  1. Bob, I used some humor during my check in. I mentioned I had superstitions about rooms that end in 5 or 10! I guess it worked since they gave me a different room. I used prior info to my advantage is the best way to sum it up. Take care, thanks for the reply. T-
  2. Bob, I think your recent review and pictures must've made an impact since we didn't have the same experience. The front staff were very nice and were in a festive mood. I did make sure we didn't have a room that ended in 0 or 5 so they gave us a spacious corner room with a nice evening view. The room was well kept, a little dated but had some nostalgia to it. It's NOT a 4* rating as promoted but more of a 3* on a good day. The bedding was clean as was the carpet and furniture. The wall paper, shower, and television all needed an upgrade. I would've preferred to pay around $55 to $70 for this property and not the $80. Regardless, location was good and it was the holidays so the hotels in the area were busy. Again, thanks for your invaluable input. It made a difference in our stay and I hope my posting will have the same positive impact yours did for others. Enjoy the holidays. T-
  3. Aaron, I forgot to mention I did use the PRICELINE link to get my bid which I always do. Bob, I greatly appreciate the heads up. I will make sure to follow up on the tip and post my experience after the weekend. Take care.

  6. Won on second bid for $45. First bid was $40 and Priceline offered a rebid of $55. I rejected it and scored it for my second bid. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $45.00 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.90 Total Charges*: $59.90 Rack rate for this room with fees/taxes total $150. Big savings for a nice place. 9. La Quinta will allow you to park for free in there parking lot and offer some security. The shuttle is a 10 min ride. Airport fees run about $9 per day in the long term parking. We stayed for one night, left our car at La Quinta for 7 days. The shuttle picked us up swiftly upon our arrival and we saved some good vacation cash on not having to pay for parking. Decent place with a pool. There is a restaurant and a bar at the hotel plus Walmart is right around the corner if you need any last minute items. Hope this helps.
  10. 1st offer of $45 for East Region rejected, added downtown. Winner! Price Per Room, Per Night: $50.00 Subtotal: $50.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.27 Total Charges*: $64.27 Rack rate for this hotel is $160 per night. I did use this site to begin my bidding. Very happy!
  11. Hotel just went under some renovations. Perfect for the the one night stay we need before flying out of town. Free shuttle so we have to pay airport parking. Rack rate is $99 plus taxes. 1st bid $35 2nd bid added downtown $40 3rd bid added east zone accepted. Your Offer Price: $45.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes and Fees: $15.03 Total Charges*: $60.03 Used PRICELINE to book my room. Thanks.
  12. Oops, here is the info: Settle Inna And Suites Overland Park 4401 West 107th Street Overland Park, KS 66207 I started with 3 1/2 hotel request and $25 bidding. I added several zones and also changed my hotel rank to 2 which was my mistake. Priceline accepted the 2 * hotel and I now I'm paying $6 over rack rate for a low level place.
  13. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $55.00 Subtotal: $55.00 Taxes & Fees: $17.32 Total Charges*: $72.32 I screwed myself on the bidding process. Not the best deal or the best place. My own doing but lesson learned for next bid. I did use the PRICELINE link on this website to book my deal.
  14. I've been searching for a good rate on a minivan for a week long stay in San Diego in August. I've searched all the rental agencies and the prices vary from $600 to $850. That is including fees and taxes that the airport sticks to us. My local car dealership advised me to look into San Diego car dealerships since they sometimes rent cars. I found Kearney Mesa Toyota does rent vehicles. They are giving me a 2011 Toyota Siena for 8 days of usage for $396. NO FEES OR TAXES. The dealership is 10 miles NW from the airport. Only limitation is I have 150 miles per day to use but since we are staying in the SD area, that shouldn't be a problem.
