  1. Everything seems so much more expensive that what I used to pay, 2-5 years ago, in the LA area (essentially anything in the whole LA region and Torrance-Long Beach region). Priceline had a lot to offer, but there were also things like travelocity top secret hotels, which appears discontinued, that enabled me to get things like the howard johnson torrance for 30-45 per night, including fees and taxes. So I'm just wondering, does anyone know of any current way (priceline, hotwire, something new I've never even heard of) to get something decent (pretty much 2*, though hopefully not something like the cecil hotel in downtown LA, which is kind of hellish, even if considered 2-3 star (more like a howard johnson, extended stay, holiday inn express, la quinta, etc, or better) for $45/night (including taxes and fees) or less, when booking a 3+ night stay? This used to be possible (maybe it's the season, though even in march and april, I had no success, and stayed with friends even though I would have preferred my own space). Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions
  2. Tell me about it! What a terrible time to be visiting LA. 103 used to pretty much be retail for a hotel like that. I got the same radisson on hotwire in spring 2010 for 55 plus taxes and fees. Now, it looks like $55 on hotwire gets you an unnamed 1-star roach motel in inglewood (i haven't dared tested my luck with the 1 stars yet; i've just been overpaying for named hotels). (This is just icing on the cake for me; I don't even want to be in Los Angeles. I desperately want to be in England, but I recently spent 6 months there and immigration won't let me back in for a while, because of limits on tourist visas. So here I am, begrudgingly in los angeles, thanks to british immigration, and I'm getting royally ripped off on hotels. This has me profoundly sad. I don't even want to be here at the prices I used to pay.)
  3. I've just been having the worst time ever trying to book summer hotels, in the LA area, on priceline. I'd been staying at hotels in LA using priceline, very affordably, for weeks, and then in mid june, all the deals went away. Since then I've had around 400(!) rejected bids, all at much higher prices that what was usually accepted in may and june. I've only had one accepted bid since then, for 5 nights. Other than that, I've been using other methods of booking hotels. Does anyone know when the good deals will come back? Also, I used to like getting the extended stay america hotels in the torrance-carson region, for as low as 28-35/night, but those deals seem temporarily gone (of course, I've also used priceline to get the hotels like the crowne plaza lax and crowne plaza redondo beach for more than that). Does anyone know of any similar great deals on extended stay america hotels, using priceline? (perhaps in the san fernando or san gabriel valley, since there seems to be nothing in the main LA region or long beach region, anymore)
  4. Just so there isn't any ambiguity, would anyone be able to post the address of this hotel. I'd probably be interested in trying to bid for it.
  5. This place is gross. If you don't want to believe me, do yourself a huge favor and come here and ask to look at a room before you buy it. This appears to be the only two star hotel in the redondo-manhattan region that has wi-fi as the only listed amenity. I used to use HOTWIRE all the time, then took a 3-month lapse and mostly used PRICELINE and Travelocity's new top-secret thing in that period. The last two times I used HOTWIRE, recently I got an extended stay america and this disgusting independent motel (the sign at this place has adhesive residue spelling 'motel' on it, as if they just changed the end of the name from 'motel' to 'inn and suites'). I had thought that HOTWIRE only partnered with hotels that offer daily housekeeping (which extended stay america does not) and are national brands (which this motel isn't). It feels like they've reduced their standards recently. I never got anything that wasn't a chain, with daily housekeeping, before (at least 15 reservations), but maybe I was just lucky. Any thoughts? Anyway, Honestly, I think I forgot to use the HOTWIRE link on this site, for this purchase, but I have used it for most of them in the past, and will try not to forget again, and to post more.
