  1. Very happy, i got this hotel for $89 the last time i stayed in Toronto and it was fantastic.
  2. Well i was just about to pull the trigger on the Courtyard Times Square for $217 and decided to give PRICELINE one more shot. I got the Renasissance Times Square for $220 for Sep 2 - 4, 2010. I'm happy! Thanks everyone for the advice.
  3. Thanks, i did check out Orbitz and found out about the coupon code from this board. I think i will need to think a bit harder about where we want to stay! All i know for sure is that it has to be a very short walk to TS as that's where my mom wants to stay. If it was up to me, i know there are great hotels and deals in other zones. Sometimes i hate being my family's travel agent.
  4. Hi, the Courtyard is refundable up to 7 days prior to check-in, but you forfeit one night's charge, so since we are only there 2 nights, it wouldn't be worth it to take the risk. I'm going to keep trying and keep you posted.
  5. My apologies, i got confused, lol. I used PRICELINE to purchase. Thanks.
  6. Hilton Toronto Amenities: TV w/remote, voicemail, alarm clock, iron, hairdryer, Business Centre, 24 hr Front desk, Full Restaurant, Room Service, Bellman, Concierge, Fitness
  7. It was on Easy CLick but i haven't checked today. I doubt it was refundable. And Jackie, thanks for the tip, i will try! Edited to add: i went up to $215, no luck.
  8. I could definitely go lower. I just wanted to treat my mom so was aiming for a 4*. I have heard good things about the Courtyard Marriott TS South. The location is the most important factor. We want to be able to walk to Times Square (my mom has this weird thing about cabs). I don't have a maximum bid per se. I would like to keep it around $200, but could potentially go higher if it's a great deal.
  9. They go up and down, but on Easy Click Travel and otel.com.A couple of nights ago, everything was around $200 but they change rapidly. The Courtyard Marriott Times Sq south was at $217 the last i checked, and i've seen the Excelsior for $173 (not sure if that's a 4*).
  10. I have used the bidding strategy for 2 days at PRICELINE with no success. I had gone up to $190 and still didn't win. I have found some direct booking rates for Crown Plaza etc for as low as $219 for my dates. Should i continue bidding trying to get a lower rate or just book directly? How much lower could i expect to get a 4* in Times Square for my dates? I know i have lots of time. Thanks. I should add that my zone is not flexible. I am travelling with my mom and she cannot walk very far, and we are only in NYC for one day before our cruise. The only place my mom wants to visit this trip is Times Square. We had done a lot of sight-seeing on a previous trip (staying at the Belvedere).
  11. Oops, i tried to put the date and $ in the title. $70/night, Dec 27-Dec 29/09 Never been to San Diego before! Hope this was a good choice :).
  12. First bid of $75 each night was accepted. I had bid up to $90 /night on 4* Seattle Downtown and was unsuccessful.
  13. Got it for $55 on first offer--i should have offered lower! Best price i could find elsewhere online was $153 so i am happy. First time i've used PRICELINE.
  14. Yes, i see what you are saying. I was drawn to the Belvedere mainly because of the favorable reviews/ appealing cost. For me, location and cleanliness are probably the most important factors. Amenities are not a priority. I do have to take my mom into consideration as well. I was previously going to book the Novotel, only because my sister stayed there and said it was ok. But the Belevedere had good reviews and was much cheaper. So all in all, i don't know what to do!! We are both newbies to NYC and a little worried so i thought if we could stick with an area i am *somewhat* familiar with we would do ok. We are both pretty easy going as far as expectations go--we have both stayed in fleabags motels and some of the finest hotels in Canada and find that there are more similarities than differences between them!!
  15. Well i am somewhat fussy on the location of the hotel--i would prefer to be in the Times Square/Theatre district. I am satisfied with the Belvedere reservation and would only look at cancelling that reservation if i could get a significantly better deal on a more upscale property. I am not interested in paying more than the Belvedere reservation (which is $760USD plus taxes). I am not too familiar with NYC, having only been there once last summer and i didn't get to explore much. I am travelling with my elderly mother so we want clean, safe, comfortable and relatively cheap. I am scared of Priceline only because i have never used it and have no idea what a good price/bid is for NYC hotels. From what i gather on this board, i am thinking i should stay away from the Millenium UN ??
  16. The 4* MTE has Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Tennis Nearby, Business Center (it's at $238 today). 4 1/2* MTE has the same amenities minus tennis. The backup rate for the Belvedere is $125, $155, $160, $160, $160 for a total of $760 plus taxes. So would you recommend trying Priceline?
  17. I have my airfare booked and a back-up reservation at the Belvedere which i can cancel up until the day before arrival. I am planning on checking Hotwire and Priceline continously until departure--i have noticed that checking so far in advance on Hotwire for instance has resulted in a best rate of $180 /night at 4* MTE (it's showing $188 as of today--is this the Grand Hyatt?). I have noticed that the rates are quite a bit less one week in advance of the desired 'booking'. Is this due to the season (Jan) or is this fairly typical? I was hoping if i wait until the last week before my trip i could get a great deal on Hotwire last minute (i am scared of Priceline!)
