  1. Starting bidding a few days ago and hit today at $80/night. Interestingly, Priceline just started offering an 'Express Deal' for 4* in downtown Providence at $87/night today, which I suspect is also the Omni. I've stayed at the Omni (formerly Westin) several times and consider it a solid value, so I'm quite happy with the result.
  2. Just grabbed this deal using the BB PRICELINE tool. I was honestly hoping for the nearby Renaissance Hotel which we've enjoyed in the past. We've also stayed at the Omni (when it was called the Westin) and have found it uneven at times, though since being bought by Omni in early 2013 the new reviews have been encouraging. Still very pleased with the price and hoping for the best.
  3. Got $48 on my first try. The hotel is now classed as a 2.5* (not sure if it was 3* at one point?). I stayed at the 2.5* Maron Hotel last time and was expecting to get it again so was slightly surprised by the Holiday Inn. It should be fine, reviews are similar to the Maron, and they've got free WiFi and parking.
  4. The PATH train is very close but so is all the WTC construction, might be why this hotel is having trouble filling rooms at full rate. I'll try to write a review if I get the time.
  5. UPDATE: Just landed the Millennium Hilton (Downtown) for $150 on my first try today. Something must've kicked in this morning because I'd bid on that exact same zone up to $200 for the last few days. It gets fairly good reviews and I'm sure it'll be fine for a one-night business stay. $150 for a 4* anywhere in Manhattan is pretty much a steal so I can't complain.
  6. OK, I guess the zone names would be Chelsea, Downtown, ESB, HK, MSG, MTW, TS, and UWS. Any of those would work for me. I'd rather not stay in NJ because I'm planning to meet a friend in the AM in Manhattan. I could push my $ limit a bit if needed to score a nice hotel. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the replies. I'm not too picky about the zone though I'd prefer to stick with the west side; 2,3,5,6,7,9,11,13 would all be fine I think. I'm trying to stay with 3.5* or above if possible (a good 3* would be OK too). I've tried up to $175 for a 3.5* within most of these zones already with no luck. I know the PATH system fairly well and since I'm traveling light though it might be OK. There's that shuttle bus for $15 too that leaves from Times Square. My flights not until the afternoon so it won't be a huge rush in the AM. I'd very much appreciate any tips! Thanks! :)
  8. I've been trying the last few days to find anything in the 3.5* to 4* range for $150-200 but keep coming up empty on the night of 9/26-9/27. Is this a particularly busy night in the city? I need to get to Newark in the AM so I'm looking to stay near a PATH train or west side preferably. Thanks in advance for any tips!
  9. I was gunning for this one since it's close to the Amtrak station and it's one of my favorite hotels in Providence. My bid was accepted on the first try so it's possible I could've started a few dollars lower... who knows. Nonetheless I'm very happy with the price and the hotel! :) Oh, and before you ask, I did use the PRICELINE link.
  10. Was shooting for this hotel because I really wanted the free parking. The only other 3.5* property in the same zone is the Hilton, but they seem to take higher bids, so I went low with $47. Got the Marriott on the first try. Probably should've started even lower, but I'm very happy with the price. I usually stay at the Renaissance or Westin, which are both 4*, but they don't have parking ($25/night) and I was trying to keep costs low on this trip.
  11. Tried multiple times for 3* in Danbury but wasn't having any luck in the price range I wanted. Dropped down to 2.5* and eventually hit on Maron Hotel. It gets pretty mixed reviews but I don't need anything too fancy and it has free WiFi.
  12. Thanks for clarifying that. I guess I was confused because the previous times I'd used the "extend your stay" option I had always gotten the room at the same rate - even at the very last minute. Now I know not to count on it. Still, as I said, everything worked out in the end.
  13. An update on our stay... We arrived at the Westin and without even asking were offered an upgrade to a corner King room - which we gladly accepted. However we learned the drawback to this when the next day we tried to extend our stay via Priceline. Maybe I don't understand the way this is supposed to work, but I *thought* the extend option was pretty much a sure thing, i.e. you pay the same price you paid for the previous nights. In any case, when I tried to extend the stay Priceline gave me a "we're sorry" message and indicated a room could not be found. My theory was that somehow the upgrade messed this up. Despite that snafu, I decided to just bid again in Providence and cross my fingers. Thankfully this worked and I "won" another night at the Westin for $70 this time. So in the end, I paid about $200 for three nights in a corner King at the Westin - not too bad! Hope this is useful to someone. :)
  14. Started bidding at $50 for 4* two days ago and slowly raised my amount until I hit the Westin at $60. I was really hoping for the Renaissance which I've stayed at before and love, but I guess cheapskates can't be chosers! :) Maybe if I'd waited closer to my dates I would've gotten it. The Westin isn't too shabby either, especially for $60 a night.
  15. Sorry for the late posting but I thought this might still be useful info for someone. I won this using my iPhone on an East Coast train in Scotland about two days prior to arriving in London. As far as I can tell this was an excellent rate for the hotel. The location is almost impossible to beat (London Eye right outside our window) and the hotel is very nice with spacious and comfortable rooms. A few minor complaints would include the WiFi charge of 15UKP per day (optional) and some rooms are VERY far from the elevator. Despite that I'd stay here again in a heartbeat, especially at the PRICELINE rate. :)
