". What we are seeing is the last page before the button for "buy my room" is clicked. That's why he doesn't yet know what hotel it will be. And it's the priceline page, not the hotwire page. Voubaixar - the best way of id-ing this hotel possibility is by checking the priceline lists at the top of the NYC forum - match the 2 1/2 * rating with any hotels that appear on the list. Your end price of $537.17 is total - nothing else will appear from Priceline on your credit card billing. At this point you are only seeing a summary of what you are offering to bid. Or is it late - my time 1:15 AM - and I am the one who is confused?? :)
  7. Yeah -- unfortunately, after I got my Opal bid accepted for $56 per night Sept. 29 - Oct. 3, Travelocity had it on special a few days later (for our dates) for $57 per night, BUT with the guarantee of a double/double or king bed occupancy. Priceline win is for a regular double and we'll probably have to pay to upgrade to a room big enough for 2 people with luggage!! You win some, you lose some! :)
  8. That pop-up isn't new and I think it's often meant to frighten people into bidding more than they'd like. It may be accurate, but there have been several reports of bidders having won in spite of their bidding under the "slight chance of winning" amount.
  9. It could also be the Holiday Inn with 3* The Wyndham is still listed on the Hotwire lists here with 3.5* Please let us know which hotel it is if you book it. Thanks.
  10. Don't know where you mean by overseas, but Diner's Club is not very widely accepted in western Europe (not sure about the UK). Visa and Mastercard are accepted just about everywhere in Europe.
  11. One of those (few) cases where Priceline rates a hotel higher than Hotwire. Priceline 4* - Hotwire 3 1/2* As usual, was impatient to finish up the plans for this post-cruise trip. (We fly back to Europe on 10/08). 4* LAX - Westin (Noted that during this year this facility will become totally non-smoking) Won with first bid - $61 Taxes & Service Fees $16.22 Total - $77.22 Naturally, bid through savingsbarn.com :)
  12. Have a look at tripadvisor.com The reviews are very mixed - especially when it comes to priceline or hotwire rooms.
  13. Hi gosroc, Lockout time was lowed to 24 hours (instead of 72) quite a while ago. :)
  14. Hi tracyha, Did you remember to click through to Travelocity by going through the support links above? It is appreciated. :)
  15. Lockout time was changed to 24 hours quite a while ago. No need to wait 72 hours any more! :)
  16. Zbenye, Please continue staying at the Opal until September (or return there then), so that I have a chance to meet one of the most illustrious, reknown Priceline bidders of all time!! :) We arrive on September 29 and I'll continue to follow your SF archive until then....
  17. After bidding up to $101 for these dates for 4* USE & USW, decided to go for a relatively "sure" thing and bid $56 for Cathedral Hill. It's way in advance for our trip but this is for post-cruise (we'll need the laundromat facility that the Opal offers :) ), and since we already have our flights booked and paid for (2 one-ways from Europe: DUS to Vancouver and from Los Angeles to DUS) didn't need to wait and book the hotel. I'm sure I could have bid lower (thanks to Zbenye), but our dates are pretty expensive at the Opal (at different sites for up to $229 per night!!). Hotwire's present offering for a 2* USW was $159. At the price we paid, we can always decide to do 1 night of luxury at a 4* if I can get it last-minute. Naturally, bid through savingsbarn :) MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
  18. Surprise, surprise -- all the inexpensive hotel options were gone, POOF, when I checked again today! No $29, no $64, no $65. Guess I'll just keep looking and bidding through priceline - naturally through savingsbarn! I do have 9 months -- enough for some people to have a baby or for me to find a hotel :)
  19. The extremely cheap option has been appearing quite a lot recently with hotwire. See my posting in the San Francisco forum for "bidding problems". It hasn't been resolved, and even the hotwire hotline wasn't able to put the booking through. I wasn't surprised to find all the inexpensive hotel offers missing today when I checked again.
  20. Continuing on with the San Francisco mystery story -- I'm still trying and still getting "itinerary no longer available" messages on this, 48 hours and multiple tries since I began. The story gets better in that the second of the hotels I was interested in (2* showing restaurant and business center icons, which I believed to be the Metropolis Hotel at $64 per night), is now showing at $29 per night. GREAT -- tried booking it, same problem! Called Hotwire again and they tried booking it. They also couldn't get it to go through. They were very apologetic, but that doesn't alter my problem (and it would be a great price). Since the Diva Hotel and the Metropolis Hotel are under the same management, I can only assume there is some problem with their updating of the offering. But then, why reduce the price?? :)
  21. Also try www.wotif.com for last minute reservations.
  22. Thanks for all the help up to now! I just reached Hotwire at the 1-866 number (had been trying before on the number to use internationally 1-920-634-3150 since I'm in Spain at the moment) and was told that the hotel inventory is being updated. Whether that's true or not I'm not sure, but since it's now 1 AM here, I'll put the computer - and me - to bed now and try again tomorrow. Does anyone think that I'm correct in the assumption that it is the Diva Hotel? Amenities are: breakfast included, fitness center, restaurant, business center. (Same as in the packages.) I know it's a long way out, but we get back to San Francisco on a cruise on the 29th of September and so I know that the plans are firm. If it is the Diva for $65 per night that would be o.k., if not then I'm stuck with it. The 4 stars are listed at upwards of $200 and priceline has been unresponsive up to $95. I guess I shouldn't be so impatient :) Thanks again.
  23. Hi Thereyouare and all: I've spent most of the past hour trying to book a hotel through the HOTWIRE link above on this page :) The details are 2 1/2* San Francisco Union Square West for Sept. 29 - Oct. 3, 2007 - price is $65.00 According to the cross-check with the package offers, I'm thinking it's the Diva Hotel (same amenities). I get to the final booking page, after entering credit card information etc, hit the button A N D get the error message that the hotel is no longer available. I close the browser to see if it's really sold out, give in all the details again, A N D voila, again the same offering of the 2 1/2 * for $65.00 This is getting to be a bit silly :) I've tried calling Customer Care, but can't reach anyone because, of course, I have no booking number!! Any ideas how I should proceed now?? Looks to be an O.K. deal IF I could book it. Thanks - once again - for all your help.
  24. Looks like someone's been spending too much time on TOBB. The questions look pretty similar to the "REQUIRED" form over there! This great board is not nearly that regimented :)
