  1. I checked Hotwire and the cheapest rate for a mid-size I was getting was $30 per day. Right now, I have a confirmed reservation with Dollar for a mid-size for $192 USD total (give or take a few dollars, depending on the exchange rate) I may try and bid on Priceline and see if they can beat that price. The challenge here is dealing with the extremely high taxes that in some cases are almost as much as 3/4 the base rate of the car. I will post my findings either way and will be sure to use the link provided if my bid successful. Thanks.
  2. FYI, for those of you who were curious, my wife and I successfully bid on this hotel back in February '08. I believe we got it for around $85 per night. We really liked the hotel. It was clean and provided everything we asked for. It didn't come with a fridge, but the friendly staff at the front desk were kind enough to have one delivered to us. Free continental breakfast was nothing too special, but had all the basics that one would expect (cereal, toast, yogurt, pasteries etc.). We had a car during our stay, but it is within walking distance of strip (closer to New York, New York side) Would definitely recommend.
  3. Hello: My wife and I are visiting family for a few days late next week in Toronto. We are in need of a mid-size rental car for pick-up at the airport (YYZ). The taxes seem to be extremely high renting from this airport...I'm hoping to spend less than $175 USD total. Am I being realistic? I am about to start bidding on PRICELINE and wanted to see if anyone here had any recent experience with winning bids at Toronto and if anyone here can offer me some tips on winning strategies. I appreciate any assistance you guys can provide.
  4. I'm looking for a 3 night stay in Vegas, off the strip. The Hampton Inn Tropicana seems like a decent place with free breakfast and free wi-fi to boot. I hadn't seen any recent bids posted and wanted to know what the best bidding strategy is? AAA rate is approx. $135 per night. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!
  5. I got it on the first try...needed something quick and easy for a trip to Universal Studios/Hollywood.
  6. Hello: Thanks for the quick reply there! I attempted to book a room at the Westin Bonaventure via all the major travel websites (Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc) but had no luck. They all say that no rooms are available. The westin website also wasn't very helpful. Expedia did have one room I think, but it was too $$$. I am looking to for something less than $125. Is that even possible in downtown LA? I saw in a previous thread of someone gettin' a room at the Bonaventure in November for $60. As I said, if not the Bonaventure, at least something that is nice and is within walking distance would also do just fine.
  7. Hello: I hope someone here can help me out...I have a family of four and we are lookin' to do some last minute traveling to Los Angeles for New Years weekend. We need a hotel room for one night (check in on Saturday the 1st, and checkout on the 2nd). Some friends of ours are staying at the Westin Bonventure. I have tried to get a room here but have had no luck. I was wondering if anyone here might be able to give me some advice as to how to secure a room here via Priceline or Hotwire? If not the Bonaventure, then anything that is within walking distance will do (3 star and up). Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks!
