After 4 tries at a 3.5* central Asheville hotel on PRICELINE with a top bid of $82 and 1 attempt at a 3* with a top bid of $70, I opted for the best HOTWIRE choice; the 2.5* Guesthouse Inn (guessed it would be this property based on a comparison of amenities with the list here). Pretty well reviewed on Tripadvisor. Other choices were too dicey or too pricey. Used the BetterBidding link to HOTWIRE.
I tried again today just for grins and failed right up to my limit.
I will give it one more go that morning and see if anyone's desperate enough to fill a bed.
Final attempt:
Used the BetterBidding PRICELINE link.
Followed the same pattern. Started at $67 and finished at $76. Fail.
Looks like 2 seats at Neyland Stadium for UT/UK the following day.
Probably stay home and spend the $70 on football tickets. ;-)
We visit Asheville regularly and will do so the day after Thanksgiving. A room allows us to have a nice dinner and drink too much wine without worrying about the 90 mile drive home.
I did get an email from PRICELINE indicating someone had scored a downtown Asheville 3.5* for $70. The implication is that they were looking at the same night. I will use the BetterBidding PRICELINE link tonight and find out for sure.
Used BetterBidding PRICELINE link
Started with 3.5* downtown $46
Added airport $50
Added biltmore $54
Added west $60
Added east $65
Failed on all tries. Will try again, but the upper limit isn't much over $70 and I don't want anything outside downtown or below 3*.
Used BetterBidding PRICELINE link. Started at $45 for a downtown 3*. Added Hixson and raised to $52. Added Ringgold and raised to $59. Added South and raised to $66. Added Lookout Mtn. and raised to $72. Dropped out. I had been hoping to score the Sheraton Read House. Might be Labor Day weekend making things tough.
I'm considering whether I want start over at 2.5 stars and try for the Chattanooga Choo choo Holiday Inn. I still have a few days.
I paid $65 for the La Quinta Inn & Suites. Amenities listed were smoke free rooms, pool, fitness center and business center. The property is not smoke free, however 3 floors out of 5 are. The pool is outdoors. Although not listed, there is a free breakfast.

Used BetterBidding PRICELINE link. Started @$60, added Longmont and went to $75, added Louisville and went to $80. Appears to be in line with what others have posted. Hotels.com would have sold me the room for $189.
