Hotwire 95% recommended Thanks, Dave
  2. Just wanted to close this out. I ended up not staying in a Hotwire or Priceline hotel. Thanks, Dave
  3. March 13-16, 2014 90% recommended Free Internet Pet Friendly Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant Business Center Self-service laundry $125 a night. Is this likely the Sheraton New York Times Square? Thanks for your help, Dave
  4. Hi, Brett, That seems to me like a great price for a very good place on a very busy weekend. I'm going to NYC this weekend, too. Can you possibly give us more details about how you bid before you got the W? Thanks, Dave
  5. Rebid 4* $75 USW, Rejected. Added Civic Center, $80. Rejected. Add Marina, $85, Accepted. Hotel Monaco, Union Square West. Seems like a very good price for that hotel. Yes, I did go through the PRICELINE link. Thanks, Dave
  6. I already have the Serrano for $99 a night, but I'm concerned that there are renovations going on at the hotel. The Serrano for $99 was a price they matched a few months ago when I found that price on Expedia.
  7. I don't know if this is helpful to anyone, but I'm bidding 4-stars, San Francisco, June 30th, one night. Trying to get Union Square West. Bid 4*, Union Square West, $70. Rejected. Added an area, bid $75. Rejected. Added an area, bid $80. Rejected. Added an area, bid $85. Rejected. Added an area, bid $90. Rejected. Added an area, bid $95. Rejected. Gave up. Of course, I'm adding areas without 4* hotels.
  8. 1-Bedroom Suite Fully-equipped Kitchen Complimentary Breakfast Free Parking Fitness Center Pool(s) Front Desk Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Condo Yes, I booked through the HOTWIRE link on Betterbidding.com. Thanks for your help!
  9. Tried re-bidding on Priceline three more times. Bid up to $175 (150/160/170/175) for a 4* in Santa Monica, re-bidding in Redondo, Lawndale and Culver City, and was rejected each time. Hotwire 4* for the dates never got back below $179, so I ended up booking through the Sheraton Delfina's site at $502 for the three nights ($167 + tax) through their stay two nights, get the third free offer. Thanks to everyone for their help.
  10. 4* Santa Monica-Venice-Marina del Ray, Aug. 14-17 $179 Near Beach Smoke-Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Trip advisor 3.5 out of 5 Based on 180+ customer reviews (Last reviewed June 2009) I'm assuming this is the Sheraton Delfina. But oddly enough, I can do better for those three nights by booking through the hotel's stay three nights, get the third night free offer ($502 total for three nights). Emailed Hotwire about this and their response was, basically, "Don't assume it's the Sheraton Delfina." But it most likely is, correct?
  11. Rejected again! Bid $120 4* Santa Monica. Rejected. Added Redondo, bid $130. Rejected. Added Culver City, bid $140. Rejected. Added Lawndale, bid $150. Rejected. Ran out of areas without 4* hotels and stopped bidding. I think this could be impossible unless I bid really high. But if they're offering a 4* in Santa Monica, that means it's possible to get one, right? I also just made a related posting on the Hotwire Los Angeles forum.
  12. I was bidding 4* only because the only hotel you have listed is the Santa Monica Beach Hotel, and I want to be sure I'm in Santa Monica. But that might be too risky; hotels outside Santa Monica could come up if I'm successful, correct? It seems, anyway, that nobody on this forum has successfully bid for a 4* hotel in Santa Monica for quite a while. Thanks, Dave
  13. Bid $90. Rejected. Added Redondo-Manhattan Beaches. Bid $100. Rejected. Added Culver City. Bid $105. Rejected. Added Lawndale. Bid $110. Rejected. Stopped bidding because I didn't want to go lower than 4* (afraid of getting a hotel outside of Santa Monica, which is where I want to be) and know I can get the Sheraton Delfina on Hotwire for anywhere between $119 and $133, depending on the time of day I check.
  14. Thanks for your help. I ended up booking the The Signature at MGM Grand for four nights, begnning Thursday, Feb. 22nd. Online reviews are very positive, and my average night's stay came to about $190 including tax. I booked through hotel's website, which I reached through your MGM link (although it then took me to The Signature's site).
