I live in DC area. If you don't want to drive, #5 is not an option for you. All the others are. #1 - Westin Alexandria --> Walking distance to Metro #2 - Hilton Mark Center --> Has free shuttle to Metro #3 - Hyatt Regency Bethesda --> On top of the Metro #4 - Holiday Inn Historic District --> Has shuttle to Metro #5 - Sheraton Herndon Dulles --> No Metro

I live in Washington DC area. If you want to maximize your time to see the sights but not pay the higher hotel rates downtown, stay in Crystal City, Arlington or Alexandria. At least you'll have Metro access. Dulles and Manassas are too far. You'll spend a lot of time sitting in traffic.
