  1. FYI - the A and C train have MAJOR diversions this weekend - if you are coming in on the weekend, the A won't be for you since it is out of service in some parts of queens. And i would take the E over the A any day. Also, there is some availability opening up for the next few days I am seeing on hilton and ihg - so give it another try.
  2. I love this hotel - great location and such a boutique'y feeling... love the bathroom stuff too - grab some extras :)
  3. i just completed a lengthy stay at the hix chelsea (btw now called the hix madison square garden) and here are my thoughts... -- it's the largest hix and the breakfast area looks huge, but in the morning it's an absolute zoo (worst i have seen at any hix in usa or europe) -- the staff is very helpful and they even have a concierge! -- the rooms on the corners appear very small - they moved me to a handicapped room which is the largest space they have but its only a queen bed (vs a king in the other rooms) -- location is great - not awesome but great. -- if you get a room facing 28th street, there is a club where they play bass music until 2-3AM th, f, s - if you are a light sleeper you might be better asking for a room facing the front of the hotel -- the doors SLAM because they have no buffer and because people are lazy and don't catch it - several times I was woken up at 4am because of freakin morons. all in all its a very nice property and well worth the money.
  4. do you have a specific location in mind? if not, give the holiday inn express madison square garden or the holiday inn express midtown a try - priorityclub.com - i think you might be able to get in there for $120ish perhaps. They have free breakfast, great locations, free internet and free business center. plus then you wouldnt have to worry about bidding and so forth. the msg location has rooms that are a bit bigger than midtown.
  5. its back - any ideas what it is? i would love to book it the free high speed and internet makes me believe its the holiday inn on 45th but those do not have kitchenettes. thank you!
  6. is there a way to tell which one is the hilton you mention? or someone else mentioned the HI but it's sort of like hotwire as it is hidden - any help is appreciated.
  7. so far i have not heard of anything out of teh ordinary - but almost every single chain is completely booked - everything in hilton/hi/spg is gone - its scary frankly. even diamond on hilton is not getting me anything under $800. :) i may have to go to newark airport! the only thing i see signs for is the NFL draft but i cant imagine that is booking up the entire city
  8. i am in nyc now and can't find anything even remotely reasonable for that period - i need a hotel as well - right now i am booked thru tuesday but nothing after weds... almost everything is completely booked - just search on hi or hilton or spg - and prices are more insane than normal even hotwire has almost NOTHING for these days and btw the hotel mela on your link shows no availabity - so you might have the last room :)
  9. you might give dial7 a call - 212-777-7777 - for lga to manh its $35 plus toll but its a person waiting for you, a very comfortable car rather than shlepping over to a taxi and worrying about traffic moving the meter. you can try carmel as well - 212-666-6666
  10. Sorry for not coming back. - it turned out the rate that the convention got was the best possible. It was $100 less a night than the hotel web site and will be good as others are staying there too.
  11. Hi - I am looking at San Francisco for April - Union Sq East is preferred. My event is at the moscone center and this appears to be the best zone for it. Would love to spend $100 or less a night for a 4* - do you think this is possible? Thanks!
  12. I will be staying there on the $149 basically the same time as you. Not sure if you have been here before so I give you some tips... -- come out, go north half a block is goodburger - $6 for a burger that you will say is the best you have ever had. -- come out, go south one block, cross over towards 3rd ave and there is pizza -- the one on the same side as the hotel sucks. its such a great location :) and the m104 is the best bus too!
  13. thats a freakin awesome price its normally about 225 - and i want to stay there because im a platinum but of course the rate is much higher blah i wish i knew if that was the only 2.5 star so i would be assured i would get it
  14. Ok - I am attending a conference in Austin which has booked up most of the hotels near the convention center. The Intercontinental is $290 a night The HI is $209 a night A lot of the really close ones show sold out. Any ideas what I should bid? Thank you!
  15. I am guessing that $150 won't be enough and that is the week leading up to the marathon so things will be tightly booked I am sure.
