  1. I went out on a limb after several unsuccessful bids in the $50 range. Residence Inn is a fairly new property in Columbia and not listed on the Missouri Priceline hotel list. I definitely can't complain as this is around 50% off best available rate for the property!
  2. Can't complain at all seeing as how the lowest Internet rate was $159. Thanks for teaching me how to rebid!!
  3. Any suggestions out there? I need to get to making these reservations soon. Thanks in advance.
  4. I actually just got confirmation late last night that I will definitely be making the trip.
  5. Yes, my plans are 99% firm. If I make the trip it will definitely be on those dates. On Hotwire the amenities are as follows: 2* - Suite, Laundry 1* - Pool, Restaurant, High-Speed Internet, Golf Nearby 2.5* - Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, High-Speed Internet, Golf Nearby It also looks like the prices for each went down a few bucks ($35, $32, $79, respectively). Also, for what it's worth, I went to undergraduate in Columbia so I know the area and the hotels VERY well.
  6. Thank you for the advice, but I didn't end up taking either trip. My appointments were moved to a venue closer to home and the Chicago leg of the trip were not necessary. Thus the lack of a response.
  7. I am looking for a 3* or 2.5* hotel in Columbia for 10/29-11/1. I would love to pay $50 or less a night. Hotwire has a 2* suite for $36, a 1* for $33, and a 2.5* for $83. The 2* is appealing if it is either the Candlewood or Baymont, but I'm worried it might be Extended Stay and I'm not a huge fan of ESA. Any advice would be great.
  8. Threads have received a response. And responses of no help whatsoever as I ended up finding alternate ideas from priceline and hotwire. Bumpity bump bump!
  9. Another belated response: I ended up going through Expedia and finding a hotel I knew for sure in the Lee's Summit area (Holiday Inn Express) and paid $80 a night (if I remember correctly).
  10. A much belated response: I ended up finding a wonderful friend that allowed me to stay at her place rather than worrying about a hotel at all. Good luck with all the other bidding in Manhattan and/or New Jersey! Prepare to give your kidney(s)! :-)
  11. I am going to be in Chicago on business on two separate occasions for one night each. The first is Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th. The second is Sunday, November 26th and Monday, November 27th. I am going to be driving into the area, so staying outside Chicago is not a problem at all. I also have no preference as to star rating (obviously the best deal is best) as I basically need a bed and a shower. Hotwire has some good deals near the airport, but I would PREFER something away from O'Hare, but will take it if that's the best deal. Tips on how much to bid in the various areas in and around Chicago?
  12. After bids and rebids of $27-35 Congratulations, you got your price of $36 for a 2
  13. Would it be cheaper and easier for me to fly into Newark if I were to stay in the Meadowlands? The flight prices to Newark are the same as LGA and JFK. Right now the hotel in Meadowlands (an ExtendedStay America) is running for $54 on Hotwire. I know there is a bus that picks up right outside the hotel. How difficult is the bus travel -- either all the way into the city or to the NJ Transit or PATH train -- for a first timer. I know the NYC subway system extremely well, but I have never traveled on the buses, NJ Transit, or PATH. What do you think my options or bidding price should be for the same or better hotel in Jersey City or Secaucus? Thanks again for the help.
  14. Thanks so much for the quick response. I am going to be flying from Indianapolis into New York. I would be more than happy to fly into any of the local airports (JFK, LGA, or Newark). As far as renting a car goes, what I was referring to was renting a car in New Jersey and staying in a hotel that might be away from the PATH or NJ Transit stations. As far as getting in and out of the city goes, I will need to be in the city for those meetings each day (7th, 9th, 10th) for a very short period and wouldn't necessarily need to come back. The earliest meeting I have is at 10am on the 7th. The other meetings are after noon on the 9th and 10th. Thanks so much for the help and this amazing site!
  15. I am in desperate need of some bidding advice for the week of December 6-11. I need to be in NYC for several short business related events the 7th, 9th, and 10th. Obviously being HUGE shopping season hotels are through the roof. I am a poor college student that is in need of hotels preferably cheaper than $100. New Jersey (I know of Jersey City, but if it is safe and possible to commute from places like Secaucus, etc. that is definitely an option), renting a car is also an option. Any option that will get me in and out of the city for less than the $1,000,000 a night the hotels have been jacked up to over the years. Any tips, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated. If needed I can provide more information about my situation.
  16. No, because my plans have changed. Rather than staying in the Country Club or Crown Center areas I am going to be staying in Lee's Summit. Any advice for that area?
  17. What do you think? Lees Summit, MO (4/13-4/17) Hotwire only has one hotel for $59. I know there aren't many hotels in the area, so getting one for relatively cheap shouldn't be a problem. The nicer, the cheaper, the better.
  18. I am going to be in the KC area for a wedding from the 13th of April through the evening of the 16th. I haven't really done my homework yet, but I know how great this site is about that. I'm looking to pay less than $50 a night for a 3* or 4* at either the Plaza or Crown Center , with Plaza being more preferable.
  19. I just wanted to give everyone an update on what came of my bidding saga. I was unable to get a successful bid at any of the locations for a decent price. I did, however, manage to secure a $199 rate at the Hyatt in Jersey City through Orbitz. After talking to thereuare he mentioned Hotwire's "Double the Difference" guarantee might be an option, as their rate was $241. Indeed he was right...so...after my $84 rebate I managed to secure a room at the Hyatt in Jersey City for the grand total of $194 after tax. Thanks so much to everyone for the help and especially to thereuare. I'll try and post my own little review after I return.
  20. To continue with the saga... I went ahead and secured a $199/nt. room at the Hyatt in Jersey City through Orbitz. The main reason I took it was because it also included breakfast for two in the hotel and 2 PATH tickets to NYC. Now, because I'm locked in safely this high I'm looking for something in the city. Any tips on where I might be able to find something through Priceline in Manhattan for less than $199?
  21. I am having the absolute worst luck! I tried the Brooklyn idea, which seemed like a great idea. I went all the way up to the $100 level at the 3* and still got nothing. I'm going to look through and see what the 2.5* hotels might be in the area and I might try those.
  22. Okay...change of plans... I am planning on flying in on the 10th, staying one night, and leaving on the 11th. I made bids as high as $85 for a 2* and all were rejected. Looking on the Candlewood Suites site (the only 2* listed here) they are sold out that night. That leaves the Hyatt, Doubletree, and Courtyard, all of which had availability. How high do you think I need to go in order to get a room?
  23. 12/10-12/11 Bid- 3*@$37-rejected 2.5*@$45-rejected 12/11-12/12 Bid- 3*@$60-rejected 2.5*@$65-rejected I'm not terribly worried about the 12/12-12/13 reservation because those hotels seemed to be relatively normal everywhere. Any other suggestions?
  24. Uh oh... I went up to $50 and a 2.5* level and still no takers. From what I can tell on other websites it looks like the Hyatt is booked on the 11th and 12th, but Orbitz still has rooms available for it on those dates. I know I still have a while before I travel, but seeing as how rooms seem to be filling up I'm starting to feel a sense of urgency. Help and suggestions please?!?
