  1. Bid only at the 3 star level. Sunday 6/29, bid $52 declined. Then rebid $57 on a different card and email account, Priceline counter with a $72 offer, passed on offer. Monday 6/30 bid $59 Priceline countered with $71, passed on offer. Rebid at $65 with another card and email account, Priceline accepted. $65 per night plus $12 tax/fees, so out the door for a total price $77. Rack rate at the hotel for the night of 7/2 was $95 for a savings of $30 per room for the night. We booked two rooms Look like a nice place with good reviews. Thanks Better Bidding.
  2. Ramada Inn Springfield North, bid $45, Priceline countered with $53, accepted. $53.00 per night x 4 = $212.00 + $36.64 taxes and fees = $248.64 out the door price. Advertised rate for the nights in question was $79 per night plus tax, saved about $110.00. That will buy a nice dinner :) The property has good reviews, should be perfect for our needs. Thanks Better Bidding.
  3. Originally tried Priceline and I was up to $77 for a 3* with no success so I tried Hotwire and found this property. Price per night was $66 + $22.47 taxes and fees = 154.27 total. 4. On 1/3/12 bid $56, Priceline countered with $68, declined, added a free rebid zone and increased to $63. Success. Looks like a nice property. The rack rate for the two nights in questions was $99. Room total $126 + $22.46 fees and taxes = $148.46 total price. Used the PRICELINE link on Better Bidding.
  5. Looking for any adice for the Seattle area. My wife and I are planning on about 7 nights in the Seattle area. I will probably bid on Priceline. We have no particular plan, nor are the dates set in stone. So does anyone have any advice as regards to location, i.e. Downtown vs Redmond vs University vs...........? Should we rent a car? We have never been there before so any thoughts or advice on where to go, things to do, or places to see are welcome.
  6. Bid $39 for a 3* in the Westport area, rejected by Priceline. Received a counter offered for $49 from Priceline which I declined. Added the St Charles area as a freebid (no 3* in the St Charles area) and upped the bid to $44. Priceline accepted the bid and upped to hotel to a 3.5* Total price after taxes $58.00. Best price I saw for the property was $106 plus tax. Saved $60, thanks BetterBidding.com and I went to PRICELINE via the link on your website. Also, I booked this at 10 AM on 7/30 and was in my room 10 hours later.
  7. How does the Priceline agreement with the hotels work. I assumed that if you bid on a say a 3* that Pricleine whould give you a 3* property where they could maximize their profit.
  8. Stayed at this Hilton May 2010, pretty much what you would expect for a 3.5* hotel. It was neet and clean with an attentive staff. Excellent location in the Heart of downtown Portland. Went to dinner at Kells, an Irish Bar. Nice place with good pub food plus they had entertainment on the night we went.
  9. Nice clean hotel, pleasent staff Amenities Near Beach - about a 10 min walk Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access DVD player in room and there is a rental store across the street from the hotel.
  10. Amenities confirmed: Complimentary Breakfast Fitness Center Pool Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Nice clean hotel, pleasent staff - 2 minutes off of I-5
  11. I too called Hotwire to complain about the star ratings. I booked a 3 star hotel and ended up with a 3 or 2.5 star, depending where you get the info from. In my case the hotel I received was listed as a 2.5 star on the Hotwire site if you booked the hotel in the traditional way, yet going through the opague process, they claim it as a 3 star. Bunch of nonsense listing it with different star ratings on different pages on the same website. They explained that the ratings are an average of the big three..... Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity, plus some other vague criteria......customer reviews. In my case the hotel was a 2.5 at Expedia and a 3 at Travelocity and Orbitz and they went with the 3 stars since 2 of the 3 sites claimed it as so. Calling them up with an issue is like trying to fight city hall, they have the script down pat and you are probably not going to get anywhere. My advice is to research the three websites if you can and draw you own conclusion before bidding. FYI, the 2.5 star I did receive was a very nice property.
  12. Decent price, saved about $20 per night over the standard price and they have good reviews, bonus breakfast bar, should do nicely
  13. Irritated at Hotwire, bid on a 3* through their opaque process for Lake Oswego / Tigard oregon and I get the Holiday Inn Express Lake Oswego which they claim is a 3*, when I look at Horwire's retail side of the operation where you can create a vacation by selecting specific components, the same hotel is listed as a 2 1/2* property, sounds like a bait and switch to me, in the end it was a good price, the hotel gets good reviews, and everyplace else that I looked showed the same hotel at $99 a night
  14. Started at $50 4* Downtown Portland - denied, went to $55 added an adjacent area without a 4* -denied, went to $61 and added a 3 1/2* accepted, first time bidding on PRICELINE, happy with the results, though next time I will know how play the game better, I am sure I could have gotten it for a few dollars less, also bid on a car through PRICELINE - seven day rental through Avis for a compact car, started at $11, next day $12, next day won bid for $13, out the door price with tax from PDX $138, approximately $40 less than the best rate on the standard travel sites. I was very skeptical about the whole PRICELINE thing with some of the horror stories you hear about them, but as I read the some of the stories on the net and compared it to the information provided by Better Bidding I releazied that some of these people had no idea what they were doing, follow the strategies laid out on Better Bidding and you will do well, remember, be flexible, thank you Better Bidding............P.S. I my haste to get on with things I forgot to link to PRICELINE through Better Bidding, the next time. and there will be a next time, I will definetely go through the Better Bidding site, sorry
