  1. 'awk316' I travel to SFC allot and use betterbidding link / PRICELINE and have never once has a bad experience (I have stayed at about 10 different 4 star hotels that cost from $65-$95. Experience has taught me this, that , while I have fretted and got all worked up about bidding about getting this hotel or that one and tried to save $5 or $10 ...it was usually was for nothing because no matter what I got it was excellent and the savings HUGE. The downtown area of San Francisco is so excellent and small, I found every single hotel's location allowed for easy access to everywhere. Also, IMO, I find the trip advisor negative reports misleading and full of whiners for the most part. Best of luck winning a hotel bid on your own terms :-)
  2. I would avoid this hotel, The Hyatt , in the future unless it was the only practical option. 'Sad' tired hotel, the room windows do not open, and it just feels and smells old. I don't want to exaggerate and say that it was a torture but I am so spoiled by the hotels I have won over the years through betterbidding and Priceline - it is hard to accept less. I could not fill my Saturday night with a Priceline bid (it was a busy weekend of weddings and conferences I was told) so I ended up just booking (the old fashioned way) a boutique hotel called The Hotel Metro on Madison Avenue for $140.00 (plus tax) which was extraordinary. The other two inexpensive nights I won on Priceline and betterbidding made this deviation from internet bargaining not sting as much. Actually I haggled there as well and the person ended up giving me a "corporate rate" at $140 down from the initial $250 Hotel Metro person quoted me.
  3. Got it on the first bid, and used the better bidding PRICELINE link :) Yay me! Seems like a not too bad price. Check-In Date: Sun, Oct 4, 2009 / After 04:00 PM Check-Out Date: Mon, Oct 5, 2009 / 11:00 AM Hilton Milwaukee City Center Milwaukee Downtown 509 W Wisconsin Ave Per Night: $50.00 Subtotal: $50.00 Taxes & Fees: $14.60 Total Charges*: $64.60
  4. I just realized that I did not use the better bidding links to get to PRICELINE! Itis has been a while since I used PRICELINE and it slipped my mind!! Darn. Will do it right in a way that supports the better bidding board next time!
  5. Hyatt Regency Milwaukee 333 West Kilbourn Avenue Milwaukee, WI 53203 Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $45.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $45.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $13.80 (USD) Total Room Cost: $58.80 (USD) Got it on the first bid. I tried to get 4* hotels downtown up to $90 but no luck so I went to 3* at a # I knew I would get since it is days away! oops forgot "Hyatt Regency" in the post's title!
  6. Toronto has a plethora of 4 star rebid zones but I did not need them....I got a great hotel for $65 on the first bid. Hilton Toronto Downtown Toronto 145 Richmond Street West Toronto, Ontario M5H 3M6 Check-In Date: Thu, May 8, 2008 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, May 9, 2008 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night:US$65.00 Subtotal:US$65.00 Taxes & Service Fees:US$16.36 Total Charges:US$81.36
  7. $71? well I jumped the gun on $85 for my other nights. I bid $65 rejected, $69 rejected (and Priceline counter offered me a hotel if I added $17 to my bid) As if! I then I bid $71 and that bid was "ACCEPTED" < love it when I see those words! $71 - what a great price for downtown SFC! Hilton San Francisco Financial District Union Square East - Embarcadero 750 Kearny Street San Francisco, California 94108 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $71.00 Subtotal: $142.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $28.81 Total Charges*: $170.81 Went through savingsbarn.com link to access Priceline naturally!
  8. [error in title - hotel was won at $85.00, NOT $90] going through savings barn link, of course, this is a must! 1st bid of $85 accepted. Should I have started lower, what's the diff! Not a greatest superbest area but decent digs for two nights! Hilton San Francisco Financial District Union Square East - Embarcadero 750 Kearny Street Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $85.00 Subtotal: $170.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $33.17 Total Charges*: $203.17
  9. I ended up getting a Compact car (Toyota Corolla) and AVIS only charged me $9 a day, with GPS and insurance my total bill for 3 days was $73!!!!! Wicked good deal.
  10. In my haste, I neglected to use the savingsbarn link, my bad! Next time. I bid $10 , $11 and $12 three days in a row and was rejected. It was my first time renting a car on Priceline. Not as much savings as the hotel game. :-( For the unknowns it does not seem worth it. I still used the BetterBidding message board to guide my bid and apprciate it and Priceline. But anyway, having a car in Los Angeles for a change will be sweet! I bid $13 and got a car: Avis Rent a Car LOS ANGELES AP CA 9217 Airport Blvd Total Rental Days: 3 days Subtotal: $39.00 Taxes and Fees: $26.86 Total Charges: $65.86 Lowest Published Price: $101.97 Total Savings:* $36.11 (You saved 35%)
  11. I want to add that my initial bids were $70, $75 and $80 and they were were rejected, $85 was accepted. And It is pretty good to get 5 nights in the same hotel at this price.
