1. Wanted this hotel, and based on the fact it's the only 3.5* in this category I knew that I could get it cheaper than what it was going for on Express Deals ($65). Started bidding at $55, kept adding zones and a dollar each time and finally got my bid accepted for $60. Very happy :) Used the PRICELINE link ;)
2. Not posted on the board, so not too happy with the win. Was hoping it was the Fairfield Inn, but can live with it. This was actually a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal and not a name your own price.
3. Started bidding at $55 and was rejected. Kept adding "free" rebid zones and added a dollar each time until $58 was accepted. I think it was about $64 on express deals, and more than double booking directly, so overall quite happy.
4. I was wondering the same thing. But after some digging I think it's the Days Inn Smyrna, but not certain. If it is, the reviews aren't that great =(
5. Wow...$40 surcharge, these guys know how to milk it! Just to follow up I called PL again the next day and got routed to the Philippines. Asked to speak to someone in the US...again get transferred to another country! Anyhow, I speak to this guy for almost an hour trying to explain the situation and how this policy basically sucks. I get him to agree that usually people who use PL are looking for a deal, and then give him a scenario... that say I was bidding on a 2.5* in NYC and then I get bumped to a 4* I may not appreciate this bump if now I have to pay $$$$ parking, plus $ for internet, etc. Eventually the guy offers a $10/nt credit up to a max of $50 on a min. 3* hotel. Not quite what I was hoping for, but my friend was satisfied. Still thinking to write to the address he provided to address my issues. I think PL should make it more clear that you can be upgraded and give bidders at least the option of whether they'd want an upgrade or not. From now on, I will definitely bid with this in mind.
6. After the last Priceline fiasco of upgrading my friend from a 2.5* to a 3 I was surprised that she was willing to try again. Anyhow, so what we did this time was bid on the BUF airport zone at $48 for a 2.5* and it was rejected. Closed the window, reopened another one and added BUF Amherst and kept only 2.5* selected. Bid was accepted, but again she was sadly "upgraded" to the 3* Millenium Buffalo Airport. I was really hoping she wouldn't get this hotel, and I can't believe twice in two days priceline "upgraded" to the next star level. I need to bid on a hotel in Fort Lauderdale and this actually upsets me since I'd prefer a star category where parking is likely included (as well as breakfast). I know that many times an upgrade may be appreciated, but I can think of many times where it might not be. I read someone else's suggestion of Priceline adding a checkbox where you can select not to be upgraded. This sounds like a good idea...Priceline I hope you're listening!
7. Bid 1 $128 Wailea-Makena zone 3.5* rejected added Kihei and 4* and Resort for $130 and bid was accepted. Received the Makena Beach and Golf Resort...quite pleased! Oops..sorry title should say 3.5*
8. Thanks I'll give it a try. IN response to the PP this actually wasn't my first post, but yes, I'm sure I could be more proactive by posting my wins since I appreciate when others do so. Here are the details, so it may at least help others: BID 1 - Niagara (BUF airport) 2.5* $42 BID 2 - added Amherst (still only 2.5*) $43 BID 3 - added Grand Island (still only selecting 2.5* by closing windows each time and reopening a new one) $45 BID 4 - added Niagara Falls, NY (selected 2.5* again a by same method as previous bids) and won a 3* Upgrade for $48 So if anyone's looking a for a 3* Niagara Falls, NY my friend received the Sheraton at the Falls for $48 for Dec. 1 for one night
9. Okay, so after years of success using betterbidding's priceline strategies I convinced a friend of mine (a first time Priceline user) to bid on a hotel she needs for Niagara-BUF airport. Our intention was to get a 2.5* in this zone, so after the first bid was rejected we re-bid adding Amherst (still only selecting 2.5*). This was also rejected, so we added Grand Island and again it was rejected. All the while closing the windows and only changing the zone and not the star level. Lastly, we added Niagara Falls, NY (since supposedly no 2.5* in this category) and the bid was ACCEPTED, but we were given a "FREE UPGRADE" to a 3* in this last zone!! Oh my God, I nearly died...while the hotel itself (sheraton at the falls) is nice, it is 30 minutes from the airport and obviously does not offer a free shuttle, plus they need to be at the airport at 5 in the morning! I got her to call Priceline to complain, but to no avail =(. Anyone have any experience with something like this? I myself was planning to bid for a trip and honestly now I'm really scared as to how I bid. I'm definitely going to have be more careful about adding zones in the future. Priceline wouldn't budge, claiming this is part of their policy, but I had never had this happen to me in the past, so I was completely thrown for a loop. Any suggestions to somehow get out of this?? I feel horrible and offered to pay for her hotel, but I just wish there was a way to reverse all this?!!
10. HI All, I really need to get the Sheraton, so I need as much help as I can get!! Looking for 01/19 for 1 night. I checked a few days ago and hotwire was listing the 4* as 90% recommended and was priced at $115. Today when I check it's only 85% recommended and the price is now $119 with the following amenities: airport shuttle fitness pool restaurant business center high speed internet access spa services I noticed that someone else on the board got the Sheraton but in their description the hotel had been recommended by 90% of customer reviews. Is it better to wait, or should I try priceline? Please help...I'll be travelling with small kids and definitely would prefer to just walk into the terminal in the morning! THANKS!!
11. This is my first post, but I have been reading this forum for a while. I followed the priceline tips to a T for a 01/16/10 check in for 1 night. I wanted the Marriott and thanks to all the posts I read I got it!! I used the betterbidding PRICELINE link to start, then I bid on the zone I wanted at $47 and got rejected. Then I added another zone and raised my bid to $50 and got rejected again. I closed my browser and reopened a new one (again using the betterbidding PRICELINE link) and re-bid using the zone I wanted and a different zone and raised my bid to $52 and got accepted!! YAY!! Thanks to all of you for your very useful info!! :)
