  1. so i'll give my review of this hotel. for the price, it was great. Note you're getting the guest rooms, not the suites with kitchen. good 1 - great location 2 - front desk was very helpful 3 - got a great price 4 - nice bed 5 - tons of room 6 - they provided us umbrellas at the front desk. just ask! 7 - Maid service was great, always came back to an excellently setup room. bad 1 - shower pressure was very weak. 2 - around the sink / shower / toilet / corners of the room you can see things are chipping away / residue. 3 - the heater / ac unit thing was loud. Somewhat annoying to sleep with. Our temp controller was somewhat busted. The reading said it was 90, but the room felt like 67. so we had to manually control it. I will definitely recommend this hotel if you're able to score a good price. Who needs a restaurant in the hotel where there's food places around the corner. Normally when I travel, I like to stay at different hotels. If I go back to NY, I do not mind staying here again. Of course i'll have to try and bid somewhere else first, but if i'm out of luck Affina 50 it is!
  2. omg!!! I had room 201 for the night of 2/25 (but we checked in at 4pm). After we went to our room, I went back and asked to get a room on a higher floor. Nothing available that night, but a room the next day. We got 519 the next night, which had a nice large window with a decent view. They told us in the morning just pack up all of our stuff and they will move it for us while we were out sight seeing, but our stuff was still there at 8:30pm when we got back. not a problem, we moved it.
  3. just keep trying everyday at the reasonable set price you really really want to get it at. Either you win or you dont. as your date gets closer to your stay, it's time to just bump it up and get that hotel.
  4. what's the best way to get to the hotel from the airport? how much would the taxi fair cost
  5. great ty. I will get the metro card for my transportation needs. Still trying to figure out which sight seeing pass to get
  6. Hello I was wondering what I should get. first timer to NY. I get to NY on Feb 25th and thursday, i'm watching a broadway show friday - sight seeing sat till late afternoon - sight seeing free sunday to do anything go home monday I was thinking the 3 day bus hopper NY pass. but $180 per person is kinda expensive. I figured the bus would be useful to get to the attractions or will the subway work out? for sure I want to see the ESB and Statue of Liberty, everything else is a bonus.
  7. if you need to "rebid", you can 1) wait 24 hours to place a higher bid or 2) add another zone and your higher bid to your list. etc, picking a more expensive area (possibly time square??) and making a $70 bid, but you might get stuck with a hotel you don't even want. I would Play it safe and wait 24 hour.
  8. you can view my bid history here. Priceline New York City basically when I decided to give it a shot, first bid at $65 won. But do keep in mind, just as AaronJB mentioned, there is no gurantee that you will win affinia50. I kept that in mind, but took a gamble anyways. Really was a hard decision to make, because I did not want any other 2.5* rated hotel other than affinia50.
  9. I scored Affinia 50 - priceline rated 2.5* hotel for $65, but I got it for the week after yours. You can always give that a shot.
  10. bidding will have to be increased per bet. add an additional zone (with no 4*+ hotels in that location) this is to enable another bet on the location bet. then increase the bid value with it. basically that's just saying bid on my preferred location $x amount more. Keep adding zones and increasing bet value. If it fails, you can try again the next day starting at the same start bid. $105. If you keep failing, then you basically need to bid more or go down to a 3.5*
  11. I was able to score Affinia50 in MTE for $65 a night, the same exact time. (winning priceline bid) It's rated priceline 2.5* + , but on tripadvisor it's rated 3.5* and has some very good reviews. popularity of 45/412 hotels in NY
  12. hi can we move this thread into the priceline sub category? since it was a priceline win.
  13. Just got Affinia 50 for $65 a night on my first bid. dates 02/25-03/01 bid of a 2.5* + in MTE for $65 I am very happy with my win, this was the hotel I was aiming at since I couldn't score a 3.5+ for 95.
  14. my friend lives in MTE, just me and my gf travelling. yeah, I figured it was on the lower-end. I was trying to score a big bargain deal first, if not I will widen my price range. I figured I still have a while left. Thanks for the information guys, this forum is great.
  15. I know how you feel! i'm traveling around that weekend as well and havent been lucky yet. Seems like travelers with the week before and week after are having all the luck. Keep your thread updated, and lets try and get us a decent deal.
  16. what is the range for a 3.5* ? i've gone up to $95 but still not lucky enough. Do you think if I keep trying daily, I might get lucky? or just bump up my offer a little more
  17. MTE - $75 3.5*+ = failed MTE + Long Island City $80 3.5*+ = failed MTE + Long Island City + Upper East $85 3.5*+ = failed MTE + Long Island City + Upper East + Chelsea $90 3.5*+ = failed MTE + Brooklyn $95 4*+ = failed MTE + Brooklyn + Long Island city $100 4*+ = failed MTE + Brooklyn + Long Island city + Chelsea $106 4*+ = failed MTE + Brooklyn + Long Island city + Chelsea + Madison Square $108 4*+ = failed i'm still pretty new to pricelining. Am I doing something wrong?
  18. Thank you for merging the thread, thought it was more reasonable to cateogrize via priceline section and the zone I changed to for users to easily find a common thread. Yes, I followed the priceline hotel list and choose rebid zones of areas that did not have a 3.5+ hotel: MTE, Chelsea, Long Island City, Upper East
  19. I have changed my date to 02/25-03/01 and wanting to stay in MTE instead of TS. I have already booked my flights. I failed again last night up to $92. Will try again today, if it's a no go, i will try to get a 4* for $106 as others here have posted a success around the date of my travel. Any tips would be great.
  20. I decided to stay in a different zone and try PRICELINE to get a better price on my stay. Thank you for your great forum, i have learned a lot.
  21. Hello what is the best way to win a 3.5+ hotel for around $90? I have read many threads about users winning a 3.5* for only $90, however I can't seem to win one myself. What rebid zones are you trying? I have few friends in MTE, so I would like to stay in a hotel in MTE as well. I started at $80 then each day adding $5. With no luck. I have also tried $85 at MTE, then $90 with MTE and TS, still no luck. What other bid zones are you guys using? Is there ever a chance I might get a hotel in another zone (like I some how score a 3.5* in TS? )
