Well, after all this, we wound up booking The Pavillion hotel at a special rate that is not much more than the Hotwire deals were looking at. Based on the research for the likely hotels we'd get, we decided to go with knowing the hotel ahead of time, rather than take our chances. Thanks for all your help on this.

So, the hotels around Medford were high. Tried this area, starting at $50, inching up until PL urged me to bid $64. I declined, bid $53, then $55, which was accepted. Very happy, as its just an overnight trip to move furniture for my son and I really did not want to pay the $150 - $200 our regular places wanted. Used your PRICELINE links, as always. $55 + 14.33 = $69.33

Wound up waiting a bit too long for this and watched prices begin to rise and the Best Western Tria (which was a bit less on Hotwire) become unavailable. Still beat the best rate available from hotel, so that's a win overall. Plus, we like this property and have stayed here often as it is closest to the Tufts campus. I tend to avoid Priceline Name Your Own Price, however, because I want to avoid "winning" the Holiday Inn Bunker Hill, which is in the same zone and star level. but that property was fully booked, so I felt pretty confident of getting the Hyatt., Price.line also tried to get me to up my bid by $35 but I rejected the opinion and added $5 instead.
