  1. I was hoping to see something on this topic of bidding for airfare. I've noticed some "different" things happening with Priceline's Name your Own Price airfare site. I've used them in the past, and always had great (or decent) results. But on my last few trip requests, results have been lackluster, or non-existent. For example, I have recently been trying for LEX to LHR (Lexington, KY to London, Heathrow). I have been flexible on dates and the airports as we have at least two others (Cincinnati and Louisville) that would be acceptable. However, I've been getting all responses that say they cannot accept my bid, but if I want to raise by bid by $X, they will offer me a savings of $6 off a published fare. Six dollars? When we're talking published fares of around $1,000, they want to offer $995 or $997? I hardly think that's worth not choosing flights. In addition, I've noticed on several attempts that they don't even give me the option to choose a different date or airport (even when options not exhausted). They simply say they can't accept it. Or, on one occasion, they brought me to the regular site where I could select from listed flights. But again, no savings over what they show on their regular (non-bidding) site. Since this has been happening quite often, I'm starting to wonder if there really is a potential to save anything substantial (10%, 20% 30%) off published rates. Priceline likes to say "up to 40%," but I'm beginning to think that these are very few and far between, if they exist at all. If they are so far between, then I think saying otherwise is starting to fall within a gray area of false advertising. Anyone have any thoughts, or better results than I've had?
  2. Recently stayed at this hotel and was treated very poorly for being a Priceline customer. Upon arrival, the desk clerk told me that "Priceline has requested a two-bed smoking room for you." I informed the clerk that, to the best of my knowledge, Priceline does not request anything. They simply inform us that bedding and room assignment are at the discretion of the hotel, and that any preferences for such should be made to the hotel directly, not Priceline. Still, she insisted that it was Priceline who requested my room. When I asked if they had a non-smoking room available, she indicated that they did not....that there was only two rooms left, side-by-side, and both were smoking. Two rooms? Myrtle Beach in the middle of February? It was approximately 9:00pm at night, and there appeared to be 20 cars (at the most) in the parking lot. Was she trying to imply they were booked? Anyway, I accepted the room as I know we are certainly at their discretion. Upon entering the room, we heard a loud motor/humming noise and looked out the window. There were all of the exhaust fans or whatever on the roof right next to our window. Gee, thanks for the view and the noise! Still, we figured we got what we got. However, when I went to inspect the sheets (as we always do now with the big bedbug situation going on), we found what appeared to be small bloods stains smack in the middle of one side of the bed. So I went downstairs to the desk and mentioned to the young lady that we needed the linen changed. She mentioned that she would have to switch rooms as they did not have housekeeping still there. But, upon looking, she realized that the one and only "other" room that had been previously available was now booked. Within moments, though, she found another room. Unfortunately, it was down the hall on the same floor (smoking floor); however, thankfully, it did not have the exhaust system right outside our window. I guess it really pained her to give us a room that wasn't totally horrible....just slightly horrible with the awful smoking fumes and smell in the carpet and drapes, and the window noise. It really was awful, and I truly believe the desk clerk was determined to give us the worst rooms in the house simply because we were Priceline customers. Very sad. There really is no need to do that....do they think we'll return to that hotel in the future given a choice? As mentioned in a previous review of another Priceline hotel stay where the desk clerk was simply outright rude because we were Priceline customers (the room was quite nice....desk clerk was not), if you're going to accept bids from Priceline, then treat your guests as guests, not like second-class citizens. Otherwise, you get these types of reviews. Holiday Inn, shame on you!
  3. Was accepted with a $50 bid, first-time. It gets ok reviews, but now we're concerned about the parking. Apparently, the garage has low clearance, and our van probably won't fit.
