Also, Hotwire gives choice of beds. There is a fee to upgrade from 2 double beds to 2 beds. Is it safe to assume that the upgrade is to 2 queen beds or is that a faulty assumption? Thanks.

Thanks. We decided to move more to the edges of the city on the north-- Vinings, Perimeter, etc. Probably looking for something of the Hampton, Fairfield, Courtyard variety in a decent location.
Thanks for the quick response. I'm going to hold off and look for something else in Downtown. I've read some of the reviews of the Omni and really don't want that property so I'm not willing to take the chance. I'll keep checking Hotwire over the next week or so to see what comes up.

Thanks for the reply. I used the Hotwire linked and booked the W Lakeshore and it had the amenities set you noted. I stayed at the other Chicago W before (Adams St.). The rooms are nice even if the hotel itself is not really a place for families to hang out. It will do the trick for out one night given its location.

On a related note, I've seen you post about your familiarity with the area. Is there a big difference in terms of "walkaround" things to do (shopping, restaurants) for families between the Magnificent Mile/River North Area and the Water Tower Area? We stayed in the Loop a couple of years ago and it seemed like many things closed relatively early compared to the Magnificent Mile area (maybe catering to businesses?).
