  1. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites- Walker, MI

Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Business Center, Laundry Facilities, High-speed Internet Access

The amenities matched the ones listed in the package for Grand Rapids. I was trying to get this hotel and was happy that I did. I have not stayed here before. Last time we stayed in the Residence Inn in Grandville which was fine, but I decided to try something different.

  2. I am not sure where this should be posted.

This week I noticed that the previous South Beach area has been split into 2 areas, South Beach Ocean Drive and Central South Beach.

I also wanted to warn people that there is a new area called South Beach Oceanfront - Collins that consists of an area that I personally do not consider south beach. It is east of Washington and between 15th street and 22nd street.

  3. Residence Inn Milwaukee Downtown

    648 North Plankinton Avenue

    Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53203

    Suite

    Smoke Free Rooms

    Complimentary Breakfast

    Fitness Center

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

    Laundry Facilities

    Kitchenette

This is the first time I have used HOTWIRE. I usually use PRICELINE, but this time I wanted to stay in downtown Milwaukee and avoid the Hyatt where I stayed last time.

Rate on hotel website is $134.

  4. Won 02/22-02/24 and then added 2 extra nights. I had been turned down when I bid $105 for 2/22-2/24. The regular rate is $249.

Before I did this bid I bid up to $130 for 4* and 3* in South Beach, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, and Downtown and was unsuccessful. I also bid a 2.5* in South Beach and Miami Beach up to $130.

I was leery of bidding a 2.5* in Coral Gables because of the possibility of gettng the Miracle Mile Hotel, but they are showing no availability on their website or Expedia for these dates, so I decided to go ahead and risk it.

I am happy with this hotel. We stayed at the Grand Bay Miami located nearby last year and I like the area. That hotel is in a better location on Bayshore Drive, but their rates there are very high this year and I have not seen any recent wins for it. This hotel shows $7 parking on their website.

  5. Bid $106 and received counteroffer of $128.

Added rebid zone and bid $110 and accepted.

Rate on hotel website $279. I was expecting to get Hilton since it's rate is lower at $228, but this is fine. Last year we got the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott for $70, but rates seem to be higher this year and I wanted to get something reserved. My backup was the Best Western in Lantana and I did not really want to stay there.

  6. I am starting to plan a trip to Florida in February. I looked at Hotwire hotels for South Beach for 2/12 - 2/15. A 4 * hotel with the amenities of Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness Center, Laundry comes up as a Best Value for $88. However, when I select it it shows the total to be $264 + 109.73 for fees for a total cost of 373.73. I have never done a Hotwire purchase, but those fees seem quite high. When I select another hotel listed for the same period, a 2* hotel for $100, the fees are only $46. Is this usual for Hotwire? The 4* appears to be the Royal Palm, which I understand to have a $20 resort fee, but as far as I know that is unrelated to the Hotwire fees.

  7. This hotel was OK. My main complaint was that the room was poorly insulated and we heard a lot of noise from adjacent rooms. The room was clean enough and the hotel is located in near the expressway in an area of chain restaurants and other businesses. In other words although it is a 1 star, it is not a scary place.

It is however not easily visible from the expressway, so make sure you know the exit and directions before you go there. We neglected to bring that information with us. The fact that there is currently some road construction may have contributed to it being hard to find. After we drove all the way through town without finding the hotel, we then called the hotel for directions. The hotel clerk, who was a nice enough (very) young woman, had trouble giving us directions.

The continental breakfast buffet was pretty good, better than most. They had waffles, yogurt, toast, bagels, boiled eggs and it was monitored and replenished. We were there on a Friday night/Saturday morning and they were quite busy.

We used it as an overnight stay, arriving late and leaving first thing in the morning. If I was going to stay here again I would make more of an effort to get a room that did not have adjacent occupied rooms, or at least not connecting doors, if that was possible.