  15. Can anyone help me identify the following hotel? Dates are Feb. 22th -25th in Las Vegas. Hotwire. Four star, Central Strip. Tripadvisor rating is 3.5/5 based on more than 300 reviews. Retail is $149. Casino Property offers a full-service casino accessible from the lobby. Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Tennis Nearby Property is located within walking distance or a short drive of at least one tennis court; an extra charge typically applies. Spa Services Guests have access to a spa facility or spa services; an extra charge typically applies. Thank you once again for your help, Dave
  16. Just to close out this string, I ended up not booking a hotel and staying at a cousin's apartment. Waiting until the last minute really got me this time. But thanks again for all your help. This is a great site.
  17. Thanks. I'll let you know how this finally ends up.
  18. I did, and they are: Beekman Tower (way on the East Side) and Best Western Convention Center (way on the West Side). Neither sound great, but they are possibilities. By the way, that Easy Click identifier is the coolest thing on your website!
  19. Very funny! :) Unfortunately, a few things kept me from finalizing my plans, so I couldn't commit to a room until yesterday. My only options now, I think, are staying at a relative's place or coughing up the bucks. I just checked EasyClickTravel.com and they came up with this: Off the Record Manhattan - Grand Central Station New York NY Usa Room Type Availability Avg. Night Rate 1 Bedroom Suite On Request View Facilities and Price Details $168.49 Book It All prices shown are in USD and does not include taxes and service fees. Also this for $129: I might have to grab something quickly. Any opinion on these two? Thanks again.
  20. Obviously, I waited too long before deciding to bid at Priceline for this weekend (March 31st to April 2nd), but here's what happened. Bid $110 for Central Park South. Rejected. Added Upper East Side and bid $110. Rejected. Added Upper West Side and bid $120. Rejected. Add Midtown West and bid $130. Rejected. Closed browser. Reopened and bid $110 for Midtown East. Rejected. Added Upper East Side and bid $120. Rejected. Added Upper West Side and bid $130. Rejected. Added Midtown East and bid $140. Rejected. Getting a little nervous now. Closed browser. Reopened and bid $150 for CPS and Midtown East. Rejected. Added Upper East Side. Bid $160. Rejected. Added Upper West Side. Bid $170. Rejected. Added Midtown East. Kept bid at $170. Rejected. Gave up, called it a night, and decided maybe I'll just sleep in the park. :) Actually, I was surprised by how Priceline allowed me to rebid. I thought I couldn't do what I did. By the way, all along the way, Priceline was telling me what I could get hotels for (about $329 a night). Why is New York so busy this weekend? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Dave
  21. Here you go: Airport Shuttle <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Pool(s) Property offers at least one pool area; hours and dates of operation may be seasonal. Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Tennis Nearby Property is located within walking distance or a short drive of at least one tennis court; an extra charge typically applies. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. Laundry Facilities <amenity names only please... not descriptions> That's it. By the way, I asked you for help with a New York City booking for the first weekend in April. Don't want you to think I've forgotten this forum. It's just, unfortunately, my plans suddenly went up in the air, so I haven't bid yet, although I anticipate that I will shortly
  22. Bid for three-stars on Priceline in Greenville, South Carolina, starting at $30 a night, May 5th-7th. Got rejected, added an area and bid $35, rejected, added an area and bid $40. Rejected. Went to Hotwire (through SavingsBarn.com), and this came up under 3-stars: This midscale establishment offers more than just the basics in style, comfort and customer service. Best Value. $47. Took it. Turned out to be the Holiday Inn at Augusta Rd. I-85. I know nothing about it, so I'll come back and let you know when I come back.
  23. I'm not entirely sure I understand "rebid zone." Should I just re-bid at the new price, or should I add a zone? It seems as if only one other zone in NYC doesn't have three or four stars.
  24. No. MTW is just a little too far from where we're going to be spending a lot of time.
  25. Hotwire prices still seem to be a little high for that weekend (maybe we're too far out), and I'm assuming that Priceline's 3-star and 4-star hotels are generally pretty good. So, I'd like to bid at Priceline for a 4-star (although I would ultimately accept a 3-star, if necessary) in either Midtown East or Upper Midtown/Central Park South, and I'd like to keep it under $150 a night, preferably in the $125 area. I'll be bidding for two rooms, checking in Friday, March 31st and checking out on Sunday, April 2nd. Can you suggest a strategy? Thanks again for your help.
