  1. Thanks. Think we'll pass on this one; can get the Baymont for not much more than the HOTWIRE price, so not a great savings. Plus, the recent reviews for the Baymont haven't been that great. I'll keep trying!
  2. There is a Hotwire listing for a 2.5* hotel, $122, for 7/23/12 & 7/24/12. Amenities: - indoor pool(s) - laundry (self serve) - free parking - free breakfast - pool(s) - fitness center - high-speed internet access - kitchenette I'm guessing Hampton Inn, Baymont or Fairfield, but the listing says "$229 on other sites" which seems high for these hotels. Any other guesses? Thanks!
  3. Here are the amenities for the Hotwire Cambria Suites room, $138 for 7/22/12: Indoor pool(s) Accessible for the blind Free Internet Accessible bathroom Fitness Center Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel Handicapped parking Pool(s) Free Parking In-room accessibility Roll-in shower
  4. 7/22/12, 3* Traverse City hotel, $138, Cambria Suites.
  5. I tried again today and had no luck with PRICELINE: 1) 3*, North, $90 2) 3*, North + Acme, $95 3) 3*, North + Acme + West, $100 4) 3*, 2.5*, North + Acme + West, $90 So, I bit the bullet and got a 3* room on HOTWIRE for $138. I assumed it was the Cambria Suites, and it was. It gets great reviews, so we should be ok. It wasn't available for additional nights, so I will keep trying for lodging for 7/23 - 7/25. Splurged for 7/22; hope to find some better deals for the rest of the trip!
  6. Thanks for your input. I will keep trying on PRICELINE; will look at HOTWIRE as well. As always, I'll use the links on this site for bidding.
  7. Hello. I am looking for lodging in Traverse City, MI for 7/22/12. Will start with 1 night but need up to 4 nights. I just failed at my Priceline bids. Here is what I tried: 1) 3*, North, $79 2) 3*, North, Acme, $82 3) 3*, North, Acme, West, $89 4) 3*, 2.5*, North, Acme, West, $80 I'm assuming with it being summer, my bids are simply too low. Any advice for my next try? Is 50% of the going rate for rooms a realistic bid? Thanks!
  8. Greetings! I'm trying to identify the Hotwire 2* hotel in the Grand Haven/Spring Lake area, date 7/21/12. Amenities: indoor pool(s), pool(s), biz center, laundry (self-service), high speed internet, golf nearby, free parking, free breakfast. Recommended in 90% of Hotwire customer reviews. I just failed twice on securing a 3* hotel for that night on Priceline (assumed it was Holiday Inn). So, looking at this Hotwire listing. Any input appreciated!
  9. Yes, the location worked out perfectly! Actually, both hotels were fairly close to the conference we attended. About 10 minutes. Nice hotels, too. A good trip. Thanks!
  10. Just got the Hyatt Place Columbus OSU for $62 for 6/18/11 on first try (I probably overbid but time to hit the road!). I used the PRICELINE link on this site.
  11. I struck out w/Priceline last night. Started w/Easton/Airport at $35, then added University, then Downtown, then Polaris...increased bids. Then changed dates. Still no luck. Was going to add 2.5 stars, but by then it was past midnight & Priceline wouldn't let me book for same night. I ended up getting a Hotwire room for the 1st night. $63 for Four Points Sheraton at Airport/Easton. Still need a room for 6/18. Will try Priceline again. Higher bids this time.
  12. It's at Columbus State Community College, close to 670 and near Grove St. Thank you for the great input! I will try Easton/Airport and will throw in the university area if I need to rebid.
  13. Thanks for the input! We need to be at the Small Business Development Center on Cleveland Ave. The Easton area would be close, and we'd love to shop at little while there...maybe I'll give it a whirl and hope we don't get an airport hotel. Does anyone know if the airport hotels are in a safe area and decent? We like hotels such as Courtyards, Country Inn & Suites, Fairfields, Res. Inn, Hampton Inn, etc. We don't need anything fancy (ex.no pool required)...just clean and safe.
  14. I'd go with a 3 star minimum downtown. Maybe a 2.5. But with parking fees, downtown may be too pricey.
  15. I'm traveling to Columbus, OH with my son & am looking for a safe area near downtown (dates: 6/17 & 6/18). I've heard the Easton area is nice & would like to find a Priceline deal there, but I see that Priceline lumps the Easton area with the Airport area; don't want to stay at an airport hotel. We need to be downtown on Saturday. Not opposed to staying downtown if we can get a great deal, but the suburbs are fine. Can anyone recommend an area(s) and bidding strategy? I would like to spend no more than $60 per night. Thank you!
  16. We bid $37 for a 3* in Chesterfield (got the red warning a few times saying our bid was too low; no warning at $37). The bid was declined and we were given the option of increasing our bid $10. We declined & started over 24 hrs later. This time we started at $38 for a 3* in Chesterfield. Offer was declined. Added Hazelwood zone (no 3*s there) and bid $39. The offer was accepted and we were upgraded to a 3.5* (didn't really want but got it). Got the Marriott St. Louis Marriott West for $39...$52.38 with tax. We used the PRICELINE link from this site both times. The hotel should serve our needs just fine.
  17. Greetings. Using the PRICELINE link on this site, we bid on a 3* hotel in the Westport area. We got the Doubletree for $36 on the first bid! It appears to be a nice hotel, and the kids are excited about having a pool one night. If anyone has stayed there, please let us know what you thought. Thanks!
  18. We are heading to St. Louis for a few days w/our kids over Spring Break. As a PRICELINE and HOTWIRE "newbie," I found this site to be very helpful! Using the link on this site, we bid on a 4* downtown St. Louis hotel and got the Hyatt at the Arch on the first try for $42 (hmmmm...maybe we overbid!?). I contacted the hotel and requested a N/S room and 2 beds; they felt both requests could easily be honored. I also asked about parking options, as folks on this forum said the rates were high. The Hyatt said $18 for self-park, $25 for valet. When I asked for cheaper options, they said there is parking about a block north (Mason) that is $8 (mid-week). We still need to book 2 more nights. We're open to "hotel hopping" and love the ease and deals of PRICELINE after our first success! We're spending the 2nd day in Forest Park seeing the zoo & museums, so I think we'll try for a Clayton area hotel. All the 3* hotels seem fine. Any tips re starting bids/strategy? I'm thinking $32- $33. Our 3rd night we're considering Chesterfield, West Port, or maybe St. Charles...someplace closer to The Magic House, and possibly St. Charles for shopping. Any suggestions appreciated!
