  1. Ended up getting Sheraton New York Hotel And Towers for $160/night, 2 nights.
  2. Any luck with this? I need to bid for the same date/zone. I tried 4.5* up to $165 without luck. I think it's an expensive weekend.
  3. Damn, looks like labor day weekend is really expensive. I tried bidding up to $165 on a 4.5* for that night and had no luck.
  4. Any suggestions for how to bid for the upcoming labor day weekend? I'm attending a wedding where the reception is at The Wit, but the rate is $190. Unfortunately the zones in chicago are quite big (Loop and River North) that I'd consider. Would increasing the bid to 4 or 4.5* give me a better chance at a hotel closer to the river?
  5. Tried bidding on 3.5 and 4* rooms up to $95, but no wins despite seeing $75 wins on this board. Downgraded to 3* and won at $75. Possibly might have been able to get it a bit cheaper but won on the first bid. Ended up around $92 with taxes/fees.
  6. Won 2 rooms for $70 each ($85 with taxes) at a 4* Allerton on Michigan Avenue. This is for a Friday night.
  7. Yuck, so far can't get $160 for 4* in that zone, or 150 for 3.5*. My dates are fri/sat though, so a bit worse than your thurs/fri
  8. Hi all, I'm looking for some help with strategy for the 9/30 - 10/2 weekend.(sorry, topic is slightly wrong) For some reason, prices seem quite high to me. Ideally, I'm looking for something near the Chelsea/Empire State/MSG/Downtown areas, but am open to pretty much anywhere in Manhattan. (Prefer not UES/UWS though). I'm really struggling with bids, though. Yesterday, I started with a 3.5* strategy, and bid from $100 - $150 on most of the prime areas. (using rebid zones) A few questions: 1. Any idea why prices seem so high this particular weekend? Is there an event going on that I'm unaware of? 2. I'm not too picky about where in Manhattan I end up - but are any zones worse than others when it comes to being far from a subway stop? 3. On that same note, if I drop to 3* , are some zones considered better than others? Would love advice on a 3* strategy at this point. Thanks!
  9. Hi, I'm looking to book between 9/30 and 10/2 - should I follow a similar strategy? Basically just looking to find the cheapest possible hotel that is still clean / bed bug free. Which zones do you think I will have the best chance for landing a 3.5* in the $100-$150 range? Are any zones better than others for being more likely to be near a subway station?
  10. For anyone interested, thought this was a good deal: Initial bid: 4*, NMA/River north, $79, no takes Adjusted to 3.5* and $69, offer accepted. Won: Embassy Suites Hotel 600 North State Seems like a very good deal for NYE.
  11. Update: I adjusted my filters to 3.5*, and dropped my bid from $79 -> $69. My offer was accepted, and I won the Embassy Suites Hotel Chicago Downton ( 600 north state street ). Not bad overall - 3.5* hotel on NYE for $70+tax/fees.
  12. Update: Priceline rejected my $79 offer, asking to increase by $22 and try again. What's my best play at this point? Should I try a 3.5* using PRICELINE and river north/nma, or just use HOTWIRE?
  13. Good info - I'll go through this and reply back with my findings and "wins".
  14. Hi all, I'm looking for inexpensive but safe hotel for NYE in Chicago. My sisters live @ Michigan & Grand, so anything around this central location would be great. From hotwire, I see these 2 main options: 1. $79 - 3.5* Chicago Loop Hotel amenities: fitness center, high speed internet 2. $79 - 3* Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville Hotel amenities: fitness center, business center, high speed internet Any idea which these are? Other options would also be appreciated.
