  1. we will be in Puerto Rico for an anniversary trip from 4/29 - 5/3/10. intercontinental OR el conquistador, better location; how to win these i was oringally looking at staying in San Juan, but I found out about the El Conquistador. Both properties look very nice. Based on my itinerary below, which would be the best place for us? arrive late at night day 1: Snorkel tour/Fajardo day 2: OSJ/Forts day 3: El Yunque depart early that next morning Also, I'd like to spend no more than $129/nt - is that a possibility? I've looked at the boads on HOTWIRE, but I don't see the El Conquistador listed right now. Could that change in a couple of weeks (likelihood)? I've looked at PRICELINE, but I am afraid to bid on PRICELINE and get stuck with El San Juan as a resort -- really don't want that one. HELP :) thanks so much. My hsuband and I haven't taken a trip alone in about 5 years so this will be a treat for us!!! :)

  3. UPDATE... We just got back from our stay at the Hyatt (won on hotwire). LOVED our stay!!! Loved loved loved the Hyatt. I feel very fortuante now to have won that bid for such a great price!!!! The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and while there is not much beach there, it is absolutely in a perfect location and the loss of actual beach did not hamper our stay in the least. We could easily walk down the beachwalk to beach when wanted - very short stroll down beautiful walkway. We still sat in our lounge chairs oceanside and watched the surf and unbelievable scenary - and even whales - pass us by! We could not have been happier with our stay on Kaanapali than at the Hyatt !!! We would absolutely stay here again!
  4. Just returned from Dec 1 - Dec 5 stay ... LOVED the Hyatt Regency. The grounds are WONDERFUL. Service was always cheerful and very good!!! We did not eat at any of the restaurants, however, so cannot comment on that. The room was a good size and we were in the mountain/golf room - with a slight view of hte ocean and the laua area. The room has a nice walk-in closet and we enjoyed the VERY comfy beds!!!! Very comfy! The pool area is very nice. No there is not much beach there, but that was never a problem for us. You could easily walk down 100 feet and find some beach - but the pool area was always so inviting that we used it quite a lot. There were always plenty of chairs (even chairs with shade) available. I'm sure this had to do wiht the fact that it was off-season, but we loved it!!! There was a mother whale and her calf go by in the channel in front of the hotel. The walk to Whaler's Village is not too far and the walk along hte beachwalk is beautiful. If you go there for dinner/shopping and are too tired to walk back, they have FREE shuttle service for the hotels on Kaanapali. AMAZING views from this hotel. I would absolutely stay here again. I won the bid for it on priceline and was really hoping at the time for the SHeraton (and was a tad bit disappointed at first) - until I got to Maui and enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt. We went down to black rock for snorkeling one day and walked through the Sheraton grounds -- the Hyatt is definitely better in our opinion. We were VERY happy we had won the priceline bid for the Hyatt in the long run!!!! I am SOOOO ready to return ... need to start saving those pennies (er, DOLLARS) now !!! :) Aloha
  5. Here are the amenities listed on my bid: Resort Beachfront Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Spa Services Children's Activity Program I appears Hyatt no longer has the "ocean front" part to their list of amenities -- only "beach front". harder to distinguish between them and sheraton and westin now. :) yes, i did use your HOTWIRE link.
  6. I just booked via HOTWIRE for Hyatt on Kaanapali for $149/nt (total with taxes $704). it DID NOT state "ocean front" any longer on the amenities - only BEACH FRONT. I was thinking I was going to get Sheraton but it fooled me with not including theh "ocean front" part on amenities section - SO BEWARE. I was REALLY wanting Sheraton so I am a little disappointed, but I hope it will turn out okay. Does the beach walkway go all the way to the Hyatt? Can we walk to Whaler Village from Hyatt?
  7. It is about a $15/night difference in the two. Yes, the only difference I could tell was the first one noted "ocean front" whereas the last one did not - and only noted "beach front". What is the difference in ocean versus beach front??? (rather confusing). :) I would really rather have the Sheraton or Westin versus Hyatt, but I suppose the Hyatt would be fine (just farther down that I wanted from Black Rock and Whaler's Village). Thanks again for your help - greatly appreciated.
  8. I apologize - I didn't realize to do that. How does it differ? - lower price, this one does NOT state "ocean front" like the other (it just states "beach front") Can you determine which resort this is? Thank you for your help - ap

  11. This is what it says on Hotwire: 4-star hotel in Ka'anapali This hotel features the following amenities: Beachfront Property is located on the beach. Oceanfront Property is located along the ocean, but not directly on a beach. For example, the hotel may be situated on a bluff along the coastline. I have looked at the list of Hotwire 4* resorts you have listed and the only one I could think would be on a cliff would be the Sheraton. Do you think this is the Sheraton based on the above description? Thanks for any help. ap