  12. Going through savingsbarn.com used 3 rebid zones a good hotel - i am happy with the win. Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles 6101 West Century Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90045 Thu, Feb 7, 2008 Wed, Feb 13, 2008 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night:$85.00 Subtotal:$510.00 Taxes & Service Fees:$83.70 Total Charges*:$593.70
  13. Going through savingsbarn.com (of course, of course, of course) First bid of $95 was rejected and Priceline counter offered a free rebid if $22 dollars was added to the bid. I rejected Pricelines offer and used a free rebid zone upping my bid to $100 a night for the two nights I was seeking and it was ACCEPTED. I am not thrilled with the Nob Hill location but the hotel looks pretty swishy and price I won seems not bad. (Lowest price on the Inter-Continental Mark Hopkins website is $229. per night). Good savings! Thanks better bidding for this great message board! Priceline rules! Mark Hopkins Intercontinental Union Square West Number One Nob Hill Check-In Date:Mon, Jan 14 Check-Out Date: Wed, Jan 16 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $100.00 Subtotal: $200.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $38.18 Total Charges*: $238.18
  14. through savingsbarn.com link naturally! won this Hotel on the first bid. In my experience Sundays are usually pretty easy catches in this price range! Hilton San Francisco Union Square West Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night:$80.00 Subtotal:$80.00 Taxes & Service Fees:$19.26 Total Charges :$99.26
  15. Ya , not a great win but not a bad win either. I could have booked this hotel directly for $169 ..... But that is priceline, sometimes you save hundreds!! other times not that much, but over all PRICELINE and this betterbidding board has saved me thousands of dollars and allowed me to stay in swanky opulant downtown hotels in many cities in the US and Europe, I would not otherwise have been able to afford or just would have been unwilling to pay! Thanks!!
  16. Going through the savingsbarn link I used ALL the 3 rebid zones for the USW 4 * ZONE First bid $87 was rejected Second bid $90 was rejected Third Bid $97 was ACCEPTED Renaissance Stanford Court Union Square West California Street At Powell Street San Francisco, California 94108 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night:$97.00 Subtotal:$97.00 Taxes & Service Fees:$22.29 Total Charges*:$119.29 Not thrilled about being on Nob Hill coz the walk to the city but it is pretty nice!
  17. My brother just won this Hotel stay for $110 on Priceline (I don't have the usual details - he is not a member of the board, but I wanted to post his win. He did not go through savings barn booooooo. I do know he inched his way up through rebid zones, was rejected at $105 and accepted at $110. Great win, really fabulous hotel! I will school him about this board another day!
  18. 2 nights at the Inter-Continental ! Place looks preettee swish! Excellent! And right downtown Chicago! Went through Savingsbarn link (of course!) and lobbed my bid of $100 out there - and it was Accepted. Bidding on short notice, and with only one rebid zone, I started high ( it was not a time for messing around to save ten bucks! ) Intercontinental Chicago North Michigan Ave - River North Area 505 North Michigan Avenue Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night:$100.00 Subtotal:$200.00 Taxes & Service Fees:$39.59 Total Charges*:$239.59
  19. Sorry to belabour this point (especially if i am wrong!!) , but I went on the HOTWIRE message board and the wins all seemed way higher then the PRICELINE wins, what am I missing? Has anyone ever won a hotel cheaper on HOTWIRE then the best wins in PRICELINE? I just don't see any evidence of this from my skiming of both boards.
  20. THANKS Blindman! Will consider all the above! I am aiming for a sweet USW property in the $95 range no matter! Got royally spoiled in recent visits with the Westin St. Francis, Nikko and some others all won under $90.
  21. meh! I am not a HOTWIRE guy! You ever got 4* Hotels in San Fran under $80 on HOTWIRE? I just thought HOTWIRE was like Expedia - same high no bargain prices! Am I wrong?
  22. Starting at $70, using rebid zones and inching my bid up to $90 and still rejected for this one night , I am wondering, is the night before New Years Eve a busy time for hotels? Might it be impossible to get a 4* San Francisco in the USE, USW zones for this date under $100?
  23. Oh I see you are staying there around the same time as me! No that area is awesome - really beautiful. It is just that I am partial to being near or right on Union Square (creature of habit)!, and it is a long walk up market street to Union Square area! The hotel we are in looks awesome though! Never stayed there before, and I am looking foreward to that. I will be asking for a room upgrade! Thanks for asking! MAYBE we will pass in the lobby as you are leaving!!! Have a great stay!
  24. going through savingsbarn link of course! - and preceded to bid in USW $65 rejected, then added USE and bid $70 and was ACCEPTED . Not thrilled at being down by the Ferry Building but it is a decent price (half what the web site is offering). It is Christmas Eve AFTER ALL - the place will probably be empty!! Whoever is there...we will all have a wickedly awesome time! btw: Big thanks to this message board! I would have bid more but I saw other wins in this price range! Hyatt Regency Union Square East - Embarcadero 5 Embarcadero Center San Francisco, California 94111 Mon, Dec 24 - Wed, Dec 26, 2007 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $70.00 Subtotal: $140.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $29.46 Total Charges*: $169.46
