Well, I have tried the bidding process a few times already. I edited my trip for 12/31 - 1/5. I am going to do a bid for 12/31-1/2. Reasons being I know I can get good cheap rates almost anywhere on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, which is when everyone returns back to reality, as does the hotel rates. Doing my research off of Priceline and the info of this site, I have determined my best opportunity seems to lie in the 3.5* range in the South Strip, which would be the Monte Carlo and Flamingo and any other higher rated hotel (which all of them are nice in my book). I tried my first bid and tried to get greedy and went with 95 per night, which got rejected. I have since done a combination of various vicinity adds. The obvious one being North Strip, which has no 3.5 and only has nicer 4*s, so if i win there it would almost be a bonus. I also added Henderson and Nellis, which dont have anything higher than a 3* and upped my bid all the way to 121 per night and have still not had any success. I am right now done with adding options, so I can't bid anymore today. Is it unrealistic to think I can get a room under $130 per night for new years eve and day?? Flamingo on these dates avgs $228. Monte Carlo avgs $250. NYNY is a 4* and avgs $200. Most PRICELINE Name Your Prices Bids seem to be in the 50% off neighborhood. So are they trying to hold off on most bids for this time of year since rooms will be going at a premium as the date nears? I am trying to get it done now 5 months out in the hopes I can score a better deal, but if its not going to be much of a discount to bid, I may just stay at a cheaper hotel near the airport for these nights and taxi it into the strip. Curious your thoughts and any advice.
