  1. Kimpton Buchanan it is. I ended up doing PRICELINE EXPRESS at $158 (went up $2 since my original post). I am pleased with the result and thank you for your advice.
  2. Thanks. As an alternative, I am looking at the following two alternatives: 1) A PRICELINE EXPRESS deal of 3.5* in Japan Town - Civic Center North Area with an 8/10 guest rating and a price of $156 for the same dates (8/22 to 8/23). All Amenities: Pets Allowed Restaurant Free Internet Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities Based on a prior thread (http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=216711#comment-771749) it seems like the best guess is the Hotel Buchanan, but I just want to make sure you still think that is the case. I don't see any wins for Hotel Buchanan on this site. Any idea what else it could be if not Hotel Buchanan? 2) A HOTWIRE deal of 3.5 in Japantown Area (75% recommended, but then it says TA rating of 4 out of 5) for $157 with the following amenities: FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Airport shuttle, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Internet access, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking Wondering if you think these are the same or different hotels, and best guesses for each. Thanks as always. I will report back with an update.

  4. I ended up booking through PRICELINE, my $75 bid was rejected, then bid $80 which was accepted. It was the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, which is what I suspected..

  9. Hi all, Seeking your assistance on a bidding strategy for 4 star minimum Midtown East hotels for 10/7 to 10/12. Would also appreciate thoughts on what a realistic bid might be. Would like to bid about 200 a night.
  10. Using the HOTWIRE link on this site, your guess proved to be correct! I opted for the 5* Newport Coast-Laguna Beach-Dana Point Area hotel, and it was The Resort at Pelican Hill. The price was $253 ($297.60 with fees) for one night, 4/9-4/10. Looking forward to it. As always, thanks for your assistance.
  11. Looking for your assistance in trying to identify these two hotels for 1 night, 4/9-4/10. Newport Beach Area, 5*(listing at $226)(90% recommended) Amenities: Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Spa Services In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Newport Coast - Laguna Beach - Dana Point Area, 5* (listing at $251) (100% recommended) Amenities: Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking
  12. I bid for 5 rooms. When I called the Marriott they said I'd have to make any requests through priceline. When I persisted with them (Marriott), they agreed to note the request in the system and they sent me an email which lists the request.
  13. Using the PRICELINE link above, I ended up with a win on my first bid today at $98 plus taxes/fees-- the New Orleans Marriott. I didn't try starting with a slightly lower bid, so not sure what the magic number would have been. Now will call to request 2 double beds for the rooms.
  14. Thanks for the tips. Using the same strategy tonight, I was rejected now up to $101. I may decide to increase the budget and/or change the number of rooms to 4. I'll also be monitoring hotwire options too.
  15. That certainly helped speed things up, but I was rejected all 6 times: Using PRICELINE link above, started with FQ, 4* $70 then went up to $86 in increments using the 5 rebid zones. Will try again tomorrow night. I forgot to add this is for 5/31 to 6/3 (3 nights).
  16. Ah, thanks. I read the FAQ and now I get it. It looks like the rebids are Garden District, Metairie, New Orleans Airport (MSY), New Orleans East, and New Orleans West Bank? Just want to confirm this though before I try it.
  17. That is interesting--I wonder why. Anyway, I bid for French Quarter, 4*. No rebid zones (I am not sure of how to do that). My max bid is probably $100. After that I might reevaluate and see what other options are out there. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  18. So just an update, I bid for 5 rooms at $65 and was rejected.
  19. I saw that after I entered a bid and went to the next screen before actually submitting the bid.
  20. Just noticed on Priceline though it says this: Please enter the name of the persons who will be checking into the hotel. Each person shown below must present a valid photo ID and credit card at check-in. You must enter a different reservation name for each room. I feel fairly comfortable that the 5 names I put down will be there, but ideally I'd put the same 2 people (groom/best man) for the 5 rooms.
  21. I have decided on 5 rooms for 7 people. So using the MAPS and HOTELS.com site, the best rate I see for those dates in PRICELINE's 4* French Quarter zone is the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel: $215 for a petite 1 Queen bed room and $233 for a deluxe queen bed. Also of note is $260 for 2 double beds. Please let me know what you think would be a good bidding strategy.
  22. Thank you for the advice. I didn't realize I can list the same person for each room. In that case I'll just list the groom. He would only need to show ID and not present the credit card used to book, right? (I would put it on my card but will be arriving after everyone else). So I think I'll do Priceline. In that case can you suggest a bidding strategy for 4* French quarter for these 3 nights. And whether you'd suggest just getting half the number of rooms (3-4) as expected people (6-8) and trying to contact hotel to get 2 beds, or just getting one per person. I'm leaning toward something in the middle like 5 rooms. Since I have some time I don't mind starting at a low bid with little chance of success... $50?
  23. thereuare, I saw your comment on an earlier post that HOTWIRE guarantees quad occupancy, which I did not realize. I thought if that's the case, I might as well check out what they have to offer (using link on this site). Is the way to end up with 2 beds in each room to select 4 rooms/16 people (even though we wouldn't have 16 people?) Also, do you know if HOTWIRE makes you list the name of a guest for each room? If not, this would be ideal, as plans might change such that we would want the room to be able to be used by someone else in our group.
  24. I have been tasked with planning a friend's bachelor party in New Orleans. We expect to have between 6 and 8 people and it is 5/31-6/3 (3 nights). I know Priceline is not ideal for this kind of situation given that we could end up with 1 bed in each room (ideally we would have 3 or 4 rooms with 2 beds in each room), but I thought if I could get a $100 or less (ideally $75 or less, unless that's unrealistic) 4* French Quarter win on Priceline, that would end up being cheaper than the hotels I'm seeing on conventional sites($200-340 for the ones I've looked at such as Royal Sonesta) so that it would be worth the risk. I thought even if I got 1 room per person (6-8 rooms) it would still be cheaper than splitting rooms at full price. Or maybe I'd bid for say 4 rooms and hope to get at least a few with 2 beds. I wanted to get your advice on whether this could be worth pursuing, or if it is not worth the hassle. One concern is that it seems that I have to provide names for each room at the time of bidding. What if someone ends up not being able to make it? The rooms are non-transferable, correct? In that case, would I have any options? Any thoughts would be appreciated, including a bidding strategy if you think it could work. We're only looking for 4* in FQ. As always, thanks for your help.
  25. Thank you. Just to clarify, this was a 5* rather than a 4*.
