  1. Bid through the PRICELINE link at the top of the Better Bidding webpage.

Had tried bidding for 4* property all the way up to $95, though I was offered a counter bid of $115, which I rejected. Not wanting to go over $100, started a new bid for a 3.5* at $68. That was rejected, but got a counter of $88. Added a free re-bid zone, and upped my bid to $73. This was accepted, but was shocked to see the Embassy Suites Downtown/Town Lake pop up, as I thought this was a 3* property. Usually get the Radisson at this star level. Time to update your master list I guess! Hopefully it will be decent, at least Embassy Suites usually have a good free breakfast.

  2. Hit on first bid. Total with taxes/fees was $67.31. Hard to avoid this hotel in this zone at this star level. It's a decent property, just very difficult to access from the surrounding freeways. Was initially given what must have been the "priceline room", which was on first floor next to the indoor pool and smaller than normal. Walked back to front desk and was given a regular room, since there were only maybe 5 cars in the parking lot.

  3. First bid of $68 accepted at the Austin Hyatt Regency. Total with taxes and fees is $85.98. Lowest price on Hyatt website was $159, which led me to believe I could get this for under $70. Very happy to be back at this great hotel! :)

Before this I bid $50 for 3* category for Austin NW/Arboretum and was rejected, so started the downtown bid as a new bid process. Bid through the betterbidding PRICELINE link.

  4. Won this hotel for $92, or $112 including taxes and fees. Amenity icons were Restaurant/Business Center/High Speed Internet/Fitness Center.

I am actually going to be in DC until the 24th, but Thursday the 20th, rates in DC are extremely expensive, while the weekend is very cheap, so decided to separate out my stay between the weeknight and weekend.

I had pretty much narrowed it down to this hotel and the Hotel Helix based on the lists on this board. A tip for readers: I was able to be pretty certain this was the Westin because on Hotwire, they included this property's TripAdvisor star rating and how many reviews it had garnered. Cross-checking with TripAdvisor, it matched almost perfectly, while the Helix had many more reviews and was listed at a helf point higher.

  5. Back from my trip. and just wanted to say that I was treated very well by hotel staff at the Parc 55. Upon arrival at around 12:30pm ( check-in time is listed as 3pm) I was offered immediate check-in and was given a corner king room on the 25th floor. It was the largest room on the floor ( look for rooms ending in 01). Truly spectaculor view from Mt. Tamalpais to the north to the San Mateo bridge in the south! Housekeeping, concierge, and front desk staff were all very friendly and professional. Best part is, my travel companion paid full rack rates off the hotel website and was given a substantially smaller room, so no discrimination based on paying hotwire rates.

  6. Amenities listed:

    Restaurant

    High Speed Internet

    Business Center

Got this for $104 a night. Pleased with the price and the location. Tried for several days on Priceline bidding 4* for USE and USW zones using free re-bids went from $85 to $105 with no luck. Decided to use HOTWIRE as the price was within my comfort zone, and didn't have to keep trying with no guarantee of success. Used the HOTWIRE link on the home page. Thanks betterbidding!

  7. This was a last minute bid as the home air conditioner went on the blink yesterday as we sweltered in 100 degree temps. Since I didn't have much oppurtunity to re-bid for the same day, I placed this bid and won on first try. I had never even heard of this hotel, seems to have been constructed in the last couple years. Signs in lobby indicate it will be re-branded a Hyatt Summerplace Suites soon. Nice place , but the hardest bed I have ever slept on ( and I like firm mattresses)!

One interesting note: the front desk clerk didn't seem to have a clue about how to handle a PL reservation, so I had to explain how it was pre-paid by Priceline's credit card, not mine. I gave her my PL receipt to speed things along, and she noticed that PL paid them $42 for the room, though my receipt showed $45. This really confused her, until I explained the spread and how PL makes their money.

  8. As you can see from my previous post the weekend of 3/09 is very busy in Philadelphia. Was unable to get a good rate on a hotel searching all 3 nights of my stay ( Thurs-Sat) on either Hotwire or Priceline. decided to split the bid and things worked out much cheaper as some properties are sold out on Thursday night, and others are sold out on Saturday night. Yes, I have to move hotels, but saved over $70 a night doing so, even with Hotwire. FYI, the 4* Westin shows up on Hotwire for Thursday night at $242!

Doubletree listed as: customer favorite, pool, restaurant, fitness, and business center.

  9. Going to Philly for the Flower Show and regular rates are very high for the weekend. Westin's website quotes $259 as their best available rate, so quite a savings!

    Amenities: Fitness Center

    Restaurant

    Business Center

    High Speed Internet

From the lists here I deduced this would be either the Westin or the Loews, either of which would be fine. Very happy to get this property. Placed bid through savings barn website.

  10. Have gotten shut out on Priceline over the last week for bids in this zone, decided to go with Hotwire at $64. The hotel was listed as a customer favorite and the distinguishing factors for this hotel's amenities were the golf and tennis symbols. The hotel is in fact located next to The Raquet Club, a large private facility in Memphis. Pleased to be able to get something at a discount as this is Liberty Bowl weekend in Memphis. most hotels are sold out, or charging high rates. Doubletree website shows $149 for a room on these nights.

  11. Going to DC for the Memorial Day weekend holiday, figured I'd start bidding now before things get tight. Started with a 2 1/2* bid for White House zone at $52 thinking I might get the Residence Inn again, since their rates for that weekend are only $149, but was rejected. Started over with a completely new bid for White House at the 4* level at $72, was again rejected, but was offered a room if I would increase my bid by $22. Knew I must be close to something, so added Foggy Bottom area and upped bid to $76 and was awarded the Capital Hilton at 16th and K Streets. Happy with the hotel, though would have been nice to get the Sofitel!

  12. Just needed a room for one night and wanted to be somewhat near Dupont Circle , so bid this zone, as I didn't want to end up in Woodley Park. First bid of $52 was accepted. Was trying to split the difference between rates this hotel and the Courtyard seem to be accepting, given there really aren't free re-bids at this star level. A great deal considering the Marriott website wants $229 for this hotel and $199 for the nearby Courtyard!
