  1. Hey, thanks for the restaurant recommendation! We are going to do a couple nicer restaurants but always need a good, fresh meal alternative. You can only take so much Chicago pizza. Trying, very hard to get a reservation at the Girl and the Goat. Might have a table, using my husband's 50th birthday and they are working on it. Also saw great reviews for the Publican. Both on the higher end but not the $50 a plate swanky restaurants.

    Check out http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/the...d-winners-.html

It lists the Michelin Bib Gourmand winners for 2010. Basically good, cheap (er) eats!

  2. Parking at Palmer House Hilton, whopping $61 a night!! Even if we wanted the car (and who would in Chicago) and left the lot and re-entered we would still be ahead. Even if we took a cab to and from the lot (again, who would it is only 3 blocks) we would be ahead. I have used this lot when staying at another hotel in Chicago, farther away so we did taxi from lot to hotel but still waaay ahead on price.

Done this many times before in other cities, husband drops me at hotel with bags, I check in, get the bags to the room and make sure all is well. He parks and by the time he is back I have unpacked and have the room to the temperature he likes, win-win for all :)

  3. 4* Chicago (Millenium-Loop-Grant Park) Palmer House Hilton, $85 ... 9/1/11-9/5/11

Tried to get a hotel for 9/2/11-9/5/11 and bid several times through multiple accounts and attempts starting at $75, finally Priceline came back to me at $121 per night for three nights. Checked the price on Hotwire (used your link for all the searches on multiple accounts and servers and the purchase) for four nights and the price dropped dramatically. Got 4 nights cheaper than they were offering me three nights for and waaaay cheaper than 3 nights on Hotwire.

Chicago Jazz Festival is just a couple blocks away from the hotel. I love the Palmer House Hilton (stayed there before). Very happy. We'll just drive in Thursday night late and fall in bed exhausted :)

Anyone have ideas for the best parking garage (safety/price) near the Palmer House Hilton?

Wooo hoo, Chicago for Labor Day weekend!!!!!!

  4. Got what I expected. Not a great hotel but a great price. Discount, pay ahead price on their website was $45 a night so still a savings. Doesn't look like a 3* hotel but Trip Advisor comments included CLEAN and it was cheap so I bought. Also on Trip Advisor the management frequently responded to ratings so I took this as a good sign that if there were issues they would deal with it.

It's Williamsburg, are you really going to sit in your hotel?

I am sure I could have gotten this cheaper on Priceline but wanted to ensure that I got the Gunter, love the history and location. Great Hotel! Used your link of course!!!

  6. I am trying to book a hotel in Columbus. I think I may use HOTWIRE even though they are generally more expensive as I need to guarantee 3 people in the room. I am looking at the Worthington area at 3.5*. How can I tell if I am getting the Crowne Plaza or the Sheraton? It says 3.5-star hotel in Worthington

    Fitness Center

    Pool(s)

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

    High-speed Internet Access

It also says it has a 85% recommendation rate.

If I am going to end up with the Crowne Plaza I'd rather bid via PRICELINE for $10 a night less but I do need the two beds or the king with sofa sleeper.

    Any suggestions?

PS - of course I always book through you :)

  7. I am wanting to stop in St. Louis for a couple days in March (19-21). Hotwire is $59 for a 3* and $109 for a 3.5*. I'd really rather not pay that much but will be traveling with two college aged daughters and possibly a husband. Can I risk using Priceline and booking one room? I know in many other cities all the hotels seem to have at least a two bed option, seems like downtown st. louis 3.5-4* hotels have two beds. What do you think?

  8. Just booked (through your site) on HOTWIRE for two nights in Chicago for 3 adults at $63 per night. December 10-12.

Seems like a nice boutique hotel and the free breakfast in Chicago and feeding two hungry college aged girls is nice too!

  9. I booked with Priceline for September 16 for one night. Got the Crowne Plaza St Louis-Clayton at $45 a night plus fees and taxes. Parking was $6. Do not pay at the garage, the hotel will give you a voucher for the $6 reduced rate.

Checked in and I was booked into a smoking room even though Priceline states all rooms are non-smoking. No problem to book me into a non-smoking room. I had my choice of floors. My room was a bit weird shape but large enough and felt a bit like older european hotels. Marble bathroom. Incredibly comfortable bed (I slept in a extra hour) with 10, yes 10 pillows all to myself!

    Hotel staff was very friendly.

Ice was on a different floor and I room could have been a bit more soundproofed as I could hear conversations in the hall. It was still quiet but a bit disconcerting that I could hear their whole conversation.

All in all a great room for a stopover night on a long drive for less than the Motel 6 in St. Louis!

  10. I booked on HOTWIRE 3.5* Worthington Area Hotel for September 13-16 and got the Sheraton Suites Columbus on Hutchinson Avenue.

Paid $44 per night plus Hotwire's fees and applicable taxes.

Fab room with one king bed ($30 extra to upgrade to two queens) and a sofa bed. Two LCD TV's, granite bathroom, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Great place for my daughter and I as we each had our own room (I took the king bed!). Hotel had free internet in lobby as well as a bank of computers and a printer that was free. Yes, the color printer was no charge.

The lounge has great game-day specials and we got a dinner (potato skins, wings, etc.) for less than $5 each and quality beers for $2 and they packaged them for us to take to our room. The specials are anytime a football game is on.

One woman I met in lounge had paid only $35 on PRICELINE but I was still happy. Also, I felt very safe parking even at night and as a woman travelling alone/with daughter.

Lots of great restaurants within 5 minutes of hotel, I'll be using HOTWIRE for this trip next time I pick my daughter up at college.

  11. I am looking on booking a hotel for a quick trip for me and my two adult (well, college age, they at least think they are adults) daughters. I was looking at HOTWIRE (since Priceline can't guarantee me a 3 person room) for December 11 - 14 (3 nights). I had picked the Magnificent Mile area and the 3* hotel I I think you can't beat $65 a night for Chicago for 3 adults.

    The description was:

3-star hotel in Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville

This hotel features the following amenities:

    Complimentary Breakfast

<amenity names only please... not descriptions>

    Business Center

Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply.

    High-speed Internet Access

Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.

    Any idea which hotel?

    Thanks -

PS - promise I will use your HOTWIRE link to book!

PPS - I recently booked a few nights through both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE (before I found your forum). Should I post my experiences? How do I do it?
