  1. Hello and thanks for the quick responses. I would like a minimum 4* in a downtown area with lots of shopping and restaurants. So... On hotwire I can get: 4*, North Michigan/Water Tower/Gold Coast with restaurant, fitness and business center. When I click on it it says that tripadvisor gives it a 3 out of 5 star rating so it's definitely not the Sofitel. :) Any other ideas? It costs $71 a night plus taxes. Priceline: What is the best area to pick, based on my preferences? I guess the only 3 choices would be Greater Chicago, Millenium Park or North Michigan. I don't have a backup plan yet as we have a lot of time. One last thing: Is there a way to get the Orrington Hotel in Evanston through PL or HW? Thanks again...
  2. Regarding the 2 previous posts: We ended up not being able to go to Chicago and We stayed at the Park Central for $120 a night. Sorry I didn't follow up however, a few times I made seperate posts regarding my winning bids. 1 last question: Is it possible that the Sofitel is a 4* hotel in Hotwire North Michigan/Water Tower/Gold Coast? It's listed on the better bidding list as a 4.5* but indicates many changes.
  3. Hello, We need a 4* hotel in Chicago that meet the following criteria: December 20-24 (3 nights) Millenium Park/Loop/Grant Park or North Michigan Ave/River North areas 2 questions: 1. Is one area better than the other for a "downtown location" (shopping restaurants etc...)? 2. Could you please tell me your bidding strategy? I already bid $45 but will promise to be incredible patient as it is 10 months away! Thank you so much in advance.
  4. I just won a priceline bid for the following: Jan. 14th for 1 night (Saturday) Doubletree hotel - jersey city $79 + tax (about $96 total) Just wanted to let everyone know..
  5. Hello, Could you please help me with a bidding strategy for the following with priceline: 2 nights Friday, Dec.2-Sunday, Dec 4th 4* Central Park West, Midtown east or west, and Times Square Thank you in advance so much. Quick question: Can I get a room for under $300 with the above requirements?
  6. Also, the front desk never mentioned priceline. Sorry to previous poster who had a bad experience.
  7. Hello, Well we stayed here on Friday for 1 night at the $79 I posted. I called in the morning to request an upper floor with a harbor view. We got it with no problem and we checked in early at about 2:30PM. Hotel was very nice and the view was great. Bathrobes, nice bathrooms, big rooms and everything was clean. Also, the staff was very warm, professional and helpful. Self Parking is $21 but that includes a 6 hour buffer. So, we parked at 2:36 on Friday and didn't have to be out of there until 8:46 the next day. That seems pretty fair to me! However, we ate dinner at M&S Grill. Not so good. Service was slow and the food was pretty good. There is a much better M&S in Reston.
  8. That bid was my only one. I simply read other posts on this site and bid $79. By the way...what other hotels could have come up at 4* inner harbor? Thank you so much!
  9. Got the 4* Renaissance Harborplace Waterfront for May 27th (1 night) for $79. The reviews on tripadvisor look great.
  10. About 3 months ago (sorry for the delay) I purchased a priceline package as follows: -Washington DC to Prague in very early August for 7 nights -5* Marriott in Prague's city center -After booking I found out that the airline is United with only 1 connection. Layover is an hour and a half! -2 adults Total price including taxes - $2523 After checking other websites at the time, the cheapest I found was about $4000 for the exact same itinerary. I think the priceline package is now up to $3100 - still a great deal. The cheapest airline alone price I found was actually priceline at $867 each. Most other airlines started at $1000.
  11. Thanks. Yes, I am just coming to that conclusion about Sunday nights; thanks for pointing it out! You know, some of the packages that priceline offers are really wonderful. I'll post in the priceline section.
  12. Sorry that I left out all of the details. Here they are: hotwire.com -May 15th for 1 night -times square/theatre district -4.5* -$170 a night plus tax -amenities include: fitness center, spa, high-speed internet, business center -restaurant(s) We debated about this and a 4* in midtown east for $169. Thanks for all of your help!
  13. I found a 4.5* in times square for the middle of May at $170 + tax. The Westin. Just thought I would let you know.
  14. Sorry, my 1st question is a little vague. The area closest to the city center is most desirable for us. 1 last question: Can we do better on priceline?
  15. Hello, We would like to stay in Chicago from Dec 27 for 4 nights. Chicago loop is showing for $96 4.5* Questions: What are the best areas on hotwire Chicago to stay in? What hotel would the above probably be? Thank you.
  16. Hello again, I read the Patty42day thread so I feel a little bit more educated. What do you advise me bidding on priceline to give me the best chance at the hyatt? Again, hotwire is offering it at $79 for May 15th.
  17. Hello, I want the Hyatt in Hoboken/Jersey City for May 15th one night. I entered this info (2 adults) into hotwire and got a 3.5*, restaurant, pool, business center. The price was $79. When I changed it to 2 adults, 1 child and it was $76. I went back and forth with the same results. Weird, huh?! Anyway, I have 2 questions: 1. With what certainty are you that this hotel is the Hyatt on hotwire? 2. Will I do better with priceline? If so, how much should I bid on priceline? The highest star rating is a 3* in Jersey City. Is that the Hyatt? Actually my 2 questions had several follow ups! Thank you in advance. This site is so helpful.
  18. Right, I changed the dates to accomodate my work schedule. The dates of my trip are May22-24.
  19. Hello, About 2 weeks ago, I got the Park Central Hotel (3*) at $130 through priceline. I had tried up to $160 for a 4* and was rejected many times. Through their website, you can get a room there for $139 the first night and $159 the second night. Just thought I would let everyone know. Next time I will be more patient in my bidding though. Has anyone stayed at the Park Central? Reviews on tripadvisor are so mixed. Any first hand experiences?? Thanks moderators!
  20. Also, With more patience, could I have done a lot better for myself in May?
  21. Hi there Thereuare, Okay. I got a little bit impatient and excited. Priceline let me bid up for a 4* several times within 24 hours. I didn't quite understand that but I was happy. Anyway, I bid up to $160, 4*, and was rejected. So, I bid $125 for a 3* in ME, MW, UE, UM and was promptly rejected. 30 minutes later I bid $130 for 3* same areas and got it; the Park Central Hotel. I know that the location is amazing, but the reviews of the quality are mixed. Do you have any first hand knowledge of this hotel? Thank you so much for your post.
  22. FYI...My wife wants to stay in Manhattan so Jersey City is out of the question. Thanks again.
  23. Dear thereuare, I am looking to book a NY hotel for 2 nights on May 15-17th. I would like to go book on priceline. I would bid as high as $150 (before taxes) and stay at ME, MW, UMCP, or UE. I bid $99 for these areas yesterday and was rejected. Do you have any bidding advice for me? Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.
  24. Could the doubletree and the marriott be 3.5*??
  25. I looked at hotwire for jersey city and the highest star rating they had was 3.5*. Is this the Hyatt for sure?
