  1. After checking out what was available on PRICELINE between $90-$110 self-bidding wise, I didn't come up with any accepted bids so I decided to try HOTWIRE. I saw a 3.5* hotel in the Midtown Central area with Fitness, Restaurant, Business, and Internet going for $99. I was hoping it'll turn out to be either the Novotel or the Hudson, but instead I got the Park Central. I read that the hotel is pretty dated. Hopefully, I'll have a decent stay. I notice on the Hotwire Hotel list the Park Central is under 3*. I guess HOTWIRE bumped the hotel up a half a star to 3.5. Thanks.
  2. After seeing the luck of some other bidders, I was actually trying to get the Le Parker Meridien, but I'm still happy with my result. I started with Midtown West at $90, then moved to Times Square at $95. Central Park South for $100. Added Midtown East for $110 and it was accepted for Algonquin. Thanks. I used the PRICELINE link too.
  3. I notice there's no 1* star hotels mentioned on the PRICELINE hotel list. Out of curiosity, has anybody stayed at a 1* star Manhattan property? Any hotel above 14th street and below 66 street? Priceline states that these are independent properties (and not chains). Would any of you be willing to stay at one? Thanks.
  4. I tried every possible combination and bid amount, and nothing happened. I wonder if there's some huge convention going on or maybe mutiple conventions because priceline didn't give me anything. When you're bidding $250-$300 for 2* properties, something must be wrong. I ended up booking the Royalton Hotel directly for $349 plus taxes and fees. A total of $404. All for a friend in need. Just crazy. Thanks for letting me vent.
  5. You can book a 2.5* or 2* hotel off PRICELINE. Something like Holiday Inn Express, and you'll get two beds in the room. Find parking on the side streets like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 9th, or 10th Avenues and leave your car there and ride the subway to the game. There's almost a subway stop everywhere in midtown. It's cheap and convenient. It is possible to stay in the midtown, Chelsea, or MSG area. Maybe even midtown east, so all you have to do is jump on the 4 train. Another idea is book something in Long Island City or Brooklyn. Plenty of parking in both areas, so you can drive to the stadium, but I don't recommend that cause parking is not cheap.
  6. Congrats on getting this hotel. The Affinia Dumont is an excellent hotel with spacious rooms. I stayed there a couple of times and had great times. I would recommend upon checking in to request a high floor and if possible a corner room. The upgrade will run you about $25 per night, but the views are spectacular. You can check the pics out on their tripadvisor page here. Congrats on your 15th anniversary. :)
  7. Hi All, Guess my luck of getting 4* hotels for under $120 has ran out. I started first trying to get 4* with an initial bid of $100. I went all the way to $170 with no luck. I proceeded to close my browser, go thru the forum's PRICELINE link, and try for 3.5*. Then I went for 3* and finally, I tried 2.5*. Must be a crazy convention going on because it didn't seem like any hotels were available. I made a bid of $115 and got accepted with The Holiday Inn Express NYC Madison Square Garden. I saved about $100, which isn't too shabby. Thanks.
  8. Hi All, Today was a pretty tough bidding day. I tried every possibly combination and rebid strategy. Started in the Time Square area, move to Midtown West, etc. Lowered my star rating. Logged out. I wasn't getting anything. decided to try again after lunch with the initial bid of$160. It went all the way up to $189 for the Renaissance New York Hotel 57. I don't understand why it's classified as Central Park South, the hotel is on 57th Street and Lexington Ave, which is Midtown East to me. This isn't as good as when I got the Algonquin for $80 or the Affinia Dumont for $95, but it does seem to be a nice hotel. Also, I used the PRICELINE link Thanks.
  9. I'm sorry to hear that Colfax. My strategy is to book really close to the desired date(s), sometimes even on that date AND a lot of luck. Some would say that's high risk, high reward. Best deal I had gotten so for off priceline was the Algonquin Hotel, for $80 before fees. Excellent for a 4* hotel. Good luck on your future bookings. :)
  10. A friend of mine wanted to stay in the midtown west/ time square area. I started with 4* hotels, but didn't get anything. I slightly downgraded to 3.5* and got the Millennium Broadway Hotel for $115. Not bad. :) I used the PRICELINE link. Thanks again.
  11. Actually my mistake, it is kind of listed. The New York Marriott Downtown was known as the Marriott Financial Center, which is on the list. When I enter Marriott Financial Center into tripadvisor, it redirects me to New York Marriott Downtown. Just an FYI folks. Thanks. :)
  12. I got a great rate for the Affinia Dumont this past Monday (March 29). I started with an $80 bid and when rejected added another zone and increase the bid by $1-$5. I got an accepted bid at $95. Didn't take too long. I've become a big fan of this site and PRICELINE. Thanks.
  13. First off, this is a get site and has been tremendous fof me information wise. I decide to stop lurking and help out. Better late than never. I was trying to get a hotel in the Soho area, but got one in the Financial District/Battery Park City area. I don't see the Marriott New York Downtown listed on the priceline hotel list. Please add it to help future bidders. I started with Central Park South and $80 and got rejected, then I add another zone and a $2. Eventually the Marriott New York Downtown accepted my $90 bid. $115 Total isn't bad at all. I find if you bid closer to you desired date and after 1pm, you'll do pretty good. :)
