Followed exactly the winning procedure outlined by user "hubris" in an earlier post: bid San Juan area, Resort category for $110. When the bid was rejected, I upped it immediately to $111 and added the 4* category to Resorts, and resubmitted the bid. Won the Intercontinental! Woo Hoo! We have a one-night stay following a week traversing PR, and we really did not want to stay at the Caribe based on the location (not much walkable at night per reviews), though I'm sure it would have been fine. So when I saw the process by which the Intercontinental was garnered on this forum, I went for it. Bingo! Thank you betterbidding, and "hubris"! Enjoy your stay too. I got the Riverplace in Sept of 2009 bidding through HOTWIRE, it is among my favorite hotels ever. They have access to a spa/fitness center but it is offsite, perhaps a couple of blocks away, and is probably not open 24/7. I didn't use it so I don't know what the features are.
