  1. I do like my in-laws!!! Also the children would enjoy showing them to the city and hanging out with them. So the strategy is to to book 2 room for two night and one room for one night. I just have to make sure that the room for the extra night is in the same hotel. The only question that remains is the starting price. Some time ago I had seen $37, but I guess that seems to have gone away. Is the following a good strategy? I have enough time to play games with pricing. Bid 3* at $46 Add 2.5* and increase to $48. Thanks Prof
  2. My need is one room for 3 nights (7/8 7/11) and 1 room for 2 nights (7/8 to 7/10) in laws). Hyatt on Hudson is perfect for my needs (sightseeing in NY). The question is whether I should bid two rooms for two nights and risk not getting a room for the last night. Or one room for 2 nights and the second room for 3 nights and risk getting one room at a good price and the second one in some other hotel. Would appreciate help with strategy. Thanks Prof
  3. I am not an expert in this area. I was just there a week ago for the first time. The hotel valet parking was about $31 per day. The hotel did not mention anything about the hotel self parking at $15. I did find a self-parking lot at $15 a day, but that was by the day. So coming in on one day and checking out the next day was $30. The parking attendent was helpful enough to suggest that the lot is open on Sunday. So no need to pay for two days. I checkded in on Friday, checkded out on Saturday and got away by paying for one night of parking at $15. Prof
  4. After 72 hours tried 3* again for $39, rejected. Added 2.5* and increased to $48. Success. Check in 2/11 for one night. $48 + $14.01 taxes and fees = $62.01 I guess the subject line can be modified to reflect the new accepted rate. Thanks Prof
  5. Ok. I will either wait for the 72 hours or I might just have my wife try again tomorrow.
  6. Thanks. I look forward to the strategy. I do have some time so I am not really worried. I will only buy my broadway tickets after the hotel room is confirmed.
  7. Added 2.5 star and increased to $39. Rejected. Added 2 Star and increased to $45. Rejected. I think I saw someone got the Hyatt for $50. I wonder if I close the browser and try again at $50 for 3*?
  8. I just tried $37 for the Jersey City (Hyatt Hudson) and was rejected. What is the next price point being accepted?
  9. I just noticed that Secaucus - North Bergen also satisfies all my criteria. Being close to NYC with public transportation.
  10. Dear Thereuare Please help with bidding strategy. We need one night on 2/11, preferably close to Teaneck (within 15 miles). We have to be in a meeting on 2/12 (11 to 3) so we want to reach 2/11 to catch a broadway show. We live four hours driving distance so we can drive back on 2/12. So we need a hotel with convenient connection subway (or bus) to Manhattan. Based on reviews, the Hudson Hyatt or the Doubletree in Newark - Meadowlands (Jersey City) seem to work fine. The other two hotels in that zone Courtyard and Candlewood also seem fine. We want to be $60 or less ($37 for the Hyatt Hudson is very attractive). Thanks for all your help last time. Prof
  11. Never mind. I just called and they cancelled my reservation with full refund.
  12. Dear thereuare Because of the snow storm, our trip has been cancellled. Just my luck, first time I try priceline and buy a non-refundable hotel room, it is not needed. Have you had any luck in getting any sort of a refund from priceline, even if it is a credit. Prof
  13. I forgot to list the hotel. It is the Radisson at Saddle brook. Although there might be a couple of hotels closer by, but this is right on the Interstate 80. I went through savingsbarn.com for the priceline bid. Thanks for all your help.
  14. I really appreciate your help. I modified your suggestions slightly and bid $49 for the Saddle Brook Hasbrouck Heights area for one night on 1/22/05. Bid was accepted for $49 Plus $14.07 = $63.07. This hotel is less than 0.5 mile of I-80. Perfect for us. Thanks for all your help.
  15. Thanks for your help. I am slowly understanding how to go about bidding and getting help from this board and bidding strategy. I am looking forward to a bidding strategy from you. Both the Teaneck Fort Lee area and also the Saddlebrook Hasbrouck heights area.
  16. I think Elmwood Park should be Ok. It is on my way back to Pennsylvania.
  17. I am going to look up a hotel in that area under your list of hotels and check with mapquest. I have no idea about that area. I will get back in a few minutes.
  18. As you suggested, I am willing to try some nearby areas. I would like to stay within about 10 miles of this marriott. I would like either a 3* or any Hilton family, Wyndham, or Marriott family hotels (even if they are less than 3*). Looking forward to your complex strategy. Thanks
  19. I will try the $55 bid and see if it works. Is the Marriott at Glenpoint possibly the only 3* in that area? Thanks
  20. Thanks for the reply. I checked on the Marriott web site and the rate varies on different days from $99 to $108. If I can get it for under $65 (including taxes and fees etc), I will be happy. I have also seen some good hotels going for $37 (before taxes and fees) on your site. I have to attend a party from 7 PM to 11 PM at the Glenpointe Marriott.
  21. I am trying to book a 3* (Marriott at Glenpoint) for 1/22 for one night, two people. I have to go for a meeting at that hotel and would prefer to stay in that hotel. However, if that hotel is too expensive, I am willing to go to Saddlebrook Hasbrouck (hoping it is not too far). I need help in figuring out how much to bid as I have not seen any posts. Also is the 3* hotel in Paramus Hackensack area quite close to the Glenpoint Marriott? Would appreciate help. Thanks Arun