  15. Just a quick closing on this thread on our experience. I've tried for 3 weeks to get an accepted bid for a week long stay in Downtown SD in a 4* hotel in early part of August. I've had zero luck with bids up to $115. I chose not to go higher since Hotwire is offering rooms at $118. I will admit I was frustrated but not turned off by the rebidding process since I know it works just not in this case. My brother ended up getting a beach front property near Oceanside. My family opted for a hotel stay in Carlsbad. We've elected to stay at the Inns of Americas Suites for $119 a night on Expedia. I called them before making the purchase and found out that the Hyatt is taking over the hotel and is remodeling the rooms and the hotel will be a 3 or 3 1/2* very soon. It's a suite with a king bed, small kitchen, free internet, free parking and free continental breakfast. This worked out better than we thought since a 4* would've charged us for the extras. Our final night of stay will be in Downtown SD at the Omni. We are paying rack rate largely because we want that specific hotel since are attending the Padres game with small children and may need to exit and re-enter. Overall, I know I have til August to continue bidding but I have a heavy month of traveling in July for work and needed to get this planning out of the way. Thanks to the several bloggers for their valued input, it was good advice and much appreciated. Take care.
  16. Thanks Colfax. Can you elaborate a little please in regards to bidding to early?
  17. Indigo looks to be a great place for a good price on Hotwire but the reviews pretty much advise us this is not a place for young children. We have a 7 month and 3 year old. I'm on day 8 of trying to bid for a 7 day stay for 4* in SD. Max bid so far is $115. I started the bidding at $75. I've also tried to split the dates as previously suggested. I'm trying 8/4 (Wed) to 8/8 (Sun) 1 bid and 8/8 (Sun) to 8/11 (Wed) 2nd bid. Max bid $105 with no win. I called and spoke with a rep from the Omni Hotel, she mentioned the Omni still had between 200-300 unfilled rooms during our requested stay. I would imagine most 4* places may be in the situation which has me wondering why the bids I've submitted haven't been taken. Oh, I've been using this site to make bids on Priceline. Thanks.
  18. Needing to find out if anyone has a good guess which hotel this might be: Amenties: Boutique Hotel Property offers a distinctive, unique or eclectic atmosphere. Many boutique hotels are smaller, hip properties in an urban setting, or renovated hotels with historical flair. Smoke Free Rooms Guest rooms at this hotel are always smoke-free. Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. High-speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.
  19. Very nice suggestion SLRUUD, thank you. I've not heard of that website before. Out of curiosity, they have a 4.5 * available but do not show what the potential hotels would. Any idea? Yes, we have factored in the parking and the current deals available, it's still a great deal compared to the current rack rates in my opinion. Thanks Colfax, my doesn't want to split the stay or else I would've made the call already. She's the boss! HA!
  20. I must've missed the Indigo's $89 option on Hotwire. I looked for it yesterday and didn't find it. I think Hotwire is going to be a better option though I thought Priceline provided us a better chance on getting a rock bottom deal based on my readings. I will continue to try Priceline for at least week before I give in. I do believe the 7 day option is hurting our chances. If I lower it to 5 days, do most hotels offer same rate if you decid to add a couple of days to the stay?
  21. I have a small family of 4 and since we have an infant, we can get away with needing just a King. I will look into Hotwire as suggested but I will try this bidding process another day or two to see what happens. Also, based on your input, should I try and expect a higher bid above $115? Thanks Colfax.
  22. I'm going to San Diego for a week to spend some time with my sibling who is returning from Afghanistan for military leave. I would like to stay in the downtown area during our one week stay. I've read where bids have been selected for this location anywhere from $75 to $115 for a 4* which is my preference. I used the strategy on PRICELINE providing me multiple bids starting at $85 increasing up to $115 and exhausted all the possible regions to select outside of a 4*. I figured $115 is a good max price based on other winning bids but it didn't get accepted even I tried the 15 regions starting at $85. Is it because I am needing a weeks stay or is it due to the time of year (summer) and they have leverage to get higher bids? Anyone with experience or input is greatly appreciated.
  23. First bid and got it. Already stayed at this location and needed to update it for all others. The hotel was appropriately marked as a 2*. Nice place for the price and no complaints. Very nice restaurant and bar inside the hotel. Just needed it for an overnight stay and didn't check out the rest of the amenities including breakfast. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $55.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $55.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $15.87 (USD) Total Room Cost: $70.87 (USD) Rack rate for this place is $140.
  24. Just stayed at the Hyatt Regency, great place, wonderful location. Great score to the Arch, baseball stadiums and eateries. Ruth Steakhouse is attached to the hotel. Just one tidbit about parking, you can park at the hotel for $25. There is a much cheaper parking garage on the next block call Mansion. $10 over night during the week and $3 overnight parking on the weekends. Of course the St Louis Cardinals were NOT in town so that could change. Not sure though.
