  1. Started bid at $72. Re-bid at $78. Not a huge savings, reviews are mixed (was hoping for the Residence Inn), but just needed something for an overnight. New hotel for the list.
  2. New hotel for the list. A last minute bid. Tried $90 for a 4* (unsuccessful), went down to $75 for a 3* and got it on first bid. Bid only for this area as I wanted something close to the BankAtlantic Centre. "Resort" was sufficient, but not spectacular. Online rates are reasonable, so the $75 was hardly a super deal. And the $15 resort fee seemed steep (though it included parking -- first time dinged with a resort fee on a 3*).
  3. My bad. it was high-speed internet access. Cheers
  4. Tried Priceline up to $330 for 4* and $275 for 3* w/o luck. "Retail Value" of $639 very misleading -- hotel can be had on most websites for $399/night. Amneties: Boutique, fitness, restaurant, business center
  5. Accepted first bid. Stayed here before and am pleased with the result/price. Check-In Date: Friday, May 18, 2007 Check-Out Date: Saturday, May 19, 2007 Hotel Name: Marriott Pittsburgh City Center 112 Washington Place Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15219 412-471-4000 Your Offer Price: $42.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Taxes and Service Fees: $13.30 Total Charges*: $55.30
  6. Not a huge deal, but still a few bucks less than anything else in the neighborhood, even on a slow Sunday night. Tried unsuccessfully to $84 at 3*, and was rejected at $42 and $48 before being accepted at $50.
  7. This took a while. LGA location is actually more convenient for my itinerary, but was hoping for a good Manhatten deal -- like the NYC vibe. Used about 50 rebids over the past week and bid up to $190 for 4* in all midtown locations, $160 for 3* and $135 for 2.5* without success. Hotwire prices were high for that time, so I knew it would be a challenge. Settled on the LGA location and started at $98, then bid $106 and $112 using free rebids. That's $100 less than the Holiday Inn's pre-payment option, so it seems like a decent-enough deal. And the adjacent-to-Shea location, for this trip, works really well. I think this is the old Ramada Plaza -- if so, it's been upgraded to 3* status with the switch to Holiday Inn. While blocks away from a 7-train stop, other posters have claimed the area is a little sketchy at night. I'm traveling solo, so despite being "citywise", I may need to cab back from midtown rather than taking a midnight subway (although, even with a $30 cab ride, I'm ahead). Any thoughts on this from any NYers?
  8. Bid $75 USE. Rejected USE + CCA. Rejected at $81. USE + CCA + CH. Accepted at $86. Perfect location.
  9. Bid $52 for 4* LAX. Rejected. Added Brentwood. Rejected at $56. Added Downtown (my ohter choice of neighbourhoods), upped the bid to $60 based on other successful posts. Even with taxes, fees and parking, it's still under $100/night
  10. You assume correct -- I went right from $91 to $101. I suppose I could have tried in $5 increments, but looking at the Hotwire prices, I was guessing that $110 would have been the magic number. If I overpaid by $5, I'll just have one less pint :)
  11. Return visit to Boston. Wanted to stay in Back Bay. Unsucessful at $64, $71, $81, (using Medford-Somerville, South Boston re-bids). 72 hrs later tried again at $91, before landing at $101. Accepted at $101 Your Offer Price: $101.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $101.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $20.95 Total Charges: $121.95 This hotel has gone for less, but prices for that night seem high (property going for $265 to $350 on other major sites). So I'm pleased.
  12. Bid unsccuessfully at this price point at other western suburban locations: Natick-Framingham Marlborough Shewsbury-Westborough Tried 4* at $65 without success Added 3* at $62 and got this hotel.
  13. Bid 3* $89 MTE rejected Bid 3* $99 MTE, UES, rejected Bid 3* $106 MTE, UES, CPS rejected Bid 3* $111 MTE, UES, CPS, MTW. Accepted, with an extra star to boot. Hilton New York 1335 Avenue of the Americas Your Offer Price: $111.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $111.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $26.38 Total Charges: $137.38 I know reviews are mixed, but it beats an airport hotel!
  14. For what it's worth, I went up to $140 for a 4* in DC-WP/WH-DT/CH-CC for the WEEKEND preceeding (5/13-5/15) with no luck. Lowest 4* on Hotwire was $165. High demand time in DC. Ended up settling for the 3* Hilton Crytal City at $62/night ++ for a total of $149.32 after seeing a successful bid on this board for that time period. You may consider a similar "suburban" strategy if your party is relatively mobile and plans to be out and about most of the day. Good luck.
  15. First bid of $35 rejected. Added Liberty, increased bid to $39. Accepted. Your Offer Price: $39.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $39.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $13.73 Total Charges: $52.73
  16. Hilton also offered tennis. The 3* All-inclusive also included tennis, golf, children's activities and a restaurant The 2.5*'s list is complete And I haven't found the 4* again. (Remaining dates that I need accomodation is Feb 16-19, but I may use this info for future trips)
  17. Hilton was secured for the period Feb 12 - Feb 15, 2005 Amenities: - Resort - beachfront - restaurants - pools - fitness center - Spa - Children's Activities - Golf Amenities of the 3-star all-inclusive - resort - beachfront - food and bevergaes included - water sports - evening entertainment - daily activities included - pool - spa - fitness center Amenities of the 2.5* hotel - near beach - airport shuttle - restaurants - pools Amenities of the 4* aren't 100% clear (hotel not offered right now), but I remember they did include the standard upscale items (pool, restaurant, beach) as well as a children's centre.
  18. Haven't seen many posts about St. Lucia. I've seen 4 properties on Hotwire. We figured out one of them and booked, but seek any insight on the others. The 4.5* hotel is the Jalousie Hilton Resort & Spa Bay Street Le Gallerie PO Box 251 Soufriere, Saint Lucia (758) 456-8000 We booked via Hotwire for three nights in the February high season at (an expensive-but-still-$50-less-than-the-next-best-deal) $297/nt less than a month before the trip. In our efforts, I also saw: 3* All-Inclusive at about $400/nt; 4* beach-front property at with a kid's club at $191/nt; 2.5* "near" the beach at around $75. Can anybody identify any of these other properties? And has anybody had any problems with their Hotwire booking in the Caribbean?
