  1. Ahh, thanks for that link. I didn't realize that that 4* showed up when searching a shorter window. This time, I didn't have the guts to wait it out any longer. Travelocity also has opaque deals- which I just discovered tonight, so I purchased a 4* in Kaanapali for $238.99/night. I was certain it was the Westin, but it turned out to be the Sheraton. I probably would have been wiser to wait longer and be more strategic. This is a lot more than I envisioned paying, but I'm sure it will be a wonderful trip-- and the deals I've gotten in the past with the help of this site certainly make it more affordable for me overall. Thanks again for the help! Should I be posting this Travelocity result somewhere?
  2. Thanks for the ideas. I would love that express deal, but I think it's a 3 star hotel for $173. At least that is what I am seeing when I check the express deals. I tried a few bids tonight, and bid up to $215 for the entire date range. Everything was rejected. I'm out of free rebids today, so I'll regroup tomorrow.
  3. Tried a few bids for compact, $18 and $22 were rejected. Priceline countered with $31. I bid $25 for an economy and it was accepted. I used the PRICELINE link.
  4. We haven't decided our max yet. I guess being at this point is somewhat unexpected, since we usually get fantastic deals. It would be possible for us to split up the trip into two stays. That is an interesting idea. What would you think would be the most likely to improve our results? Half at one place and half at the other?
  5. I started bidding for a 4* hotel in Ka'anapali about 3 weeks ago, with a bid of around $130. I've been bidding weekly, and taking advantage of 2 free re-bids. Now the trip is just under three weeks away, and I just got rejected at $185. There are no express deals that meet these criteria. I'd rather not lower my star level. With the help of this forum, I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui about 3 years ago for $140 a night, so I was spoiled by that. [i am using the PRICELINE link from this site.] Has it been others' experience that the deals improve inside 3 weeks before travel? Thanks Betterbidding!
  6. My first bid for $60 was accepted. After research, I concluded I would get either the Doubletree or the Fairmont at this price. Thanks for the help betterbidding!
  7. First Bid Accepted. Regular price was $9/day. PRICELINE encouraged me to up by bid to $10, but I didn't do that.
  8. First bid accepted. Sorry for the double posts- I forgot to split the title from the description. Nice hotel, but internet is not free, and parking is $20. Shuttle to the airport BART is convenient, but Bart fare from the airport is double what it is from the other nearby stops. Thanks Better Bidding!
  9. This hotel is fabulous!! Just got back from 6 nights there and had a great time. Partial ocean view room in the atrium tower was included in our price (18th floor). They offered us an upgrade for $50 a night to deluxe ocean view, but we did not take it. We were glad- we had a nice view from our room of the mountains, and a view of the ocean from the lanai. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway, so a better view would not have meant much. Yes, the pool gets crowded, but that's because it is the best pool on Ka'anapali beach. And "crowded" means there are people in most or all the chairs-- not that the pool itself is ever too crowded- it is not. Generally, the fact that there are other people at the pool will not bother you. Shaded spots are harder to come by-- I have fair skin, so I was out there at 6:30 a.m. the first day. This was not necessary. You can really have your pick if you get there by about 8 or so. With the time change, this should not be difficult. The beach by the hotel is not good- this is well-documented. However, it is just a short walk to one of the best beaches on the island. If you don't want to walk, you can take the free Trolley service that goes up and down Ka'anapali beach. This can take you all the way to the Sheraton/Blackrock, which is great for snorkeling. I would recommend taking the trolley if you're going that far, especially when lugging snorkeling gear. Trolley also stops at Whaler's village, where you can take the Maui bus to Lahaina for $1. If you have DVDs, a laptop and an HDMI cable, you can hook your computer up to the TVs in the rooms with ease. The clock radios have an ipod dock. My biggest tip for Maui is to stop at Costco when you arrive, and stock up on drinks and food. You can fit quite a bit in your mini-fridge. It is probably impossible not to have a great time on Maui, and staying at the Hyatt definitely helps your chances-- it is a beautiful hotel!
  10. :) UPDATE: We ended up with a partial ocean view (my husband attributes this to his charm). They also gave us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. They offered to upgrade us to full ocean view for (I believe) $50 extra per night. We declined. Our room was great, and the hotel was great. Only (very minor) complaint was that internet is not free. If you have DVDs, a laptop, and an HDMI output on your computer, bring an HDMI cable with you, and you'll be able to plug in to the TV. Clock radio has an ipod dock. Have a great time!
  11. Aloha! A bid of $13 was rejected yesterday. Site encouraged a bid closer to $22 or $23 yesterday, but I continued with the $13 bid anyway.
  12. started bidding yesterday $110 rejected, $115 rejected, $120 rejected bids today: $120 countered- asked us to bid $142, $125 rejected, $130 accepted. Thank you so much to the creators of and contributors to this forum!!
