  1. Our preferred area is ESB or MTE, and we are trying to choose wisely to reduce the chance of getting a property that we do not like (eg. St Giles, Roosevelt). I am now seeing 4*ESB for 03/16/13 - 03/19/13 @ $189 with these amenities:

    Boutique Hotel

    Business Center

    Accessible for the blind

    Accessible for the deaf

    Accessible path of travel

    In-room accessibility

    Roll-in shower

I am thinking it might be the Kitano. Do you concur? Also, do you think rates might drop later? I have booked a one bedroom suite at the Affinia Manhattan @198 as a back up. it is not my favourite location, but the price was good and with a 24 hr cancellation, I am willing to wait and keep looking for something in my preferred location.

    Thanks.

  3. I just want to let you know that I was unsuccessful in bidding for a 4* property withon our budget,,so we stayed at our backup hotel (Pod 39). In case thos property ever shows up on Priceline or Hotwire, the rooms are VERY small, but well designed and very clean. There is a really nice rooftop terrace and the staff are excellent. This property is in a great location (39th between 3rd and Lex), so all in all, if the price is right, it is a good choice!

Thanks for all your assistance, you guys rock!

  4. I will be visiting for same period (Springsteen concert). Prices seem to be going down slightly, so there still is time / hope for a good rate. When deciding on NJ vs. Manhattan, you should also factor in the cost / time of tansporation from NJ versus the convenience of a hotel in Manhattan. As a frequent visitor to the City, I find it nice to be no more than a short subway or taxi ride back to the hotel to drop off packages and rest. The convience far outways the extra cost. With proper reaearch and planning a deal can always be found!

  5. We are looking to extend our stay by one night.

I am seeing a 4* in Midtown East (one night August 31) now @184 with the following amenities:

    Fitness Center

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

    High-Speed Internet Access

    Spa Services

Is it possible that this is the Helmsley New York? If not, which one?

(Hotwire will extend our stay by the extra night @ 226, but before taking advantage of this rate, I want to also consider the offer @ $184. I called hotel directly and best rate offered is $251)

Thanks again for your help. it is greatly appreciated.

  6. HI. I just returned from spending 2 nights at the Sheraton booked on priceline. Just to warn you, the hotel is under renovations and the room booked through Priceline is for a non-renovated room on lower floors. As this was a special stay for us, I requested a renovated room/high floor and had to pay an upgrade fee of $40 per night (we always book our NYC rooms through Priceline and have never had to pay for a room request before). Also, no points for rooms booked through 3rd parties! Maybe you will be luckier! This is a really large hotel, and sometimes the staff can be quite impersonal and even rude! Check in can be a hassle, too (we didn't encounter any problems, but others did). Regardless, the hotel is in a great location - it's only a short walk to Radio City Music Hall. While you are at there, you have to have the chicken and rice from the cart at the corner of 6th Ave and 53rd St.(across from the Hilton)...the best! You will know the cart by the LONG line up (no matter what time of the day or night).

  7. Current rates for these nites are high and i think $165 may be tough at either the 4* or 3.5* levels, but we can give it a try.

At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi, Thanks for your help. I had no luck at 4*, so I repeated your strategy with 3.5*, had to go up to $190 to get New York Helmsley. It was a little more than I wanted to pay, but given the sudden upswing in hotel prices for this week end (and my last minute decision to visit), it's not too bad. I almost booked the Bellclaire (2 twin, shared bath) through Hotwire for $160. Glad I didn't, this is a much better choice.

  8. Hi,

I would like assistance in bidding for preferably 4* in MTE for 2 nights next week end (May 22,23). Last time I was successful with Hilton New York and would really like to get same hotel this time. My maximum price is $150.00 plus tax. Would consider 3.5* but would have to change location because I don't want to risk Millennium UN (too far from subway). Thanks,

  9. Just won 4* Hilton New York @ $120.00 from Feb 26-10 to Mar 1-10. We tried MTE, MTW, ESP, MSG at lower, but no luck.

We were debating about lowering the star category to get cheaper, but didn't want to risk winning hotel too far east. This was our last bid before lowering star category and it worked.

Quite pleased, because have stayed in the area on other occasions for a lot more. Last visit we booked at the Pod for $125.00 for double bunk with shared bath. I think this is a much better choice!

Yeah Priceline Name your own Bid :)

  10. Hi,

I recently won on priceline 4* Hilton New York (Ave of Americas at 54th) for $120 for Feb 26,2010-Mar 1,2010. I tried lower bids at MTE, MTW, ESB and MSG, but no luck. I also noticed on the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins there are postings for 3.5* Roosevelt @ $118. So, prices are a lot higher than last year. If you want to stay under $110, suggest you go with the sure thing at HOTWIRE with the Belvedere.

    Good luck and enjoy MYC
