I booked this hotel while sitting in the Sugar Bowl 4 hours before midnight on the 4th. At first I was rejected $75 in the FQ, then opted for downtown as well and $85 was accepted. Pretty impressive IMO since it was the Sugar Bowl and 60k+ fans were in hotels that weekend. Renaissance is a great location (2 blocks from Bourbon St.) and it's a very nice hotel.

I too am planning my first NYC trip. This is very helpful information on where to begin.
