  1. Girlfriend and I are driving down to Peachtree City/Atlanta area for a wedding later today, but we're going to stop a couple hours short of the destination. So, I got a 2.5* hotel off PRICELINE's Name Your Price for $50 + fees. Its the Fairfield Inn & Suites. I think the only other 2.5* star here is Hampton Inn, and the rest in the area are all 2* after doing an hour or so of research. I first tried $40 on just 2.5* and Commerce, GA. It failed. I then tried $45 on 2.5* and Commerce, GA and Jefferson, GA (no 2.5*'s here). It failed. Later I tried $50 and Commerce, GA, and it worked! I'm a big fan of the Marriott chain hotels, so I'm glad I got this. I was a little disappointed my reservation showed a 2 queen room instead of a king, and I tried to call to get them to change it. They said they had no more kings left tonight. I think she didn't even try since I can reserve king rooms on several other travel sites for that hotel just fine (for $99+tax of course). Hopefully I'll get them to give us one when we get there tonight!
  2. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of that Travelodge on Bypass or any of them in the area actually. There are police called there quite often for disturbances, and there is a Hooters next door, which is one of the few bars in the whole area. Maybe that's a plus for you though? LOL. There are several other good hotels on Bypass Road if you look (other than Ramada 1776, bleh), but that traffic is awful to take a left turn across during the day and evenings and especially in summers. You would be doing that if you went to get your son at Warhill. I would take a look at Powhatan Plantation, which is nearby, and it actually has some surprisingly cheap rates on PRICELINE's regular hotel booking section. Also, the Days Inn at Lightfoot (I think it goes by the name Days Inn Williamsburg Colonial Resort) is pretty good, and I've stayed there a few times. Its a newer hotel and pretty far away from most of Williamsburg, but it will be very close to where your son is. Also, check out the Clarion and Holiday Inn Patriot on Richmond Road. Those are very close as well. I think I recently saw the Clarion around $70/night on one site. On PRICELINE Name Your Price, the Outlets area is going to be close to where the sports complex is, and the Busch Gardens area is on the opposite side of Williamsburg (an extra 15 minute drive probably on 199). Let me know how it works out...
  3. I just booked a night there at the Kingsmill Marriott on 7/30-7/31 and may extend that another day for the same place ($53/night). This was through PRICELINE. For something closer to your neck of the woods, I would try doing Name Your Price on PRICELINE in the "Outlets" area instead of the "Busch Gardens" area which I did. If you don't mind hopping on 199 for a 10-15 minutes to get back and forth to where your son is, you can try the Busch Gardens area. I used to live there until 2006 and worked for a company which partnered with all of numerous hotels in the Williamsburg area, so shoot me a PM if you need advice on which hotels are nicer and whatnot.
  4. I just saw a member had success with this price, so I tried it myself. And it worked! I'm at the Marriott on 50 Kingsmill Rd. Its about $100+ on PRICELINE and other sites normally. I may try to extend it and add the Thursday (7/29/10) night as well since PRICELINE offers that. I'll update the thread if I get it...
  5. Whoops, here are the amenities listed by Hotwire: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center In reality, the hotel looks like they have many more amenities than this, like Smoke-Free and High Speed Internet and Complimentary Breakfast if you check their website. It seems really underrated for a 2.5*. I have a friend whose family has stayed there several times in the past few years and loved it.
  6. Thanks to this site, which was recommended by a friend, I was able to match up the Mount Vernon Hotel to Hotwire's offer last night for $55/night for two nights, and this is on the busy Preakness weekend apparently. After I booked my room, it looks like Mount Vernon Hotel became completely filled, too, since I can't find any reservations for it on any other site now. I'm hoping to not get one of their double bed rooms and just a queen or king room. Has anyone had luck requesting that over phone with this hotel? I'm in for the weekend for a wedding in the area, actually Owings Mills area, so we're planning on taking the Metro to the Owings Mills Mall and taking a cab the last half mile to the location and doing the same thing on the way back. Does that sound doable or should I just deal with a big cab far to-and-fro?
