  1. Update--so I finally just looked an apartment rental. It was 105/night, it's really close to the Blue Line at Milwaukee and Division. It's a 15-20 minute hop to The Loop. Thanks for your help with the Price.line attempt.
  2. Aaron, I don't see those options on Priceline Express. But, I am considering a 3 star (initially I was interested in 3 1/2 and above, but lower expectations now) in Downtown - Millennium Park - Grant Park area on Hotwire with a 45% recommendation (somewhat disconcerting), with the following amenities: - Fitness center - Restaurant(s) - Business center - Self-service laundry - Internet access - Accessible for hearing impaired - Accessible path of travel - In-room accessibility - Accessible bathroom - Accessible parking Can you ID it?
  3. Aaron, the amenities are: - Free Internet - Indoor pool(s) - Fitness center - Pool(s) - Restaurant(s) - Business center - Internet access - Accessible for hearing impaired - Accessible path of travel - In-room accessibility - Accessible parking This list is quite similar to the one you shared so it must be the Essex Inn. The price on Hotwire is $184/night. I'm seeing some good last minute deals so I may end up booking a hotel once I get there. I'll update this thread.
  4. Thanks for the responses. I see a 3.5 star hotel on Hotwire in the Downtown - Millennium Park - Grant Park area with 50% positive reviews (yikes!). Amenities - Business center - Fitness center - Free Internet - Indoor pool(s) - Pool(s) - Restaurant(s) Accessibility - Accessible for hearing impaired - Accessible path of travel Is this the Congress Plaza Hotel (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-congress-plaza-hotel-chicago)?
  5. I'm traveling to Chicago from June 24 until June 26. I'm flying in. Here's what I've tried so far: - Bid on June 10: $100/night, 3.5 star rating, Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area. Bid was rejected. - Bid on June 16: $110/night, 4.5 star rating, Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area. Bid was rejected. My meetings are mostly in the Loop so I'd like to be in that area, but it's not imperative. River North would work, as would pretty much any area that allows me to hop on a train and get to the Loop. Paying $125/night would be nice but that's somewhat flexible too. I would like to keep it under $350 (including taxes) for the two nights. Open to ideas/strategies. Thanks.
  6. Guys, just closing the loop on this. I tried multiple bids (the highest at $131) but didn't get anything. So we just booked with Adam's Inn directly at a base rate of ~$143. Taxes additional.
  7. I'm thinking something close to Adam's Morgan would be nice. A friend of mine lived in DC for a long time and suggested this neighborhood. In fact, he even suggested a place to stay; a place called Adam's Inn. They have rates starting at $99. We'd probably get the $149 room there, which, with tax, comes out to about $182.00...if we decide to go that route. But I'd like to try my luck with PRICELINE first. The closest bidding area to Adam's Morgan on PRICELINE is Dupont Circle-Woodley Park. Suggestions on a strategy? With regards to how much to spend, I suppose we'll spend up to $150 (~180 with tax) since that's what the inn above is listed at.
  8. Yeah, I'm absolutely open to an area that's further out. It doesn't have to be close to the Westin. I guess it would be nice to pay a $100 or less, but we'd probably pay up to $125. Why is 6/7 so expensive? Is it just the fact that it's a Monday?
  9. Okay Aaron, thanks. Man, this site is the bomb! Seriously impressed.
  10. I'm looking for a hotel room in DC for the night of Mon, June 7. We're actually there from Fri-Tue but I've found a hotel for the first 3 days (see my winning priceline bid Washington DC thread). Priceline wouldn't accept the bid to extend our stay by one day though. We're staying in the downtown area (I think!) the first 3 nights, but we're open to other areas. Our flight leaves BWI at 5:15 PM EST so we have most of the day free to do whatever we want to do. Any suggestions on what areas to bid on? We'd be interested in staying in an area that's unique to DC.
  11. thereuare, thanks for the input. That was very helpful. So I did get a hotel when I split the bid: Fri, June 4-Mon, June 7 for $87 at The Westin Washington, DC City Center (it's a 3.5* hotel). Here's the history of the bids (not including the ones I posted earlier): [These were all, of course, rejected...except for the very last one] 6/4-6/8: 4* CC-CH $60 6/4-6/7: 4* CC-CH $60 6/4-6/7: 4* CC-CH + WH-DT $60 6/4-6/8: 3.5* CC-CH $60 6/4-6/8: 3.5* CC-CH + WH-DT $60 6/4-6/7: 3.5* CC-CH + WH-DT $65 6/4-6/8: 4* CC-CH + DC Suburbs-Northeast Area $75 (note there are no 3.5 stars or above in DCS-NEA) 6/4-6/8: 4* CC-CH + DC Suburbs-Northeast Area + WH-DD $80 6/4-6/8: 4* CC-CH + DC Suburbs-Northeast Area + WH-DD + Mount Vernon (again no 3.5 stars or above in MV) $90 6/4-6/8: 3.5* CC-CH + WH-DT $87 6/4-6/8: 3.5* CC-CH + WH-DT + MV $97 6/4-6/8: 3.5* CC-CH + WH-DT + MV + DCS-NEA $101 6/4-6/7: 3.5* CC-CH $77 (at this point Priceline came back with a counter asking to up the bid by $18. I opted to add a zone and only up it by 10 bucks...which is the last bid below) 6/4-6/7: 3.5* CC-CH + WH-DT $87 (This was accepted at The Westin Washington, DC City Center) Does this information help? Maybe it's too much! One other point: priceline offered an extension to the booking. Since we do need a room for one more night I opted to try and extend our stay by one night, but it wasn't accepted. I find that interesting that it was offered but didn't work. Thoughts on that?
  12. We are going to DC from Fri, June 4 to Tue, June 8. Our flights are booked so the dates are firm. We are using the weekend to see DC and then meeting with legislators on Monday, June 7. As such, I think Capitol Hill-Convention Center and White House-Downtown would be good areas. Here's the history of the bids (all have been rejected): May 21: 4* WH-DT $75 May 25: 4* CC-CH $70 May 27: 4* CC-CH $70 May 28: [2 different bids] 4* CC-CH $65 4* CC-CH and WH-DT $70 Any suggestions on what to do? I'm not averse to going up to $90 or so, but I've seen successful bids posted at $60 so I'm hovering around $65-$75. Also, is it true that it's easier to get a lower rate for the weekend in DC than on a weekday? If so, should I just bid for Fri-Sun and see if I get anything at a lower rate, and then hope for the Priceline offer to extend stay at the same price? Note that the first 2 bids were directly via PRICELINE. And then I thought of this site and googled until I found it (again). And I've used the PRICELINE links here since.
